mitchellhislop··on Namecheap to Donate $1 to EFF for Every Domain Transfer on December 29th
Check out domize.com - great interface, tells you quickly whats available. You can set it to use namecheap as your default registrar, so clicking on one takes you right there. Works really well, but only for searching.
mitchellhislop··on 9 New API Consoles: Stuff Geeks Love for Your Holiday Hacking
Really excited for the FitBit console - I just got one, and hacking my health this winter should be a blast.
mitchellhislop··on Here is Godaddy’s statement in support of SOPA
Namecheap currently has a deal running just for this: http://twitter.com/#!/Namecheap/status/149919610253213697
mitchellhislop··on GoDaddy supports SOPA, redditor proposes "Move your Domain Day"
...except that would be illegal to do under SOPA
mitchellhislop··on SOPA/PIPA Update
I disagree. While the language may seem inflammatory and silly, it is exactly correct - they are relying on tactics that have the express aim of getting this passed as fast as they can. That's ramming. You don't ignore large swaths of the American public, as well as all the companies and industry leaders, to not "ram" it through. You don't use legislative tricks to slowly pass something.

I agree with regard to "ramming socialism", but in this case, it's spot on.

mitchellhislop··on Don't Be A Free User
Not to nit-pick, but Facebook is not shutting anything down. They just hired the team, but did not acquire the users, IP, or really anything from Gowalla. Gowalla is shuttering Gowalla and joining Facebook. The fact that the founders are shuttering it and cashing out still proves your point, and I generally agree with it.

[the citation on this is an AllThingsD post - I just dont have it in front of me anymore]

mitchellhislop··on Show HN: Entire concerts algorithmically "reconstructed" from YouTube videos
This is one of the coolest things I have seen. While there are some little bits of feedback, I can admit that I spent the last 30 minutes watchings concerts, amazed at how great this felt.

MPAA: More of this, less of SOPA. If you give us great ways to get content, we will pay for it.

mitchellhislop··on Show HN: Use Dojo to learn, build, and deploy web apps
You should take another look at the link - its all about ROR and Sinatra, not Dojo Toolkit.
mitchellhislop··on GitHub open sources Hubot (chat bot)
Its really a testament to GitHub how many of us started a project like this when we kept hearing about the greatness of Hubot. I am really pumped to see what the community comes up with as far as scripts go. Pumped to see at least the start of IRC support - I figured it was Campfire only, and would have to hack it myself to make it do IRC
mitchellhislop··on The iPad’s dominance of tablet usage, even 1.5 years later, is astounding
I have to ask - what is your issue? You are all over this thread, bashing Apple and talking about the G10.1 like it is the best thing since sliced bread. However, you have not given any evidence of this anywhere. You are arguing against respected names (both the OP to your comments and the poster) who have experience and data backing them up.For instance, if I went up to someone on the street, and told them that a tech journalist and analyst says the iPad is amazing, and hold 97% of the web browsing share, and then showed them your story, who would they believe?

Please, back up your posts. Your anecdotes do not really hold water against even the weakest of data. For instance, I am tech savvy, have spent time in management, and love my iPad, as do TONS of people I know. However, most of my friends who have used Android tablets hate them - especially if they have spent time with an iPad. I did not buy my iPad for prestige - I bought it because it is the best tablet on the market, bar none. Bashing Apple and having no proof is not something that goes over well on HN (as far as I can see)

mitchellhislop··on Twitter acquires Bagcheck
I see this fairly often. Why not make an account solely for auth/signup on these sites. Most of the time people who say this talk about how they don't have the time, don't want to be on social media, concerns about privacy, etc. If you have an account just for logging in to FB Connect, it seems like the problems are alleviated.
mitchellhislop··on Facebook’s Secret iPad App Exposed [Pictures]
I am really hoping that this was an oversight from their new redesign, and not an intentional thing from either them or their AOL overlords.
mitchellhislop··on Google+ for iOS is out
I am on iOS 5b2, and both the stream and the profile cause the app to die.
mitchellhislop··on Thunderbolt
The mini USB end on my Droid cable has a bit of shiny foil on the side that goes up. I can plug it in while in the dark. Then, I usually have to turn the phone on to plug in the actual USB side.
mitchellhislop··on Motorola XOOM priced at $800
This.

