Regardless, I can imagine there are some products with 'essential functions' which require the channel that could be DDOSd, no?
My stance here is that it's very broad, and I think it's easy to create an exploitable system from these directives. But unfortunately the problem is real and the mitigations complex. I was buying into this initially because of that, it seems reasonable without much thought on what the exact solutions look like, which I think makes it more dangerous.
If other engineering fields have seen this process, and the involved regulatory bodies have stayed independent of large corporate interests, I guess we should have a good shot. But with my lack of knowledge on that topic, I hold some trepidation for the future of smaller software shops and individual developers.

For the record, I agree with you.
I wonder how powerless software people really are in this context, how much effective oversight others have over us in these matters, where there's sometimes a significant human cost. Just a thought.
Im also a bit lost regarding its value
I think there are good and bad ways to express this, and I think the feeling itself isnt intuitive.
It'll be crazy when it replaces us but for the moment I've been using it to learn and explore (C, some linux tools, game dev in lisp) and the results are surprising - and we're looking at the newest tech demo, as you say what will it look like in a few years? Even just give some app devs some years with it and I'm excited to see the results
The function can be simple math, and the factors psychologically/emotionally difficult to deal with. Recognizing that is not lessening the struggle, from where I'm standing
It's unclear which clause is meant to be negative or positive here. If we're close to strong AI, systems which ask clarifying questions would be close as well, no?
Though, whatever approach you have in discovery, or ranking posts, you're having an impact on your users, and promote a certain dynamic, no? I imagine their next approach won't be the equivalent of letting go of the steering wheel, just maybe not mindlessly chasing the same metrics as they are currently.
Maybe that's a little too social psych to call tech/engineering, but I imagine the data science that would support that would be quite exciting.
