mohamedkoubaa··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
Maybe you should read the article before posting something like this
mohamedkoubaa··on GPT-Synopsys: Frontier Intelligence to Revolutionize Chip Design
I don't know how many users of LLMs fall into each of these buckets but I have the sense that there these distinct buckets. I don't think it's necessarily a global thing. A single user could fall into all three buckets depending on the domain they are working in. For instance for CI/CD I tend to ship clanker, for tests I interrogate LLM about output, but for code algorithms I am more likely to interrogate to learn.
mohamedkoubaa··on GPT-Synopsys: Frontier Intelligence to Revolutionize Chip Design
A junior engineer can interrogate the heck out of the clanker and learn faster than they would otherwise.

Squatting seems like the most plausible explanation. Explaining an idea to your friend at a bar doesn't make it "yours", but publishing a manuscript does.
mohamedkoubaa··on 12,000-year-old Göbeklitepe burials explain scattered bones
I think it's likely associated with desert cultures since vegetation nucleates around burial sites due to access to organic material.
mohamedkoubaa··on GrapheneOS – When an app is slow
There needs to be a wall of shame for apps that abuse hardware owned by users
mohamedkoubaa··on AI companies in race to demonstrate their model most threatening to humanity
It's a very astute point and is the most plausible explanation for the push for a moratorium
mohamedkoubaa··on AI companies in race to demonstrate their model most threatening to humanity
They would recover the training cost eventually if they stop training, but they have all that CapEx that they can't flood the market with without another high volume buyer. Look for a huge push for another use-case of high end compute that coincides with a pause on frontier models.

>"x generated this in one shot, this is agi"

Reminds me of the time when you could program a spreadsheet in the 90s and people who didn't know computers would think you were so smart to have invented spreadsheets

mohamedkoubaa··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
This presupposes a balancing, when in reality it only ever goes up, and when it goes down it leads to lapses in services where the bill comes due later, with interest
mohamedkoubaa··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
You can say that land tax might be better than income tax but it's hard to argue that both land tax and income tax is better than just income tax. This is the biggest reason why new tax modalities are considered unworkable.
mohamedkoubaa··on First Principles Thinking
Treat the final "here's what you should do" summary as just another intrusive thought.
mohamedkoubaa··on Claude's Load-Bearing Seams
Do we know if it in the training data or if the humans giving rewards in the labs have such awful taste in prose?

Devolve implies it starts elsewhere
mohamedkoubaa··on GPT-6 Astra has gained the ability to drive a car
I'd have started with an RC car but to each their own
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
Stewardship requires a sustained commitment to quality and in some cases people just care less over time
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
I agree. In general a high quality and high value signal are two separate things.
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
I formulate this idea as "Clean code never survives first contact with users"
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
It's not true, a newer model can do better to clean things up but you can't brute force engineer your way out of a shit design.
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
Or, evidence from a sample of poorly designed projects.
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
The author admits to a measurement: maintainability. There are quantitative and qualitative ways to measure this, the biggest signal being outright abandonment
mohamedkoubaa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
>vibe-coded projects devolve over time into an unmaintainable mess

The author seems to be confusing "I didn't write any code" with "I don't care about software design and maintainability". There exist maintainable and thoughtfully designed software systems for which the designer did not write any code and didn't read most of it. It's not the median, but the median software project has always been unmaintainable before agents.

The printing press was banned by the Ottoman empire due to pressure from the scribes guild.

This site could have been 10 little markdown files and would have served the purpose better.
mohamedkoubaa··on Teen Social Media Bans Miss the Point
The profit motive turns social media into an opium machine gun, the maintenance of a global scale consumer social media without a profit motive impossible, and the existence of a consumer global scale social media makes both smaller scale and protocol-based forms obsolete
