mndgs··on UPI: Anatomy of a Payment Transaction
So? Read the article, and? Some pretty basic payment flows.. Nothing about settlements, payment card messaging flow (you see a simplified logic in the article), nothing about other payment rails.. Come on.
mndgs··on 'Hairdryer used to trick weather sensor' to win Polymarket bet
Beautiful con, tbh. I don't welcome this behavior (borderline criminal), but you have to admit - well played.
mndgs··on Finnish sauna heat exposure induces stronger immune cell than cytokine responses
Not even a wager. Just out of ~100C sauna after 20 mins straight. Pretty normal, and I'm not Finnish. In that area though.
mndgs··on The heavy reality of Venezuela's oil
Lots of empty emotional statements, generalisations with no facts supporting them. Why bring this here? Release your anger somewhere else and really think about the issue before posting rants.

Otherwise, a really nice overview on the Venezuelan oil. Thank you.

EDIT: oh, I see I'm in the minority with such opinion here. Well, that's ok, let the bashing begin..

mndgs··on G Lang – A lightweight interpreter written in D (2.4MB)
It hurts my eyes to see spelling mistakes in error messages. I know English is not your first language, but, dude, in the age of autocorrect and AI, it is sloppy and screams incompetence. Not what you want anybody to see when using your interpreter.

Otherwise, what a cluster*uck of a code this is.. I am amazed and appalled at the same time.

mndgs··on Surely the crash of the US economy has to be soon
Nonsense. If 27% of GDP is suddenly gone, how US economy could be the largest? (rest of the world can substitute US trade between itself)
mndgs··on East Germany balloon escape
+2, very nice movie. Might be very eye-opening for any some about what it was like under USSR umbrella...
mndgs··on Ask HN: How did you learn to code?
Played video games on ZX Spectrum and some Soviet computer at home. Wanted to learn to code games as a teen, took a course in Basic, very shallow. Then in high school some exposure to Turbo Pascal (90s), learned a bit, but wasn't great.

Then really learned Python in 2010s trying to solve a real-life problem - had to scrape an ecom website, used Scrapy. Now it's Go, quite complex projects, about to launch our SaaS startup.. took a while..

mndgs··on My coworker's 36 key Corne open-source keyboard setup
Spot on! If you add car tuning or PC overclocking, you might as well call it a hobby.
mndgs··on Nabokov's guide to foreigners learning Russian
Maybe because Lithuanian has 3 kinds of stresses...
mndgs··on Ireland’s Diarmuid Early wins world Microsoft Excel title
Watch this, where he goes through the questions and explains how he did it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mx_xhiIRpw

I'm pretty good with Excel, my main tool at the job for over 20 years. I understand how he did it, but it's just really humbling...

I still think quality of what you do with Excel (idea) is more important than how you do it (skill).

mndgs··on What if tariffs?
True that
mndgs··on [dead]
Who is pushing this agenda? NY Times, never expected this from you..
mndgs··on How to Make a Living as a Writer
Beautiful text, easy to read, one can immediately feel that author knows what she is doing. Light, but long and sad at the same time. With an aftertaste of hope at the end. Nice work.
mndgs··on Tallest Wooden Wind Turbine
Nonsense, by that logic Lithuania should have been a #2 military power long time ago (having built nukes from a civil nuclear reactor) (it used to operate #2 largest nuclear reactor in the world, now it would be #4).
mndgs··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
It's based on ISO20022 messaging standard. Networking and security is typically custom in each country/standardized payment system.
mndgs··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
You can, just the central bank /regulator of that country needs to want it. Example: Sweden, which now transacts on SEPA, jointly with EUR currency.
mndgs··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
True that, ISO 20022 based.
mndgs··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
Won't happen. Ever. Or concede to money laundering.
mndgs··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
SEPA also works for SEK now, other EU currencies are in pipeline.

Swift is just a messaging standard and a message exchange network (distributed). SEPA is that, plus a settlement system (in a nutshell). That allows for speed and much more (instant payments, request to pay, pay by phone number, credit/debit transfers, etc).

You're bound to deal with currencies once you make any kind of transaction that originates in one currency and settles (finishes) in another.

mndgs··on Brazil's government-run payments system has become dominant
Yes, min transfer 0.01 EUR
mndgs··on Launch HN: Modernbanc (YC W20) – Modern and fast accounting software
Expensive
mndgs··on My Time Working at Stripe
Sorry for a probably unpopular opinion here, and let me generalize a bit: Gen Z all the way... (Saying this makes me feel a bit old, I guess I'm certainly am than the author).

On a serious note, in my book there are hints of perfectionism right from the start of the story (fonts dimming, wait 30 sec to join the meeting..). And too much fragility in personal attidudes. S/he is probably a relatively young idealistic person, early in the career. Such people often don't last long, if they can't change inside and take manager's or corporate shit. One needs at least some "fuck it" attitude to preserve one's dignity. Your performance review does not and cannot define you as a person. Else you're likely to end up disappointed and/or emotionally exhausted. And that's what I see here.

mndgs··on The Elimination Strategy – Why More Makes Your SaaS Worth Less
Totally. Cheap, superficial clickbaity lists generating traffic via HN. But TBH though, it worked, respect.
mndgs··on NIST to forbid requirement of specific passwords character composition
FINALLY. Good God, how annoying those website signups with "a good password must use a, b and c" are... It seems a lot of site devs know shit about what a good password is.
mndgs··on Fiber optic drone control beats any RF jammer
20-25 kms already...
mndgs··on Fiber optic drone control beats any RF jammer
BS. Though a RPG could travel 1km (not sure), I know for sure that an effective RPG range is 300-400 m, after which accuracy degrades substantially.

And even if you try walking up the fiber cables (if you manage to spot them), you will become a target yourself much earlier than you manage to locate the origin of the fiber, i.e. the drone crew.

So, that wouldn't work.

mndgs··on Monetagium – monetary extortion in feudal Europe
"tax the wealth to remove about 25 trillion dollars globally." And what do you think happens once the tax is collected by the government? It is spent. And the money goes back into market, which will earn its returns and will be taxed again. Rarely a government has enough willpower to terminate the money supply collected in the form of taxes...
mndgs··on ICC judges issue arrest warrants against Shoigu and Gerasimov
Just wait. There are 1000x if not x1B ants in the world than bears, ants rule the world in this context. It's just a matter of time until any bear succumbs to ants' rules.

And for the record, Putin is no bear, he's a yet another street coward who can only bully the weaker ones. If ICC means shit and he's such a bear, why doesn't he travel to any country which adheres to ICC rulling? A coward murderer and he knows it, that's why.
