mikmak··on How Tier 2 cloud vendors banded together to cope with Spectre and Meltdown
actually this kind of channel existed before (with OVH at first for the last few months, to fight some big abusers/phishings together) I guess it will depends on everyone's good will, but most of us will probably stay connected, it does not cost much to keep a slack tab opened (well a few Gb of memory haha, thanks Slack) ;)

everything we have at Scaleway is on our blog http://blog.online.net things are calming down now, we known what are the fixes for the known bugs and their limitations We can probably expect more OS patches in the coming weeks to improve performances and potentially fix new variants of these bugs that could come in the future
mikmak··on DDoS protection
ho sorry, misread you :)

regarding DTAG it's wrong (or outdated ?), we have a peering through HOPUS (hopus.net) since a few months with them :

mikmak··on C14, the Secure Cold Storage Platform, for Free During the Summer
yes every bit is encrypted with AES-256-CBC, we provide the encryption key which you must keep to restore

Mik

mikmak··on C14, the Secure Cold Storage Platform, for Free During the Summer
well kind of yes I guess, protocols to transfer from your side to C14 platform is fully encrypted (SSH/FTPS ...) then it's encrypted by the C14 platform itself to the end-storage backends

Mik

mikmak··on C14, the Secure Cold Storage Platform, for Free During the Summer
it is expected to take a few hours to un-archive datas as for the bandwidth, we have well enough (we have about 1.5tb/s global external capacity at the moment with various global IXes and many tier1 transits), the C14 platform network itself is designed to scale very easily (10g/40g unit base connections)

Mik (Online.net network)

mikmak··on C14 – Cheap, secure long term cloud storage
it's quite detailed in the documentation here : https://documentation.online.net/en/c14/offers

in the T&S here https://www.online.net/cgv-c14-en.pdf
mikmak··on C14 – Cheap, secure long term cloud storage
indeed the slider was lost in translation, I have forwarded this to our web team, thanks

Well, the shelter is still actually quite higher in Paris than the Seine (and quite far from it too), floods are not a concern at all in the area of this datacenter.

Regarding the LTO format, well LTO-10 seems to exist from what Google tells me (but I am no expert there to be honest ;)

As for the Secret Defense certification, this is ongoing, and, as you stated, we are part of a larger group which already have lots of relation with institutions like ANSSI but we (Online) have also been working with them to be certified in the coming months, of course this is a long and tedious process (as every certification is sic), but we are working on it every day and we see no reason we could not get to the end of it, we have a complete team of guys working on completing all the certifications displayed on the website and we are working with all our teams to get things done right for this.

The whole C14 infrastructure itself has been carefully designed from the beginning with people knowing all the certifications requirements to make sure nothing could get in the way to pass the certifications for it.

Hope this clears a bit your worries,

Mik (Online.net network)

mikmak··on C14 – Cheap, secure long term cloud storage
the FTP is actually TLS enabled

mikmak··on C2: Affordable X86-64 Servers
nope, our network (Online.net/Scaleway) is AS12876, Free/Iliad is AS12322 neither of them reannounce the other AS to the internet, they are both independant and separated
mikmak··on ARMv7 dedicated servers for 3.40 per month
every internal links (between blades, chassis and backbone) are x*10gb/s :) server to switch is 1gb/s dedicated
mikmak··on ARMv7 dedicated servers for 3.40 per month
of course we don't deploy a network accounting for every machine at 200mb/s flat 24/24, this would just be throwing money away. The reality is that most users won't be using these 200mb/s constantly, every customer have different traffic pattern usages. We (online.net) have a long history in dedicated servers (yes we have a >1tb/s global network footprint), we known how to scale the network the proper way. It is carefully monitored, when upgrades are needed, we do upgrade (for example you can check on status.online.net network section, you will see that we upgrade when it is needed, we have quite a few ongoing) the same applies to scaleway, we can upgrade network uplinks if needed and we do monitor that closely Note that only uplinks to the backbone are "shared", each 1gb/s port of the servers really are dedicated Hope this clarifies the design :)
mikmak··on Scaleway: Bare metal SSD ARM servers
yes, first scaleway's platforms are in Paris suburbs in our own datacenters (see http://iliad-datacenter.fr), more platforms are expected (most likely outside of France)
mikmak··on Scaleway: Bare metal SSD ARM servers
agreed, there is a plan to improve that ;)
mikmak··on Scaleway: Bare metal SSD ARM servers
well being the "noc", I pretty much know about it, so, point by point : - first our policy is here : http://as12876.net/, where do you see "paid peering" ? - diversified transit : we've got 4 tier 1 transit, is not that enough "diversified" ? I hardly see what we could do better there ... - peering: we are also available on the 2 main French IX ! you just need to drop a mail to get our routes on them (how much costs a mail these days ?) we are also doing free PNI with those having enough datas to send/receive

we are also adding a new IX soon (order was sent yesterday) which will improve our peering towards Europe

the infos you have are at least 10 years old imho... maybe look at http://map.online.net

mikmak··on Scaleway: Bare metal SSD ARM servers
but Online.net has its own network with a completely different policy ;) (AS12876)
mikmak··on Online Labs Designed Its Own ARM Servers To Take On AWS, DigitalOcean
the $1.99/month offer was just on the website for a few days ;) (it was a special/crazy offer with a limited stock of servers, something like ~2k servers iirc so it's no longer available, google for "dedibox kidechire")

there are plans for this ;)
