mobilemidget··on jQuery v4.0 Beta
I personally prefer https://sortablejs.github.io/Sortable/ over datatables.net

Though both do what I typically need them to do, customising datatables.net takes me a bit more time though

mobilemidget··on Ask HN: How can I back up an old vBulletin forum without admin access?
In the spirit of the name of this website, there have been plenty of RCE reports describing how to hack/crack a vBulletin. If the owner is not there, I guess he also doesn't run any software updates?

Though this suggestion might not be acceptable in the eyes of many.

Is that the Macbook I put linux on for you? :)

mobilemidget··on Mod_blog: A Blogging Engine in C
What makes you choose CGI as the language of choice? Just curious.
mobilemidget··on Mozilla's new Firefox Linux package for Ubuntu and Debian derivatives
They write "advanced compiler-based optimizations"; I guess that doesn't fall under open source?
mobilemidget··on Tell HN: Hacker News now supports IPv6
My previous provider, I think largest in The Netherlands, ziggo rolled it out quite okay. Now I moved and switched providers, to much faster 1 Gbit (can go up to 8gbit but I dont know what to do with that yet until I have a 32K tv maybe) symmetric, but no idea when they will plan to roll out IPv6 on this network. I cannot say I really miss it, but have to admit my internet feels a bit incomplete :)

so I wish it was even more popular than you state. :D

mobilemidget··on Ceph: A Journey to 1 TiB/s
Cool benchmark, and interesting, however it would have read a lot better if abbreviations are explained at first usage. Not everybody is familiar with all terminology used in the post. Nonetheless congrats with results.
mobilemidget··on We migrated our PostgreSQL database with 11 seconds downtime
"The PaaS team offered us the ability to migrate databases using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)."

And I'm not surprised if, they got some kickback, discount etc in some way to promote AWS on their blog. Not claiming its so, but I would not be surprised at all. It reads as one big advertisement.

mobilemidget··on Working on Multiple Web Projects with Docker Compose and Traefik
"it allows Traefik to get letsencrypt certificates even for internal services not exposed to the outside world"

But something has to be exposed to get these certs to the internal services?

mobilemidget··on Marijuana addiction: those struggling often face skepticism
Add custody battle, that made me quit instantly after 25 years of daily weed smoking. Took me near 15 weeks to get all THC out of my body. I bought self tests (urine) to check myself in case I needed to pee in a jar for court. Never got to that, but been 'clean' ever since and I don't miss it. I can easily be next to people smoking weed and have zero urge. Few months later I also managed to quit with regular smoking. Leaving those things, a borderline (diagnosed by doctor not my opinion) ex wife and having my daughter 50% of the time, made me a new man. A happy one.
mobilemidget··on Reversing a 2.4GHz Remote Control
He stole the toy perhaps :)

But it was a good idea to give to me to give my girl her first proper RC car. (got her a paw patrol RC car before, but sigh could only go straight or circle left backwards at the same time, and not easy to hack to make it behave like a normal RC car)

mobilemidget··on Ask HN: Are blog comments a thing of the past?
I read blogs, usually blog posts about a specific remedy for a tech issue. The only reason for me to read/skim comments is if the suggested remedy or solution is no longer working and if somebody in the comments might have added their findings that do work. Else I have no reason to read any of the comments.

I believe they scrape all links pasted in Skype conversations too
mobilemidget··on macOS Monterey's new network quality tool is surprisingly good
I still type 'ip a s' on osx machines multiple times a week, even though I know it doesn't exist for many years.

If on wifi one can also simply option click the wifi icon in the menu bar. Maybe some people don't know yet, it was a late discovery for me option click shows more information there.

For quick internet access check I like 'curl ipconfig.sh'

mobilemidget··on Selecting a programming language can be a form of premature optimization
I'm a big fan of the "Make It Work Make It Right Make It Fast"

If one of these steps requires a change of programming language, I'm never too lazy to recode :)

mobilemidget··on Show HN: Long Range E-Bike
Be careful on bikes Jacques :) Let me know in advance if you plan to cycle this way or code some statistics dashboard.

mobilemidget··on I introduced my 5-year-old and 2-year-old to startx and xmonad (2012)
I'm about to do this for my three year old, old laptop BSD or linux on it, and I thought about not putting a desktop on it at first.

What kind of command line/console applications would people here recommend for a child? (native dutch/russian)

mobilemidget··on Rare, ancient Maya canoe found in Yucatan
Oh cool, what kind of planes/aircraft did you fly over them? Been there twice now, Chitchen Itza, and probably will go there again.
mobilemidget··on Fastmail, Runbox, and Posteo under DDoS extortion attack
Yes I have the same suspicion. It is way harder to maintain a certain volume of DDOS, and some people use services to keep them online during a DDOS. Spending your time on a single action, encrypting, and keeping a company hostage without further energy I think is more, what's the word, efficient for those bad actors.

mobilemidget··on You want enabling CSS selectors, not disabling ones
thanks for the site link, did not have that as a entry on the resource list myself :)
mobilemidget··on I nearly lost the Lightroom catalog with of all my photos
"get corrupt on a Synology NAS"

omg reading this made me relive that horror I encountered too, of course with pics of the little one.

Now I have 3 backups (of which 1 is just an export again of all the pictures in raw) in 2 locations, using Lightroom, I don't trust photos anymore, and yes on apple filesystems.

mobilemidget··on Image2Lego: Customized Lego Set Generation from Images
Should work fine for minecraft creations too then I guess :)
mobilemidget··on HTML over DNS: Serving Blog Content over DNS
"100s of requests per second"

dns works fine at those rates or higher, and you'll use caching dns servers of ISPs, scales like no other, geo support etc etc. I think its great idea for public data.

mobilemidget··on Cannabis part of the future says tobacco giant
Lots need to happen and change in regulations and law around the world before it can be seen as a future I reckon.
