I've been sitting here in front of my keyboard for a while thinking of a nice way to say it, but I just can't come up with anything. So I'll just state the plain and obvious seen from a European (Danish) perspective:

America is moving fast towards some sort of fascism, and noone seems to be doing anything about it. So if you are American this is the time for you to rise up and show the rest of the world that there is another America. If you don't noone else will, and things will only get worse.

I'll leave you with a few quotes to get you started on your journey back towards a functional democracy:

"A little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical" - Thomas Jefferson

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing—after they've tried everything else" - Winston Churchill

Elizabeth Willing Powel: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" to Which Benjamin Franklin replied: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

Godspeed. I wish you the very best as a country.

my guess would be that it's because you have to sign up to read the article.
mixmax··on Belenios: Verifiable online voting system
since you have to be alone in the voting booth and your vote is anonymous it can't be bought.

Only a flashy page with absolutely no explanation of how or what they do, how effective it is, what it costs, whether they have an actual product etc. etc.

What I see is a webpage that could be made by anyone in a few hours.

Nanotechnology was actually envisioned by Richard Feynmann in his famed 1959 lecture "there's plenty of room at the bottom".

I don't presume anyone would call out Feynmann for not knowing his physics. He even won a nobel prize for it.

mixmax··on A U.S. submarine struck an underwater mountain last month, the Navy says
No. According to international maritime law ships propelled by engines give way to ships under sail. There are no specific rules for sizes, so theoretically if a triple E class Maersk containership catches up to your dinghy powered by a 5 hp outboard it has to give way (because it approaches from behind).

mixmax··on Suez canal blocked by a massive ship
All ships of this size have a number of large ballast tanks that they use to pump seawater in and out to compensate for placement of cargo.

My guess would be that they've emptied the ballast tanks in the end that has run aground and filled them in the other end to rise the keel.

mixmax··on Arecibo telescope, on the brink of collapse, will be dismantled
Not really - steel boats easily last 100 years. A friend of mine lives in one from around 1940 and the steel is in fine shape. As long as it's properly maintained there's no problem.

mixmax··on Denmarks shuts down all schools, daycare facilities, universities, highschools
yes, the specifics aren't out yet but a package is being put together right now by the government. We don't know yet how much, but the numbers are in the billions.

The government is aware that this is a dificult situation financially for a lot of companies and are working to resolve it. A lot of it will be through delayed payment of taxes and VAT to keep cashflow.

Also, all public sector employees who do not perform critical functions will be sent home on paid leave, and all private companies are recommended to do the same.

On top of this all public gatherings of more than 100 people is discouraged, and it is alsp encouraged for all bars and nightclubs to keep closed for now. These are expected to be signed into law within the week.

mixmax··on Ask HN: What is your customer acquisition cost?

mixmax··on 24-Hour Solar Energy: Molten Salt Makes It Possible
In the daytime - probably more.

In the nighttime - zero.

that is one of the primary points of the system; You can generate molten salt when the sun is out, and genereate the electricity via a steam turbine whenever you want.

This gives you the possibility to use this technology as a buffer.

mixmax··on Match.com Used Fake Ads to Swindle Users, F.T.C. Says
* I don't think this can be 'disrupted' either *

Tinder disrupted the online dating scene by introducing the feature that you can only write someone after you've liked their profile, AND they've liked yours.

That makes a huge difference, and solves the spam problem.

mixmax··on Ask HN: Is it practical to create a software-controlled model rocket?
Copenhagen Suborbitals do thrust vectoring, and if I remember correctly the 4 jetvanes are controlled by an arduino .

The software is written by one guy in his freetime. Pretty amazing feat, considering how difficult it is, and that he has no way of testing it before the actual launch. It worked flawlessly the first time.

Here's a video of the Nexø 1 launch that uses the system to control the rocket on its ascent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iTg55Ktkn4

This video shows some technical data streamed live from the rocket that gives a good overview of what the jetvanes are doing. Notice the graphic in the lower left corner; The H in the middle is the floating launch platform (12x14 meters) and the moving red dot is the position of the rocket in the X-Y plane. On the whole trip it never moves more than a few meters from the center. Really impressive stuff...

I know it's not exactly what you're asking, but it's close, so I thought it might have some value.

mixmax··on Very Good Security
your comment reminds me of the commentary on Drew Houston's announcement of a product called dropbox (you might have heard of it...) here on HN 10 years ago. (1)

"This is nothing new", "I could build this myself", "you have to install something, nobody does that", etc. etc.

The key to a successful company is not being first, not (only) having a great technical solution, and not having tech noone else does.

The key is an umbrella of technology, business sense, marketing ability, salesmanship and much more. Andreeses/Horowwitz probably see a whole umbrella, and not only the tech.

mixmax··on Online voting in Finland: Conclusions and recommendations (2017) [pdf]
But that's not how vote counting works.

Typically there's a member of each party represented in teh election present for the counting, and often they're open to observers from the outside.

This means that you'd have to collude with your political enemies to steal their votes....
