mikemoka··on BitTorrent’s Secure Dropbox Alternative Goes Public
1-Actually Dropbox lets everyone do just that, I can access the shared folder via the dropbox website whenever I want, download files in there and even access the old or deleted versions..something I see very unlikely in this case for now
mikemoka··on BitTorrent’s Secure Dropbox Alternative Goes Public
This project is useless if they don't figure out a way to serve files without both machines being turned on, there is also the problem of syncing with multiple clients beside that.

I see two key use cases that could cause trouble:

1)a co-worker turned his computer off and went home from work, the syncing couldn't complete even if only a single doc was left

2)Because there is no central server if all of my coworkers in a distributed team sync with my new shared folder at the same time, it is required that I own a connection capable of supporting that kind of traffic, because it would be almost the same as streaming a video to multiple users, not to mention that I would probably have to avoid to browse the web for pretty much anything else in the meanwhile.

mikemoka··on Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox taken down for hours by ‘another strong DDoS attack’
That is an interesting project indeed but I think the actual solution will not require previous trust among exchangers, because it would render it useless for the majority of potential users in my opinion.

There has to be something like an escrow service connected to it though (centralized or distributed) in order to guarantee for the transaction to be completed, do you agree?

ps. ripple's website appears to be down..

mikemoka··on Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox taken down for hours by ‘another strong DDoS attack’
I edited the original post, what I was referring to was a P2P bitcoin exchange, impossible to DDoS, and possibly built upon the technology shown by the bitcoin project itself
mikemoka··on Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox taken down for hours by ‘another strong DDoS attack’
Is something like a distributed peer-to-peer bitcoin exchange in the works? Will something like that ever be released?
mikemoka··on DDoS cripples Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox after trading resumes
Interesting but it looks pretty useless until they can figure out a solution to spam trades (people accepting their own fake trades and impacting the value of the currency), something that doesn't exist yet for now unfortunately, as they admit https://github.com/macourtney/Dark-Exchange/wiki/FAQ
mikemoka··on Tesla Unveils New Finance Product
Impressive, he has passion, vision and determination, he is truly a great entrepreneur, maybe the boldest of these times.
mikemoka··on Bitcoin exchange rate reached $100 USD per BTC
How could the bitcoin exchange rate reverse its trend and start falling? Do you have any scenarios in mind?
mikemoka··on Bitcoin exchange rate reached $100 USD per BTC
I agree, even though the amount of bitcoins in circulation will be limited this looks too strange to be a regular trend.
mikemoka··on The Big Book of Bitcoin - An introduction
"Bitcoin is obviously not the solution to these issues, nor will it be a key enabler to crime. It is just a currency with some interesting features on top: peer-to-peer, security, public transactions and potential anonymity."

Not a key enabler, but I think criminals would definitely appreciate a hardly traceable and potentially anonymous currency, don't you think?

It's not an opinion unfortunately, there is already evidence floating around that they are using it or that they are very interested about it.

Because of this I don't think bitcoin should replace a national currency anytime soon, can you convince me otherwise?

Lower costs in this market are also something that makes open source possible, I just found two opensource projects inspired by Google Reader and hosted on Google Code, what do you think of them?

very nice, I also suggest http://alternativeto.net/software/google-reader/?platform=on...
mikemoka··on BitInstant hacked: What and how it happened
The russian origin of the attack and the perseverance shown by "them" may be a sign that international organized crime is very much interested in bitcoins now.
mikemoka··on Developers, learn to design
The irony in using a dark color on a dark background to highlight your possibility to suggest a color change.
mikemoka··on Gravitational Lensing to Observe Ancient Earth
yes but if we manage to do everything (including unwarping the earth's reflection in the image) we would only see how our planet looked like 6 light years ago (3 for the light to arrive to the black hole and 3 to go back) and we won't be able to discern anything but the earth's surface, is that right?
mikemoka··on Visual Task Management for Individuals and Teams
This looks useful, beside looking prettier because it gives you a quick overview of everything and lets you zoom in/out on the specific activities, it feels more productive, the only thing that is non apparent is how dependent or subsequent tasks may be clearly visualized with this approach in my opinion.
mikemoka··on The Chromebook Pixel
Google Store // Play Store // Google Phone // Chromebook Pixel

