mokarma··on Over half of American adults can't read at 6th Grade Levels
Wouldn't that force us to redefine what the 6th grade level of learning is? Meaning are grade levels static or dynamic?
mokarma··on Anthropic acquires Bun
Atwood’s Law
mokarma··on Anthropic acquires Bun
Quote from the CEO of Anthropic in March 2025: "I think we'll be there in three to six months where AI is writing 90% of the code and then in 12 months we may be in a world where AI is writing essentially all of the code"
mokarma··on [dead]
Not sure why this wasn't posted on HN yet.
mokarma··on Why we chose LangGraph to build our coding agent
When building complex multi-agent systems where each agent has it's own tools, prompt, persona, etc. I've found LangGraph to be better (and easier) than AWS Bedrock, and OpenAI's Agent framework.
mokarma··on Show HN: Tired of building agents? throw an LLM at this framework
Looks really cool. Probably want to add a .gitignore and get the node_modules folder out of the repo. Also, as far as the claim of being way smaller than other similar frameworks, those other frameworks are doing a lot more. It's a bit of apples to oranges. But yeah lightweight Agent frameworks have a time and place too.
mokarma··on JWT finds an 'extreme' glow coming from 90% of the universe's earliest galaxies
JWT = JSON Web Tokens?
mokarma··on The Amazon Prime Day 2023 AWS Bill
Naive question: What are they using EBS for? It seems unnecessary given all the Databases. Is that just local caching for EC2's?
mokarma··on 66% of renters say homeownership is ‘hopeless’
Challenge accepted. Share your general area / zip code.
mokarma··on Hollywood writers, slamming 'gig economy,' go on strike
> Regulate use of artificial intelligence on MBAcovered projects: AI can’t write or rewrite literary material; can’t be used as source material; and MBA-covered material can’t be used to train AI.

mokarma··on Hollywood writers, slamming 'gig economy,' go on strike
With the advent of ChatGPT, this seems like poor timing. "Hey let's try a show / movie written by ChatGPT and see how it goes".
mokarma··on Why steam rises from San Francisco streets
Yup, we have it in Detroit too. https://www.hourdetroit.com/community/whats-the-source-of-th...
mokarma··on Ask HN: How Does the NY Times Paywall Work?
There's some Javascript you can run in the browser console to read articles normally:

```
    (function readArticles(){
     if(document.querySelector('#gateway-content')){
      document.querySelector('#gateway-content').style.display = "none";
     }
     if(document.querySelector('#app div div')){
      document.querySelector('#app div div').style.overflowY = "scroll";
     }
     if(document.querySelector('#app div div')){
      document.querySelector('#app div div').lastElementChild.style.display = "none";
     }
     if(document.querySelector('.css-mcm29f')){
      document.querySelector('.css-mcm29f').style.overflowY = "scroll";
      document.querySelector('.css-mcm29f').lastElementChild.style.display="none";
     }
     if(document.querySelector('#site-content')){
      document.querySelector('#site-content').style.position = "relative";
     }
    })()
```
mokarma··on Ask HN: Anyone feel like the security field has gone to shit?
Yeah it seems like the current version of InfoSec is closely tied with compliance and audits. Meaning they don't really care about getting hacked as long as we filled out the right form, and checked the right check boxes and the lawyers are happy. I also agree that these days, the average InfoSec Engineer is less technical than the average Software Engineer and it shows. The security tooling is just terrible relative to other areas.
mokarma··on California should force parents to give away their children
Is this satire? I honestly can't tell anymore.
mokarma··on Ask HN: Are most of us developers lying about how much work we do?
The bar for Developer productivity is extremely low. There is a theory that this is due to Computer Science being more Art and less Science and artists need their space to let their creativity shine. This is why a 10x Developer is possible unlike other industries.
mokarma··on Breakdown of data on homeless populations across the U.S.
Betteridge's law of headlines says there isn't.
mokarma··on Are people lying more since the rise of social media and smartphones?
They definitely get busted red-handed more. Today there are cameras everywhere. That can make it seem like people are lying more.
mokarma··on Why Turtl switched from Common Lisp to JavaScript (2019)
Atwood's Law in action.
mokarma··on There is a special place in hell for the YouTube product people: Youtube Kids
Personally I just use Safe Vision (https://safe.vision/) to filter down to specific Channels on my kids Devices. It uses Youtube under the hood, but has a parental control layer on top of it.
mokarma··on The naughty username checking system used by Twitch
This SQL file could be an entire AI-based, ML-driven startup to stop hateful / offensive language. Just need a good name like Klean or, NoH8 or something.
mokarma··on Show HN: PeeYork, Bathroom finder app for NY

mokarma··on Do we need a Scrum Master forever?
One of the few places in tech where using the word "master" is cool. It's not entirely clear why.
mokarma··on The Schindler of Japan, Chihune Sugihara
My grandfather was saved by Sugihara together with the rest of the Mir Yeshiva (Rabbinical College). I am forever grateful to him.
mokarma··on GitHub, fuck your name change
Don't forget "Scrum Master", which seems to be a term everyone is fine with.
mokarma··on Gitlab default branch name changes to main
Ironically, it'll probably be the Scrum Master that ends up creating a Story to update everything to Main.
mokarma··on LinkedIn’s Alternate Universe
Yeah I mostly have a LinkedIn account just to have one. I feel like a professional social network is a bit of an oxymoron. Social networks tend to amplify unprofessional voices. "Hey guys, today I went to work and did my job" is not intriguing content.
mokarma··on 750M genetically modified mosquitoes to be released in Florida
Please, let's not try this for another couple of years. Maybe 2025.
mokarma··on What killed Quayside, Sidewalk Labs’ ambitious smart city in Toronto?
> well reasoned arguments from Privacy experts weren't addressed very well

How does one become a Privacy expert? What qualifications are needed?

mokarma··on Coronavirus pandemic takes hold, we are making decisions without reliable data
Italy seems to be an outlier. They're hit significantly harder then any other country.
