Irodov by any chance?
I am looking exactly for adventure. I was in a consulting company where I was solving such problems. Now I am in a large product company where the bureaucracy is becoming unbearable. It is also more about where you are presently to get opportunities. I am in a country where the scope is limited.
What kind of expectations did these companies have when they interviewed you? Did they expect you to have experience in the domain or samples of previous work etc?
Do you think starting a company working on compilers, operating systems etc will even work without huge resources and connections?
I am into embedded domain because of being so close the metal guys and there were so many greats in the electronics domain too.
I still remember the days of early linux trying to boot Gentoo on a iMac G3 and going nuts seeing the final bootup. Building computers by myself. Reading war stories and flame wars on slashdot.
All these were in the golden years of the 90's.
Currently I am finding no inspiration with work as there is nothing revolutionary coming out. Corp jobs are a complete mess. The systems suck with uninspiring team members. No experimentation whatsoever.
I too am in the same place as you just 4 years older. I used to do interesting personal projects before but it has completely reduced because professional life really screws you over and reduces you to an empty shell. Now all I do is grind leetcode so that I can retire in some good engineering driven company.
I once had the pleasure of interviewing a German consultant who was into Android programming and he was like 48 or 50 years old. The interview was like listening to stories of his programming days with various hardware(Commodore etc) and it was fascinating that too with his precise German English accent.
Hope we both will do the same as what the OP did.
Resources would be Computer and CPU Architecture books.
> The end project is a low cost combination signal generator / oscilloscope for aligning antique radios that I eventually want to sell.
What do you mean by aligning antique radio? Could you please explain a little bit on this?
Are you using lattice tools to build or open source tools?
Also is it similar to Red Pitaya board?
Do you create complex scenes or demos to test your engines to the limit? Don't you actually have to create a game to test your engine? For this do you port an existing open source game to your engine?
I have selected MSP430 considering it has just 27 instructions and I love the architecture.
Dude, I worked especially hard for 13 years and got screwed badly. You are lucky that you got that knowledge in 5 years that hard work does not equate to anything and did not waste a lot of time.
Most of the people who graduated with me found loopholes in the system and are more successful exploiting it. Very few people took hard work route and even less became successful. (Note: I am not from the US)
Lol. This is what I found extremely shocking and is the first thing that I noticed. I don't think anyone serious about embedded design would touch it. They are trying to ignore decades of experience in real time systems and build some hacky stuff and make it open source.
These are all well understood by RTOS firmware and Linux driver people. The author, if he has not understood the problem or what is happening should at least use the mailing lists, read on documentation etc to understand how things work rather than write a blog post blaming the kernel people assuming they have not thought enough while designing.
Of course it is. My life is one example. Working in a third world country I was working like crazy and I had many of my customers in Europe and US F100 companies say that I am the hardest worker and I am way better than their employees. When they came to know how much I was paid they were in complete shock. My company too used to ignore the appreciations because if they do then they would have to pay me more! I worked in the company for 12 years. Moved to another smaller company and the cycle repeats there too and have moved out after 1.8 years in it.
It is a lottery alright. That is why you had gold rush and mass migration in search of better life. Lower migration barriers and majority in poverty motivated them. It is difficult to make this decision now as there is a feeling of OK pay and a bigger migration barrier.
Isn't it undergoing a saturation of sorts as of now? Correct me if I am wrong but the general Indian consumer purchasing power/quality is led by employment in IT sector. What happens if there is a severe downturn in it or there is significant competition from other countries?
> Someone is going to build it.
Definitely but if they see profits and positive cash flow in it which I don't think companies like OYO are looking at.
> You can always ask the established chains in the west and they will tell you how long they think it will take.
This is because there is something called standards and inspection in the US. This is absent in India. One just has to look at the shoddy houses and apartments being constructed by some reputed builders.
> But Reliance Jio did it anyway.
With the full support from the Government I think it would be possible. Also is Jio making a profit? ( https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/telecom/teleco... )
Also would Jio be profitable once they achieve their targets?
What were you applying for? A software position? If yes I am curious as to what programming questions did he ask.
