miley_cyrus··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
No that is a huge failure. That is perhaps the biggest failure of Obamacare.

That means I, as someone with healthy lifestyle habits, has to pay largely the same premium as someone who smokes, is obese, and doesn't exercise. And sure enough, life expectancy in the US immediately stalled after the law's implementation: https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/usa/uni.... Exactly what economics would predict would happen.

miley_cyrus··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
Way too many examples to list all of them, but here is the easiest: Mamdani used the phrase "seizing the means of production" during a live streamed conference of the Young Democratic Socialists of America in February 2021.

That's outrageously false: every Republican voted against ACA, and Republicans for years campaigned on trying to overturn it.

miley_cyrus··on Did California's fast food minimum wage reduce employment?
This group is well known for bias, over and over through the years. Nothing they report should be taken at face value.

"A considerable amount of financial support for the Center comes from labor unions: According to federal reports, over the last 15 years it has received nearly $1.2 million in labor funding."

"The IRLE’s highest-profile researcher is Michael Reich, who co-chairs its Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics. Reich made a name for himself at a young age co-founding the Union for Radical Political Economics, with the stated goal of supporting “public ownership of production and a government-planned economy.”"

> Since the laws preventing members of Congress from trading on information they receive as part of their duties, you can't say that the Pelosi's have violated any securities laws.

Oh yes, you can:

miley_cyrus··on The ten year anniversary of the Healthcare.gov rescue
If ACA is such a success story, then why is the US lifespan falling faster than any other developed country over the past few years?

There was of course a drop for COVID-19, but progress in life expectancy basically stalled after ACA was implemented, whereas life expectancy has kept growing in every other developed country.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/interactive/2023/ameri...

And to be clear: "While opioids and gun violence have rightly seized the public’s attention, stealing hundreds of thousands of lives, chronic diseases are the greatest threat, killing far more people between 35 and 64 every year, The Post’s analysis of mortality data found."

miley_cyrus··on To make dishwashers great again? (2020)

miley_cyrus··on To make dishwashers great again? (2020)
Biden is undoing this: https://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/regulation/bidens....

In addition to adding regulations to our refrigerators, washing machines, stoves, etc. etc.

miley_cyrus··on Drugmakers are ‘throwing the kitchen sink’ to halt Medicare price negotiations
How about we dictate a price on whatever industry you happen to be in? Maybe your product cost billions of dollars to develop, but how about we force you to sell it to everyone for peanuts?

There is no logical reason that pharma should be on the receiving end of all this hate. Especially considering that their job is literally to save lives.

miley_cyrus··on Drugmakers are ‘throwing the kitchen sink’ to halt Medicare price negotiations
Not true: insulin is not a drug whose price is being negotiated here (https://www.jmcp.org/doi/full/10.18553/jmcp.2023.29.3.229). The drugs whose prices are being negotiated are the brand new ones, the ones that took billions of dollars to develop. Without the promise of a payoff, future R&D will be halted, and humanity won't get benefit from the new medicines.
miley_cyrus··on Drugmakers are ‘throwing the kitchen sink’ to halt Medicare price negotiations
So they spend billions of dollars doing R&D to develop a medicine and then can't sell any?
miley_cyrus··on Drugmakers are ‘throwing the kitchen sink’ to halt Medicare price negotiations
Sure, if you want much less innovation: "IRA means 40% reduction in new drugs over 10 years, report finds" https://bio.news/health/ira-impact-new-drugs-pharmaceutical-...

miley_cyrus··on How I feel quitting my own startup
I've been the founder who has been fired by his cofounder, and I've been the founder who has had to fire a cofounder. It was really terrible from both ways. Hope things get better for you!
miley_cyrus··on New York City will charge drivers going downtown
He's saying it's not going to finance any "investments" - the extra money is just going to the unions.
miley_cyrus··on Supreme Court sides with Slack, putting direct listings in jeopardy
"The judiciary fails when it hurts people or causes injustice ..."

Totally disagree. The judiciary should not make up law. They are 9 people who have not been elected, have life terms, and have zero accountability to the people. If there needs to be new law, that responsibility should fall on our elected representatives, in other words Congress.

miley_cyrus··on Supreme Court sides with Slack, putting direct listings in jeopardy
This is the most one sided news article ever. There is no distinction between the securities act of 1933 and the securities act of 1934. Without presenting that, this article is willful disception.

"Given that giant warning sign, it's unclear why anyone would buy into a direct listing, and thus why any company would attempt one." - How does that follow?

miley_cyrus··on Gov. Inslee signs bill to remove death penalty from Washington state law
Activists against the death penalty raise costs by frivolous litigation and then claim that the death penalty is too expensive. The same thing they've done with other things they don't like, e.g. nuclear power. It's circular logic.
miley_cyrus··on SFUSD's delay of algebra 1 has created a nightmare of workarounds
In America, we have a war on merit.
miley_cyrus··on Fed hikes rates by 0.25 point despite recent turmoil in the banking sector
This is gaslighting -- increased taxes without increasing spending might reduce inflation. But the IRA massively increased government spending, and government spending is a primary driver of inflation. [1]

miley_cyrus··on DOE requires plans to promote diversity from grant applicants
For those who aren't in academia, this is every governmental science agency now. For example just 9 minutes ago (midnight ET) a funding announcement from the NIH just hit my inbox for "a mission to serve historically underrepresented populations in biomedical research that award doctorate degrees in the health professions or the sciences related to health."
miley_cyrus··on How to sequence your genome at home
Sequencing a genome is the easy part -- the difficulty is making sense of all of the data in a clinical/medical sense. I got my DNA sequenced/analyzed by https://www.nagenomics.com and found some interesting things that matched personal/family medical history.