Apple Store // App Store // iPhone // Macbook Pro

Microsoft Store (http://content.microsoftstore.com/Home.aspx ) // Windows Store // Windows Phone // Microsoft Surface RT

ok, very innovative strategies I'd say..

mikemoka··on A Most Peculiar Test Drive – Follow Up
I know I am walking upon a mined field here, but I think that, despite his hero status, a certain kind of insecurity is showing these days from him. I mean, if you are sure you have a good product would you argue to death with a journalist or will you answer him then let the public try and judge the product on his own when it comes out?

I mean, I don't think that if someone would have badly criticized the iPhone someone at Apple would have been deeply concerned, because they were certain that thousands of authors and thousands of users would have praised it soon thereafter, and a few bad opinions wouldn't have harmed it much.

mikemoka··on Ubuntu on tablets
This is great, I hope it will have the same success that Ubuntu for Mobile Devices gathered, oh wait, it didn't succeed after all..
mikemoka··on Elon Musk's Data Doesn't Back Up His Claims of New York Times Fakery
The articles about this event clearly explain in my opinion not who is wrong or right here but how much even the most smart reader's opinion can be guided or misled by what a specific author writes, whether by omissions, incomplete data or other rethorical techniques
mikemoka··on LinkedIn Users Can Now Call Each Other for Free
plingm users can call for free, this is just clever marketing, it is like if skype (free skype to skype calls) lets you check if your facebook contacts are skype users and then brags that facebook users can now call for free, seems legit :)
mikemoka··on Bit Traffic: Who Pays for Internet Traffic and Why?
the only way for isps to grow is not to block the progress but to embrace it, they should try to find a way to improve the technology behind their networks imho, could 4g networks bring something to consider here?
mikemoka··on A simple, intuitive, low-cost alternative to NFC and QR Codes
in my view: 1-because it is key for each store to have a unique stamp 2- I don' think so,what about stores in the same building or stores very near each other? 3-no two officially produced "snowshoes" though, anyway yes no one would keep you from 3d printing the stamp of another store so that you can have your customers pay that store instead of yours, but I don't see any clear advantage in it, and, as i said before, the app would probably show you the store name before proceeding
mikemoka··on A simple, intuitive, low-cost alternative to NFC and QR Codes
I was about to say the same thing but there is no point in faking it because it appears that the stamp only tells your phone to pay that specific store, the app then would probably ask you for a confirmation on screen (it could also ask you to enter a pin possibly).
mikemoka··on No user agent detection for the iPad Mini
would it be possible to do it by using one of these two approaches after the first general iPad user agent check?

-using a full screen image and getting an useful parameter from that via javascript

-uploading a screenshot of a graphics element via javascript/canvas for a server to evaluate

mikemoka··on IOS6 and iPhone 5 App Store Discoverability: What changed?
Because the App Store is ruled by small studios this will have a massive long term effect on the app store itself and its key competitive advantage over android, which is of course it's ability to provide "a (funtional) app for everything". If small studios will have trouble getting discovered they will have trouble in generating revenue and when that happens many other small studios, that don't have enough money for ads at launch, will lose interest in the marketplace as well.
mikemoka··on Megabox will replace 15% of ads on websites with Mega's own ads
So he is making you a proposal along these lines:

-hey man, come over here, I'll let you listen to music for free if you let me steal money from the websites you visit...do we have a deal?

totally legit.

mikemoka··on iOS 6 Breaks the App Store
This will raise the bar for the users as well unfortunately and I hope they will evaluate throughly.

A sample scenario:

I am on the move and I am looking for an app, I search with a keyword x, but I can only see ONE app at a time so:

1- I can't quickly compare the first search results and pick one in particular

2- If I want to see all the search results I have to swipe as many times as the number of the search results themselves

3-Finally I have to remember what I liked best then swipe all the way back to it

How can this be convenient for me, especially if I am in a hurry?
