Seems like a good fit for a development contractor/consultancy: get pros to try to gin up a v1 clone fast. If they show that it's not too bad, no gnarly gotchas, have them help you hire folks who can get to v2 and beyond. Starting a software dev practice is daunting without prior applied experience, use the cheat code.
What about a firmware flash that nukes the Android part and makes it behave as a display, which hopefully you can flash back to your OS if policy or usecase changes?
My company alone has over 150 case studies that document specific positive ROI on cloud adoption. Not every can or will run their own; I’m pumped for Oxide and I think they are going to smash, but some teams really really benefit from Public Cloud.
While an employee, I stashed 6 colored "p-bone" plastic trombones in google colors in various Google Cloud offices... (tokyo has blue, green in UK, etc)
As a musician who also works in tech, it’s a little like a post mortem of a particularly novel and elegant architectural response to a challenging use case, a bit like Carmack’s Reverse. Our expectation is that a song in 12 will sound disjoint and clunky, this one is catchy and funky. Masterful!
Brandon, I know why this was built, and I agree with your list of viable uses; that said, it strikes me as extremely likely to lead to gnarly support load, grumpy customers, and system instability when it is inevitably misused. What steps across all of the user interfaces is GCP taking to warn users who may not understand their workload characteristics at all as to the narrow utility of this feature?
The analysis ignores the basics: AWS controls the supply. At some point there’s a limit to that control via supply chain (meaning they wouldn’t be able to make it cheaper when they want to) but if the number is going up, it’s pretty likely that’s totally intentional.
Please, listen to me: use this only in extremely limited cases where performance, stability, and cost efficiency are not paramount. An object store is not a file system no matter how hard you bludgeon it.
