mmariani··on About the security content of macOS Catalina 10.15.5
Run fsck on your disk. I had the same problem, digging into it I found APFS had hopelessly corrupted my disk, its snapshots, and the time machine backups. In the process I not only lost mail and other files, but I had unexpected app crashes and casual kernel panics. Once I found the corrupted files I had to log in into single user mode to remove them as I couldn’t even as root when logged as usual. Don’t forget to delete your APFS snapshots, if you don’t the problem will quietly sneak in again. After that you’re safe to make a new snapshot and a new backup.

Why didn’t Apple just give us ZFS instead of the shitshow APFS is?

Would she do it too if she had to do the shopping on her own once a week? If so, do it or your marriage will suffer. If she can’t reason you have deeper problems than being caught naked by a neighbor.
mmariani··on Toronto is gathering cellphone location data to find people congregating
In this context is easy to understand that one can’t enjoy neither of those rights when dead. In a perfect world everyone would relate to that fact, respect the quarantine for a dozen weeks, and get back to work rebuilding everything as quickly as possible. Some people can’t reason and that’s why we all can’t have nice things.

Spinning is winning. Instead of using high torque shift to easier gears and spin as fast as you can while seating on the saddle. You’re going to get there with fresher legs though a bit hotter in general—it’s a nice cardio—but that shouldn’t be a problem because you’re steps away from your shower.
mmariani··on Facebook Really Is Spying on You, Just Not Through Your Phone's Mic
It’s really too easy to tap the “I’m not driving” button. We have a global cell-phone-use-while-driving epidemic going on that’s taking way too many innocent lives. I wish tech companies would start sharing phone use data while driving. That’s when people will start to care about the lives of others and the rule of law, the moment they see their premiums going up things will get better rather quickly.
mmariani··on Goodyear Hid Evidence of 'The Worst Tire in History' Linked to at Least 9 Deaths
My car runs on 2 bar, a little less than half of your example of 60 psi, completely feasible as a plan B.
mmariani··on Goodyear Hid Evidence of 'The Worst Tire in History' Linked to at Least 9 Deaths
You just gave me a great idea. My car has a smat electric pump that I don’t trust. I’m going to store in the car a compact track pump in case I have to use the patch kit. Thanks for the insight on the lateral thinking.
mmariani··on Goodyear Hid Evidence of 'The Worst Tire in History' Linked to at Least 9 Deaths
Any decent track pump can easily get to an order of magnitude higher. I routinely pump bike tires to 125 psi. Back to the point, tires are the most important piece of kit in regards to driving/riding handling quality, and usually one of the most underestimated. I wish people in general paid more attention to the state and quality of their tires.

mmariani··on What happens if you turn off the traffic lights?
Get a ebike. I live on a street with a 8% climb and that on a ebike is just a stroll. My wife loves it. Most of my cyclist neighbors have one too. I occasionally “steal” her bike, but most of the time I love doing my climbing by myself. Though things may get hairy above 12% and definitely painful above 16%. However, with a ebike even those gradients would be fine.

mmariani··on What it feels like to be in the zone as a programmer
Oh yeah! Cycling fast gets me there too. It's weird, just put your brain in a position of risk and your get pretty quickly to focus zen. I wish I had a a simple formula like this to get in the zone more often when programming.
mmariani··on The Electric-Bike Conundrum
Technically you're correct. However, practically there is an advantage of electric vs mechanical shifting. Usually mechanical derailleurs misbehave a little when used under load. When in turn electric derailleurs shift just fine. That's one reason why all pro sprinters ride di2, eps or etap.
mmariani··on More people riding bikes makes cycling safer for everyone, major new study finds
Everyone that cycles on open roads had at some point to work on that fear. Though a little challenging at first, it's pretty simple.

Hold your line, if you have to deviate from it make sure you use your hands to signal your intention. There's tech to help you with that too. Garmin makes a proximity sensor that you can install on your bike that you let you know when cars are getting close to you; and there's my favorite solution, a Bontrager Flare RT rear light. Finally, you should use your bike to explore alternate/less trafficked routes. Bonus tip sourced from anecdata: I've found out that if you can keep up with the traffic speed most drivers will leave you alone.

Keep cycling and have a nice ride! :)

You should check the tension of your carbon belt. Gates has an app to help you do that. Usually is just a matter of loosening the back weel bolts, adjusting the screws that push on the axel and retightenig the weel. If your frame doesn't have the adjustment screws you should check your bike manual.
