mitigating··on Wind is main source of UK electricity for first time
The parent said "For MANY MANY years after the scientific evidence was completely undeniable". Maybe he's saying that both sides aren't equally valid and taking their opinions as soon is a waste of resources.
mitigating··on Why Galesburg has no money
"The Democrats claim for just the cost of Pizza each month we'll save our roads but we know what's really going on (pause) (dramatic music) and this is just the beginning.

Next it will be a Chinese takeout meal to help a library (show red Chinese flag to increase fear slightly), then the cost of a new refrigerator to pay teachers more (stock footage of a liberal looking nerdy professor), when will it end?

The tax and spend Democrats have an agenda and all they are looking for is an opening. (stock footage of snake slithering into nursery during the night)

We have to be vigilant to protect our families future (stock footage of 60-70 year old man, slightly overweight, wearing a red plaid shirt, jeans, and standing in front of an American flag) vote no on proposition 205 and say no to big government

(paid for by the committee of republicans and their rich supporters who need to convince poor people to vote for them)

mitigating··on Why Galesburg has no money
Can you really drive on those at high speeds, is it dangerous? There's a few short blocks in NYC that are still cobblestone and even at 30mph it sucks.
mitigating··on Why Galesburg has no money
This might be ideal for side roads leading to a few houses but if it's major parts of a town aren't you just move the cost of roads somewhere else?

i.e. "I hope you can afford a truck, SUV, or constant repairs to your suspensions/tires"

mitigating··on Why Galesburg has no money
Imagine you are trying to get businesses to invest in your town, build a factory, whatever. Much of that is about image, right? If you only have gravel roads it gives off the impression that you are failing/backwards.
mitigating··on Why Galesburg has no money
People will fight against any tax raises regardless of the amount.
mitigating··on The absurdity of renting a car will no longer be tolerated
They probably didn't rent online
mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
A lie is intentional. I'm not saying this is the case here because I haven't checked but if they believed that masks weren't effective then later changed their view because of new information or whatever that's not lying.
mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
So where do you get your information? If newspapers can/will lie isn't that also possible with your source now?

Every newspaper is going to "lie" once in a while, there are independent people who write articles. What's important is reputation. The New York Times has been around since 1851. How many truthful articles have they written vs how many were misinformation or biased?

Since the longer a news source exists the more likely it would have lied you will only trust recent news sources? Like if I made a news website then published some random article and sent it to you, I've never lied before but I have 0 reputation are you going to believe me?

That seems like an easy thing to exploit if I was evil I could just keep creating random news websites and you'll trust them. If one is ever caught lying I'll just shut it down and make a new one. However how many "lies" will you believe until I'm caught.

mitigating··on My Bose QC-35 II headphones burst into flames and left me with chemical burns
There was a period of months where cell phone fires on planes was all over the news. There's also a massive recall of the Chevy Bolt recently.
mitigating··on My Bose QC-35 II headphones burst into flames and left me with chemical burns
Everyone is aware of the risks, there were a bunch of stories about airplane cell phone fires a few years ago.

What are suggesting people do? Headphones only function while on your head.

mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
No, "Ninety-five percent of Americans identified misinformation as a problem when they’re trying to access important information."

"According to the poll, 79% of Republicans and 73% of Democrats said social media companies have a great deal or quite a bit of responsibility for misinformation."

Talk about "fact checking" you just make a statement about what people think and provided no evidence to back it up. That's the main problem here. Also "old media"?

mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
What's plenty? The number matters because it may be insignificant.
mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
I want to second this. Because of how badly the right wants the vaccine to be dangerous/fake/whatever I'm so sensitive to anything negative that I basically brush off articles like this. In my mind I just lump it in with people saying the vaccine will make you impotent.

Probably the wrong way to think about things but that's how my mind works.

mitigating··on San Francisco Mayor Declares State of Emergency to Fight City’s ‘Nasty Streets’
They didn't decriminalize everything nor did they expect crime to increase. It's not "breaking news" either it's just something that happened.
mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
How would it be possible for a system like that to be accurate all the time?
mitigating··on Open letter from the BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
". You cannot trust mainstream newspapers. " Which newspapers can you trust?
mitigating··on Pelosi defends stock trading by lawmakers. ‘We are a free-market economy’
If I have a choice between someone who used insider trading to make money and someone who lied about election fraud, a direct attack on democracy, I choose the least evil (or best of) the two people. I wish there was a third party system.
mitigating··on India defuses its population bomb: fertility falls to two children per woman
What about vasectomies? They seem to be widely known
mitigating··on Pelosi defends stock trading by lawmakers. ‘We are a free-market economy’
If that's the case then I would just tell my friend insider information that helps him then wait for him to tell me info as well.
mitigating··on Pelosi defends stock trading by lawmakers. ‘We are a free-market economy’
Just her? Not every other lawmaker?
mitigating··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
"The omicron variant is cause for concern — but not panic" - Biden

"Most Omicron cases in US have been mild but most were vaccinated" from CDC reported on by CNN and MSNBC

https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/10/health/omicron-cases-us-cdc/i...

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/cdc-report-omicro...

There may be more but that was a quick Google search. You said "politicians and news hosts decided to completely ignore her description about it." but that's incorrect

mitigating··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
Since zzzeek is an online identity, how much social prestige is he getting? Does he direct other people to posts that he wears a mask?

Maybe on Facebook where people often use their real name I could see that as a possible motive but here?

Why is it so hard to think that people who disagree with you about masks are wearing them because they want to be safe? I wonder if the divide and anger is because each side believes the other is taking action to make a point and nothing else.

mitigating··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
How does wearing a mask hurt the economy?
mitigating··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
" It's pretty obvious that other masks don't work at all"

So a N95 mask works and covering your mouth with a bandana has no effect at all? Not even 10%?

mitigating··on Rising groundwater caused by climate change could devastate coastal communities
Capitalism and the free market have already been in use and the single cause of the all environmental problems.
mitigating··on Americans overestimate social mobility in their country
Now why would you mention Maine? I guess then I would say Arkansas has the worst divorce rate (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/states-with... 2020). I assume that's the whole thing we're doing here?, blue state, red state?

I responded to your original comment because you said "and in my area the working class is very Catholic, black, or both. YMMV, not valid in California." which you say is a joke. What's the joke? Now I don't want to accuse you of contributing to this because I have no way of knowing where your beliefs about CA came from by (I'm going to go off on a tangent here) but what I've seen when it comes to California is that people now use it as a negative example for almost every comparison, often without evidence. It's done so much that there's now there's a negative connotation to the state itself that certainly isn't valid in all cases. It's so insidious how a belief / stereotype can just appear out of no where if it's just causally spread out.

mitigating··on Facts don’t change our minds (2018)
from https://sure.nlb.gov.sg/tng/surevivors-activity5/

"Facts will also be unbiased. They do not support only one perspective and present the information in an objective manner"

Of your examples only "Processor is the best at these benchmark" is a fact.

You said "does it matter that the benchmark favors it" and I don't think that matters. You aren't saying "This processor is the best processor" then using the benchmark as evidence, you are saying the processor is the best at the particular benchmark which is true even if the benchmark is bias, manipulated, or whatever.