The main reason that the XOOM, at least at launch, will not snag the top spot is that people will look at it, and then see the more known, cheaper, and contract-less iPad.

Keep in mind, many people dont need 1gHz and 32 GB. I nearly got the 16gb myself, and only went with the 32 because I see myself flying more this year.

mitchellhislop··on Motorola XOOM priced at $800
Although it may still win on the barometer.

I bet someone at Apple is trying to figure out 1) How to include one 2) How to leverage one

[yes, in that order]

mitchellhislop··on Motorola XOOM priced at $800
From the way it was described to me at CES, it would be sold as an "on-contract device". That may have changed, but FWIW
mitchellhislop··on Motorola XOOM priced at $800
I know that this wasn't your exact point, but apple does their own CPU's, IIRC. The A4 chips are the ARM arch. and are done in-house.
mitchellhislop··on Android Market Web Store just Launched
I managed to get to the sign-in screen (click to install an app), but other than than, a bad request on the cookie check
mitchellhislop··on Ask HN: What is your workflow for saving bookmarks?
I also am a huge pinboard fan, but not for things that I use daily. I use XMarks for all my main things, and pinboard to store things that I rarely use, or if I am going to need a list- for instance, one of my physics professors wanted a list of web sources to save him some time (60 term papers). I used pinboard to store them all, and just had to give him a link at that point.
mitchellhislop··on Ask HN: Best tool for saving web passwords?
Lastpass. It has the ability to do secure notes in the browsers, so no more fumbling for my wallet when I need to order something. It works for all browsers, including mobile, and it is easy to back up.

Also, the just bought XMarks, and will be rolling that in. I see it becoming something of an information storing and syncing suite.

mitchellhislop··on This is experimental. However, it could start a revolution in information access
I was about to turn 3. I am sure that I was geeky, and trying to program my high-chair, but never the less, still just learning the world.

I do wish that I would have been more in the 10-11 year old range. So much excellent stuff happened that year - just a few months after that, the Minnesota Twins won the series.

mitchellhislop··on What it's like to be the SO of a start-up founder.
I think that the really interesting piece of this article was how often the SO is talking about a "we". This is the really important part of it all - if its not a we, it does not have a very good chance.
mitchellhislop··on Is it hard to become an Android developer?
Nexus One- It was designed as a hacker phone and a developer phone. I love my Droid, but for developing, the N1 takes the cake.
mitchellhislop··on The Rise of the 'Edupunk'
As a student at a university, I totally agree. i hear more and more students complaining about the education, and more people (such as myself) starting to look elseware. A group of us have formed a "class" around some of the open courseware so that we are still in the class-like atmosphere. we want to learn. the university just refuses to teach us what we want and how we want to learn it.
mitchellhislop··on Ask HN: What charts javascript library to use?
Is that lib. available? I was nearly going to write one, but I would rather not start from scratch.
mitchellhislop··on Ask HN: How do you secure yourself on public WiFi?
I have a marcopolo setting on my mac that, if none of my usual networks are found, fires up an ssh tunnel to a vps I have just for that, and turns on my socks proxy.

This takes me remembering to do it out of the equation

mitchellhislop··on HP Slate Officially Launches for $799
Have you looked at the Pogo Sketch?
mitchellhislop··on Tim Armstrong: We Got TechCrunch
That number just so happens to be around what Calacanis' Weblogs got when he sold ($25M)
mitchellhislop··on The Way I Work: TechCrunch's Michael Arrington
As we discovered from Matts piece, the subject does not have very much control over the final article - they talk with inc, then an article happens.

So, while I bet that was a dish on Mike, its a shot at Inc.
