momentary··on Show HN: The King James Bible deserved a better website
You might want to consider making this site accessible. I know it's the trend for AI slop to not be readable but it sure seems like a damn shame to make a website dedicated to the most read book of all time that no one can read.
momentary··on Overcoming the friendship recession
I'm surprised that this article that has so much of an AI smell gets such a positive reception.

I thought HN didn't go in for AI slop? I suspect that this kind of thing has people feeling more alienated than ever, what with even the articles online lacking any level of human connection.

momentary··on I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?
I get that this is a joke, but the logic error is actually in the prompt. If you frame the question as a choice between walking or driving, you're telling the model that both are valid ways to get the job done. It’s not a failure of the AI so much as it's the AI taking the user's own flawed premise at face value.

Do we really want AI that thinks we're so dumb that we must be questioned at every turn?

momentary··on Anthropic's Claude can now read your Gmail
I had Claude take a whack at what my most pressing tasks were based on my emails. After searching through 17 emails, they came back with the following (obfuscated) list:

Based on my search of your emails from today, here are the tasks Michael Smith has specifically assigned to you:

Horizon Project Tasks:

Set up a separate AI platform account for Robert Johnson using his team email (which you have already done) Check styling on the Horizon emails (CMS and platform standard emails) Change the default blue to white and add the logo to emails Run through Lisa's website launch checklist for the Horizon site

TG Design Adjustments:

Product grid images: Make images have a consistent height like VRS (virtualretailsolutions.com/shop/) Other product page adjustments (additional details would be in the email body)

The most pressing tasks appear to be:

Completing the Horizon email styling adjustments Running through the website launch checklist for Horizon Making the TG design adjustments for product grids and pages

---

This captured some of the more pressing tasks, but not all of them. Just thought I'd share a little example of how Claude does with the Gmail integration.

momentary··on Open Collective Official Statement – OCF Dissolution
HackClub.com purports to support Highschool coding clubs and building open source learning tools - I can't claim to know how successful this goal is, but it doesn't seem untoward or overly wasteful to me!

17GB of ram - why such a strange amount?

Is uMatrix not in vogue any more? It's still my go to tool!
momentary··on Show HN: Use an old tablet as an extra monitor
I should really get on board with this. Instead I have GPUs, laptops and tablets just gathering dust because "one day I might need it"! Unfortunately my family motto appears to be buy high sell never.
momentary··on Show HN: Use an old tablet as an extra monitor
Huh, I've had just about the opposite experience. Windows 11 is when I finally stopped using DisplayFusion. What is the problem you're running in to?
momentary··on RWKV RNN: Better than ChatGPT?
I could believe it was spouted as marketing fluff. If Gates said it I'm sure he never believed it!
momentary··on You can't buy a Raspberry Pi right now
For learning purposes, you don't really need that many Raspberry Pis to get started. I recently slapped together a cluster with 3 pi and figure I'll add more overtime as I need/desire them.

I do agree, though, that cluster projects should have a low priority!

momentary··on I still love PHP and JavaScript
I can't attest to how it used to be, but now at least they are in a section labeled "User Contributed Notes". The notes can be voted up or down, so hopefully the dross sinks to the bottom.

I do agree with the sentiment though that these unofficial notes should be taken with a grain of salt. In my experience, they have been more help than hindrance.

momentary··on Tesla fired an employee after he posted driverless tech reviews on YouTube
Jeez, that sounds like a lot of WD-40 use! Do you spray annually or just as needed?
