misterm··on Xcode now costs US$ 4.99
I switched from windows to linux as my main OS a little while back. Currently, I run only linux, but I have previously run a dual boot setup with windows 7. That was just a speedbump.

Now, if I want to update anything I type the following in the command line:

sudo apt-get udpdate sudo apt-get upgrade

... And that is all. Unless you meant some other kind of pain and suffering?

misterm··on Why I do my resume in LaTeX
So I'm on Linux - specifically Debian. Where do I start with LaTeX? Do I have to use a specially created editor such as Lyx?
misterm··on Ask HN: What non CompSci courses to take in college?
I disagree with your opinion of the liberal arts, but I will certainly agree that getting practice writing unit tests for your code on homework assignments will be a boon in the long run.
misterm··on Ask HN: What are the most interesting mailing lists?
The book Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! sounds like it would be a great read for you.

As far as mailing lists go, I also would be interested in this.

misterm··on Why You Can't Hire Great Perl Programmers
OO in perl is a little bit weird if you aren't used to it.
misterm··on Why Chinese Mothers are Not Superior (from a female Chinese engineer)
That's almost as bad as telling a depressed person that they are overreacting and to just "cheer up". Incredibly stupid.
misterm··on PayPal: "State Department Said It Was Illegal"
I still don't have access. I emailed someone, got no response, so I gave up on it.
misterm··on Starting Forth - After yesterday's Prolog post, another awesome language
Is anyone still using this in a production environment? I don't think I've ever seen a language like this one before.
misterm··on WikiLeaks Archive — Cables Uncloak U.S. Diplomacy
What is really the saddest thing, is that wikileaks is absolutely the only oversight/resistance that we have towards abusive American foreign policy, or abusive policy in general around the globe.

The average citizen has absolutely no say in anything.

misterm··on WikiLeaks Archive — Cables Uncloak U.S. Diplomacy
If you think the United States "try to act ultimately for good and that there be minimal self-enrichment", then I am just going to have to frown.

American foreign policy has a very rich history of being very abusive to other countries when their agenda is at odds with ours. The irony of us going after Saddam Hussein recently was thick enough to cut with a knife, after all, we did in fact forcefully put him into power.

I welcome the release of the diplomatic wires personally, because right now all we get is a facade of fake transparency. We only know what they want us to know after all.

misterm··on Coding Horror: Your Internet Driver's License
Wow, something from coding horror where he isn't trying to sell us something?
misterm··on Dancer 1.2000, finally out
Dancer is very easy to get started with, and very simple to deploy. If you have a small project with using perl in mind, it might be worth checking out. The documentation is okay, but getting better surely. If you have any quick questions about Dancer, I'd recommend checking out the project's IRC channel.
misterm··on Dancer 1.2000, finally out
Ignorance is bliss.
misterm··on Which programming language do you want to learn next?
I'm going back to C. I've always wanted to learn it so I could contribute to the FOSS that I use everyday. It's a great language.
misterm··on Ask HN: Best emacs / git integration?
Admittedly, there seem to be better solutions out there, but I suppress the "start" page in my .emacs file and start with an empty scratch buffer, or a shell prompt instead. I can just switch the buffer to use the prompt.
misterm··on Google Sues The US Government For Only Considering Microsoft Solutions
This is a frivolous lawsuit. There is no reason anyone would sue a private company for not using their software.
misterm··on Things Paul Graham is wrong about
I think Paul is wrong about further stratifying the Lisp community.
misterm··on Google Admits Streetview Cars Collected "Entire Emails, URLs and Passwords"
Why were they collecting this information in the first place? I don't understand how they could just accidentally grab passwords.
misterm··on Ask HN: Best emacs / git integration?
What about running a command prompt from within emacs? I spawn one in my .emacs file with: (shell).
misterm··on Announcing Backbone.js: Models, Collections and Views in 2.4kb
I would like to try to make one just to experiment a little bit; I've never really made a javascript driven website before.
misterm··on Announcing Backbone.js: Models, Collections and Views in 2.4kb
Yes it does. Thank you for the explanation.

For anyone unclear about REST, try this: http://tomayko.com/writings/rest-to-my-wife

misterm··on Announcing Backbone.js: Models, Collections and Views in 2.4kb
Sorry, I'm a little late to the party with respect to javascript. Could someone please explain to me what this means in english?

Backbone supplies structure to JavaScript-heavy applications by providing models with key-value binding and custom events, collections with a rich API of enumerable functions, views with declarative event handling, and connects it all to your existing application over a RESTful JSON interface.

misterm··on Ask HN: Best Developer Linux Laptop?
check out http://www.linuxcertified.com/, I got a decent laptop from there for pretty cheap. I am very happy with it. They come preloaded with your choice of linux distro, including the ubuntu option.
misterm··on Tell HN: booking.com is looking for 40+ Perl programmers (in Amsterdam)
Perl is still very much alive and well.
misterm··on Ask HN: How do you prevent slouching at your desk?
I could believe this. I feel like most of my discomfort just comes from sitting in the same position over a certain stretch of time, maybe an hour or two.
misterm··on Ask HN: How do you prevent slouching at your desk?
I feel like I would absolutely hate standing for any extended period of time. Doesn't this tire you out?
misterm··on Ask HN: How do you prevent slouching at your desk?
Even when I'm wearing glasses, which admittedly, is mostly when I'm on the computer, I always find myself slouching forward, or really tensing up my shoulders. I should probably just strap myself to my chair.
misterm··on Malcolm Gladwell Gets It Wrong – Again
The article was also a pretty weak criticism.
misterm··on Incredibly Depressing Mega Millions Lottery Simulator
Or, why the best numbers to choose are just 1,2,3,4,5. (Or really, 33,34,35,36,37 (so you don't have to split the money with people choosing dates).
misterm··on Ask HN: How many of you continue reading a blog post after a popup ad?
When I see a pop up on an article, I generally close immediately. It is pretty clear that they are simply trying to monetize my visit, and whatever content is there is just more bait for that. I will put up with banner ads to some extent, but as a general rule if there are more ads than I feel like there need to be, or if the content of the article is broken into different 'parts', I'll just close on general principle.
