mkw5053··on Show HN: Stage CLI – An easier way of reading your AI generated changes locally
Looks cool and will give it a try.

I've been spending a lot of my energy lately on how to run eng teams where we:

1. Maximize long-term shipping velocity

2. Maximize quality (whatever that means)

3. Maintain minimal complexity

4. Are intentional about which skills we let atrophy, which we keep sharp, and which new ones we have to build

5. Make juniors more capable, not just more productive

These are always in tension.

I've been thinking about instituting some sort of socratic method during planning and review plus spaced interval testing to ensure both the humans and AI coding agents understand and find some max of the factors above.

I honestly kind of forget the exact annoyances because it has been some time. I want to say I had to reauth every time I wanted to SSO with my google account because it doesn't allow/deletes third party cookies.
mkw5053··on LinkedIn scans for 6,278 extensions and encrypts the results into every request
Sure, but Safari may or may not leak Safari extension signals in a similar fashion. I haven't actually investigated.
mkw5053··on LinkedIn scans for 6,278 extensions and encrypts the results into every request
Interesting, so would Safari prevent this? I tried moving to Safari and honestly loved everything except I use my google accounts now for authenticating with to many services and that was a pain compared to chrome.

mkw5053··on Official Clojure Documentary page with Video, Shownotes, and Links
Hey other Mark Watson ( ^_^)/
mkw5053··on Official Clojure Documentary page with Video, Shownotes, and Links
Completely agree, I guess I meant if you're writing an application you're going to be a lot less productive using Idris.
mkw5053··on Official Clojure Documentary page with Video, Shownotes, and Links
I’m no longer in a professional engineering position and have a family and toddler so less time for learning about or playing with program languages. Clojure is what really made me first start thinking about programming languages and down the rabbit hole of scala and Haskell and idris and type theory books. Which are incredible and I can’t recommend more and also not remotely practical.
mkw5053··on Official Clojure Documentary page with Video, Shownotes, and Links
I miss it. I’m now more removed and building software as a means to an end.

I miss it just like I miss the program language and type theory group meetups in SF and working through problems in dependently types languages like Idris and being out of my depth.

mkw5053··on Official Clojure Documentary page with Video, Shownotes, and Links
I don't know if it's still the case, but at old clojure conferences, or meetups, or places of employment, emacs was a prereq and assumed (and the most enjoyable)

Are you watching the same thing I am? What AI slop?
mkw5053··on Official Clojure Documentary page with Video, Shownotes, and Links
In a previous life, I wrote Clojure every day and still look back fondly attending Clojure/Conj and sitting next to Rich Hickey and other Clojure greats at dinner.

My first startup was all Clojure. AWS only had a dozen or two products and I think we must have been the first to compile Clojure to JS and run it on Lambda in production (the only runtime was Node.js 0.10 at the time).

Anyway, I cannot wait to watch this

mkw5053··on Claude Code Routines
What are some of the best use cases you've found? I have some gh actions set up to call claude code, but those have already been possible.

mkw5053··on Waymo Safety Impact
Living in SF (and dad of a toddler), this seems like a no-brainer. I can't wait for fewer human drivers.
mkw5053··on Urea prices
Really interesting. It made me curious to dig in and learn that urea production starts with natural gas. And if you add natural gas to the chart as well urea and natural gas prices generally track together without a lag either way, except natural gas doesn't have the recent uptick seen in urea.

I guess the recent move in urea likely isn’t coming from energy costs, something fertilizer-specific, exports, shipping, or supply?

Or it's just noise \_(ツ)_/

I had codex read my cc chat histories and am back up and running there.

Exactly, especially iMessage. It's fair to think that's not worth it, but for those who choose to use it, it is.
mkw5053··on Anthropic officially bans using subscription auth for third party use

mkw5053··on Anthropic officially bans using subscription auth for third party use
Yeah. I know it’s dumb but it’s also a very expensive machine to run BlueBubbles, because iMessage requires a real Mac signed into an Apple ID, and I want a persistent macOS automation host with native Messages, AppleScript, and direct access to my local dev environment, not just a headless Linux box calling APIs.

Aider [0] wrote a piece about this [1] way back in Oct 2023!

I stumbled upon it in late 2023 when investigating ways to give OpenHands [2] better context dynamically.

mkw5053··on America isn't exceptional – it's the exception
We agree that lived outcomes matter. But if OECD data are valid for health and incarceration, they’re also valid for household income and housing space, where the US performs very well. You can criticize the tradeoffs without denying the gains.
mkw5053··on America isn't exceptional – it's the exception
While I agree that believing the US is "uniquely great, superior to other nations, destined for a special role in the world" is silly, this article feels just as cherry-picked, on the other extreme. The US is an outlier in plenty of negative ways, yes. But it's also an outlier in GDP per capita, venture capital investment, Nobel Prizes, university quality, immigrant demand, medical innovation, and cultural export. Any honest look at the data shows a country that is simultaneously world-leading and world-lagging depending on which metrics you choose. Picking only one side of that ledger isn't analysis.
mkw5053··on xAI joins SpaceX
Musk is moving value out of public hands and into his own. He overpaid $44B for Twitter, then rebranded it as an AI asset by folding X into xAI. He pushed Tesla to invest $2B of shareholder money into xAI despite shareholders voting no. Five days later, SpaceX acquired xAI, effectively turning Tesla’s cash into equity in a private company Musk owns far more of. Musk controlled every step, there was no real arm’s-length process, and he almost certainly knew the outcome in advance. Musk and his private investors get control, inflated valuations, and IPO upside. Tesla shareholders supply the cash, take the risk, and lose leverage.
mkw5053··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2026)
Vidably | Founding Engineers and Designer | San Francisco (SF) | Full-time | Onsite

(I only have one JD posted publicly, but I'm hiring broadly for eng + design): https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4330646312

I'm founder of Vidably and just closed a $1.5M pre-seed last week.

AI agents are about to orchestrate trillions in commerce, but today they shop on thin data: product specs, studio photos, and text reviews. Agents need evidence, not marketing. Today, the most influential product evidence lives on TikTok and Reels, outside the surfaces brands control and agents can use. Vidably puts verified buyer video directly onto e-commerce product pages through a lightweight widget. We capture that video post-purchase and link it to real purchasing outcomes. Every video is SKU-linked and structured so shopping agents can reason over it.

We're already seeing organic pull from creators and expansion from brands.
