Oh cool. I’m going to try this with my Conure at home. I hadn’t thought about “BAO” as a test before, we’ve done all sorts of little things in front of the mirror to see if he responds.
We’re using it to build our web app (https://uncook.xyz) and while it’s a slight departure from my team’s NodeJS background it’s been pretty cool to work with
This was refreshing to read. I’m a big believer in getting things done especially when some process or people get in your way. In my experience people usually understand “oh this person is trying to make things better so this arbitrary process should take a backseat here”. Even people only working the clock will work with you if you frame it well.
Lucid product vision is kind of the bar for “good product management”, I agree that slopping on top of a lack of direction is just going to make things worse. The issue with PMs going off on tangents with AI is the lack of engineering know how that they’ll need to adopt to stay competitive.
Any product manager worth their salt should be in a coding interface--the line between Product and Engineering is blurring a lot more now, and to stay competitive PMs will need to reach a little further into the technicalities. Otherwise you risk just being another “idea guy” pushing tickets around, basically customer support on steroids which is getting eaten by Agents. Connecting the ideas to something tangible and translatable that an Agent could not do themselves is the new game.
(I am a PM of 15 years trying to navigate all of this…)
Not trying to be critical, but there are a number of misspellings and grammatical issues and it was actually a breath of fresh air to be reminded while I was reading that a real human being wrote this. I feel a little inspired to turn off spell check for my own writing.
I don’t know that this is something specific to workplaces. I think anywhere you have a hierarchy and incentives you’ll see people perform to those incentives. But, I am not a behavioral psychologist, so maybe there is something special to “corporations”. It could be that corporations have a lot more incentive to perform for.
I wish we could get back to a “mom and pop” software market. Itch.io feels like it’s doing a lot of work for indie software that used to just be everywhere and easy to stumble onto.
You would purchase an AI tax stamp! Just make sure you’re being honest about your token usage. Or maybe we can have AI licenses! Sky’s the limit when you can just make up policy on the internet for free.
This is awesome. I love that people are working on this. I wish for the day I can own a box that boots up, and gives me the 90s-00s internet experience without needing to ask permission from a bunch of middlemen.
I took a plunge into learning about mesh networks, specifically because I love the idea of p2p/decentralized systems of communication. To be honest, I was surprised to find that my expectations for “where we are at” with this type of technology was pretty off-base. For some reason I thought by now it would be straightforward to do a little more than text messaging over a truly public and decentralized off-internet mesh. Maybe I’ve missed some things in my search (still learning!) and someone can correct my understanding.
I came up as a software requirements analyst before the weird transition between business analyst to product owner to product manager to technical product manager. But living in requirements for 15+ years really gave me a leg up on these “let’s go back to requirements!” efforts.
I don’t have the right configuration of equipment to use an app like this, but does anyone know why this needs to be a service-driven app? What piece of functionality requires a server to track your health?
I think maybe part of the argument is that Apple’s closed system was a benevolent dictator-style ecosystem that was actually benevolent. Until it wasn’t.
My favorite short story of all time. Between this and Deep Thought in HHGttG, I couldn’t believe the prescience when the bitter lesson was learned and LLMs and GPUs started eating the world.
We work together pretty well. From a 20,000 foot level maybe it looks like chaos and like a central guiding hand would make everything better. But, two people working together is easier to direct than 100,000 people (or more!). Unpacking this gives us the wonders of the economics and behavioral psychology. I’d say, all things considered, we could be doing a hell of a lot worse on cooperation with each other.
Ah geeze, I’m sorry to hear that. We’ve had some strange issue where our landing page doesn’t show for some people? It’s driven us bananas before, and I hoped it was behind us. For what it’s worth, we’re on Google Play [0] and Apple App Store [1]. I appreciate your interest!
