mnkmnk··on Ask HN: Best practices for log format?
We developed a common logging module that we include in our micro services to log to json. It also takes in environment variables so we can include the deployment related information to identify and query the logs once they get centralized to splunk.
mnkmnk··on Ask HN: What software do you use to take notes?
Sublime text. I can just open a new document and start typing. I don't need to save the file and the tab collapse keeps the high level notes clean.
mnkmnk··on Ask HN: Any way to measure how much I speak?
How about a vibration sensor attached on your chest below the throat connected to a raspberry pi zero?

mnkmnk··on The State of Vue
With CI for running tests and building docker images, I have seen a lot of places where npm install happens everytime. So don't know why you are getting down voted.
mnkmnk··on Xiaomi’s first laptop is a Macbook Air rival
Will there be heating issues? Such a small form factor with an i5 and dedicated graphics card ought to have thermal throttling issues and with a metal body, become uncomfortable to hold.

mnkmnk··on NetBox – DigitalOcean's IPAM and DCIM tool – open sourced
Interesting article! Thanks for sharing. I fail to see what is their "complement" that benefits by commoditizing netbox. In fact it could be used to create a competitor. Are digitalocean not selling just VPS anymore? I am curious what DO has up their sleeve, because they were really ahead of their time with 5$ VPSs.
mnkmnk··on NetBox – DigitalOcean's IPAM and DCIM tool – open sourced
I have never understood how open sourcing a core component of your business makes sense.

mnkmnk··on Why Aren’t There Simple Programming Languages?
This, I also feel is the gap between academics and real world coding. Students learn all kinds of programming constructs, type systems, garbage collection, memory mapping, data structures and algorithms, yet are extremely ill prepared to write a non trivial real world application.
mnkmnk··on Why aren't PGP and SSH keys popular as a second factor for authentication?

mnkmnk··on Top 6 Getting Things Done Software
Is there an app which can motivate me to use these apps?

I recently started using redmine, set up many projects and tasks and milestones installed the android app. I updated everything meticulously for a few days, then I missed two days, then four, then a week, then a month. Now I just can't get myself to use it.

This was my second attempt at getting my shit in order, but I keep faltering. Is there any hope for me?

mnkmnk··on Emoji and Deep Learning
>IBM uses them for operationalizing business unit synergies

What does this mean?

mnkmnk··on The leaky bucket of Indian food delivery startups
That is definitely not a good reason. Food delivery startups don't just deliver food, they make it easy to order food. They have their own app, you can pay through credit cards and mostly it just provides a better experience ordering food. Even if restaurants hire their in house delivery team, they will still need to get orders from somewhere. I have been ordering from restaurants directly, and it is just not fun giving orders on a call to the restaurant with your friends shouting what they want to order.
