mikegreenspan··on Show HN: Stockfisher –– our automated Warren Buffett
This seems like a really interesting usecase of LLMs. I’m curious how you’ve validated the outputs and what gives you confidence that the forecasts are good and not affected by hallucinations or incomplete information?
mikegreenspan··on Ask HN: Where can a hacker find news?
I recommend https://www.techmeme.com/
mikegreenspan··on Google Glass is now available to everyone
Interesting. At the time of submission, they were all in stock. I wonder if this page was accidentally shipped?
mikegreenspan··on Pinterest Raises $225 Million at $3.8 Billion Valuation
I'm sure their burn rate is pretty high. Also, you always raise more than you need to when cash is cheap so you can sit pretty.

mikegreenspan··on Hipmunk Launches Flight Deals
Oops, Hipmunk does IP tracking in the email, but I pasted in a link that was prepopulated for San Francisco. Sorry about that :)
mikegreenspan··on Dear Mark Zuckerberg
Aren't you always extending Facebook's core features when building with their API? The point of leveraging Facebook platform is to build amazing products that Facebook doesn't have the time or resources to create (see zuck's statement on the importance of Facebook platform during the earnings call).
mikegreenspan··on Twitter's arbitrariness: do we need a dist'd protocol, not a central service?
Have you checked out what we're doing at http://join.app.net?
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
Duly noted. Thanks for the feedback!
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
Thanks for the feedback. I know I probably sound redundant at this point, but we are still very early in the development this product. These screenshots are meant to show a working prototype built on our API and also to spark your imagination!
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
I understand your uncertainty, however I encourage you to search twitter for people who have pledged their support (we have highlighted a handful on join.app.net). I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
Thanks for the feedback. The app is nowhere near finished, but we just wanted to post initial screenshots of a live app built on our API.
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
These are only the first screenshots of the UI built on the API to show this isn't vaporware. You should follow that dribbble account, because there is much more to come!
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
That's the beauty of how we are going about this. If our campaign succeeds, there will be at least 9,999 like-minded individuals with you on day one!
mikegreenspan··on First screenshots of App.net
The screenshots are of a live app built on our API.
mikegreenspan··on The Twitter Rebellion: App.net Builds a Hacker's Alternative
App.net is a subscription-based service. i.e. Users and developers pay a yearly fee.
mikegreenspan··on The Twitter Rebellion: App.net Builds a Hacker's Alternative
Users should be aware of a detail like this if a feature they love is suddenly missing in an update.
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
Won't that just incentive quantity of tweets rather than quality of tweets? Where is the value in that service?
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
That has to be the best hotdog in all of Manhattan.
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
Mobile advertising is only in its infancy. If you think ads are invasive now, just imagine what life will be like when they move to a screen 1/10th of the size!
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
This blogpost was not intended to be another ad for App.net. Dalton's recent posts are a byproduct of his firm belief that the ad-supported business model is unsustainable. In fact, the footer was not originally included in the article. He decided to include a short sentence connecting his critique of ad services to our project after receiving feedback from the community. (http://twitter.com/johnsheehan/status/227816577607823360)
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We strongly believe what you want App.net to be is exactly what twitter could have been (http://daltoncaldwell.com/what-twitter-could-have-been). We are definitely thinking a lot about community building.
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
If we agree that the ad-supported model is broken, why not try to create an alternative?
mikegreenspan··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
Thanks for your feedback. We have had an internal conversation about copy in the header and are currently using Optimizely to test a few variations. We are definitely open to suggestions :)
mikegreenspan··on App.net project update #1
Out of curiosity, why don't you currently use the official Twitter app for iOS?
mikegreenspan··on Tell HN: Startup School 2011 emails are out
Does anyone know how many people were invited and how many people applied
mikegreenspan··on Joel Spolsky: Lunch
What is the best way to meet new people during lunch at a company cafeteria?

This summer, I visited a friend at Google and stayed for lunch (the food is incredible, better than most five-star restaurants btw). That day I noticed the same problem this article highlights. Either groups are meeting during lunch, or the remaining "loners" are reading the latest tech news on their computers and appear completely unapproachable. So if you don't want to eat alone and want to make new friends, what is the optimal way to overcome these barriers?
