mlnj··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
> it is invalid to argue that there should be no scale.

And to put that into policy gets rid of the scale for everyone. You can see it with abortion restrictions in various states. Instead of the doctor's expertise, the lawyers are the ones to decide.

Then again this is very much on point for the US. There are no experts other than lawyers. /s

mlnj··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
I was demonstrating that throwing money at the shortage does not magically create new talent in a geographical area. It has to be imported.
mlnj··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
>US colleges openly and actively discriminate against US citizens for grad school spots for 2 or 3 decades now.

Isn't this just because foreign students pay more than citizens? Isn't this just capitalism and the free market efficiently allocating resources?

Something about 'having the cake and eating it too'.

mlnj··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
I highly doubt a company can find 20k senior Photolithography experts in rural Nebraska if a company wanted. No matter what money they are paying. They'll have to bring them in.

Of course I am exaggerating, but this is not a 1 dimensional problem.

mlnj··on Multiple commencement speakers booed for AI comments during graduation speeches
Don't forget the boom boom collars to prevent thoughts of arson.
mlnj··on Multiple commencement speakers booed for AI comments during graduation speeches
Especially the folks who are graduating. All they can see is 'Juniors no longer wanted' and 'Seniors also can count their days' everywhere.

Why can't they be as excited as people already invested into Datacenters? /s

mlnj··on Bitwarden scrubs 'Always free' and 'Inclusion' values from its site
Have been a customer for years, but if the core values are going away, so am I. It's not even about the money.
mlnj··on DeepSeek v4
The only instance of false equivalence I see is the mention of lower back pain vs cancer.
mlnj··on Founders Need to Be Ruthless When Chasing Deals
All those things are beyond the demo itself. Vibe-coded demos are just demos. There are stability, security and everything enterprise that still needs to be added to a demo to actually make it functional as a paid offering.

The hard problems still remain.

mlnj··on Microsoft isn't removing Copilot from Windows 11, it's just renaming it
I remember how Skype, an awesome piece of software transformed into Lync, which worked fairly well, slowly transformed into whatever MS wanted to call it year after year, slower and more buggy than the year before.
mlnj··on We moved Railway's frontend off Next.js. Builds went from 10+ mins to under 2
This is one of the most frustrating thing about working with NextJS. There seems to be no way to improve the speed of building the app.
mlnj··on Unsloth Studio
I am unaware lm studio is being used for fine tuning. I believe it only does inference.

Happy to see unsloth making it even easier for people like me to get going with fine tuning. Not that I am unable to I'm just lazy.

Fine tuning with a UI is definitely targeted towards hobbyists. Sadly I'll have to wait for AMD ROCm support.

mlnj··on How I write software with LLMs
Is that not already possible with Markdown spec files and planning mode?
mlnj··on MCP Is Dead; Long Live MCP
You are right.

Although I have been a skeptic of MCPs, it has been an immense help with agents. I do not have an alternative at the moment.

mlnj··on Launch HN: Spine Swarm (YC S23) – AI agents that collaborate on a visual canvas
Elaborate?
mlnj··on Ceno, browse the web without internet access
It seems to be a way to circumvent censorship.
mlnj··on Phi-4-reasoning-vision and the lessons of training a multimodal reasoning model
I absolutely love it.

Am so much more excited about tiny models gaining real intelligence. Just today I have been running Qwen3.5 0.8B model on images and am pleasantly surprised by how good it is compared to even 4B and 8B models from a few months ago.

mlnj··on AI Added 'Basically Zero' to US Economic Growth Last Year, Goldman Sachs Says
Besides, AI has barely started to be productive to Developers. The rest of the workforce are still untouched for the most part. The tools that assist the bulk of knowledge work out there is still in the works.
mlnj··on DOGE Track
And THAT is the biggest issue you have with the whole ordeal?
mlnj··on News publishers limit Internet Archive access due to AI scraping concerns
All the world's data was critical to the success of AI. They stole it and fought the system to pay nothing. Then settled it for peanuts because the original creators are weak to negotiate. It already happened.
mlnj··on News publishers limit Internet Archive access due to AI scraping concerns
Don't forget the onslaught of ads that will distort the actual publications even more going forward.
mlnj··on News publishers limit Internet Archive access due to AI scraping concerns
Unless regulated, there is no incentive for the giants to fund anything.
mlnj··on Ex-GitHub CEO launches a new developer platform for AI agents
Diversify.
mlnj··on Show HN: Kappal – CLI to Run Docker Compose YML on Kubernetes for Local Dev
I love Tilt.

With a single Tilt file combined with a docker compose file, almost all of the infrastructure you need is configured on a local machine. It also supports running kubernetes (most of the docs are around this), but you do not necessarily need to it it.My goto when I have more then 2 docker containers/services I want to keep changing code for. Some teams I work with usually have 20 such containers for local dev.

And yes, you can even nest Tilt files and even write normal python if you want to mix things up.

mlnj··on Microsoft is walking back Windows 11's AI overload
It's already gone. Replaced once with Microsoft 365 and then rapidly and haphazardly by the Copilot name.

Only the domain and SEO artifacts remain.

mlnj··on Microsoft is walking back Windows 11's AI overload
The only mention of the word 'Office' on that page is

'The Microsoft Office app is now Microsoft 365 Copilot'

It is really sad to see MS kill such a behemoth brand for nothing.

mlnj··on ICE and Palantir: US agents using health data to hunt illegal immigrants
The hypocrisy of the conservatives aside, the Democrats also end up doing nothing meaningful to thwart any of it when they are in power. The higher ranks of Democrats are almost as conservative as the Republicans. Palantir is not a post-2024 phenomenon. The data was always collected. They are just being brazen now.
mlnj··on ICE and Palantir: US agents using health data to hunt illegal immigrants
"We've tried nothing and are out of ideas."

Sounds like Americans are in general fine with all of it. Voting patterns hold. General sentiment still remains aligned with the status quo. There does not seem like there are any consequences for the representatives to not represent the people.

mlnj··on Tell HN: Bending Spoons laid off almost everybody at Vimeo yesterday
What I understand from listening to the management from various podcasts, it was a mix of shipping the most minimum impactful features with the leanest product team needed and then jacking up the price every year for the people that can't move away from these products.
mlnj··on The Palantir app helping ICE raids in Minneapolis
How would you know if you were supposed to be here or not without due process.

YOU would not even get a chance to prove your case when they deport you. And I use "you" here deliberately because everyone is at some point at the lowest rung of the ladder in a fascist regime.
