michelb··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
For me, just creatine doesn’t seem to do a whole lot. But heavy workouts (with or without creatine), energize me enormously.
michelb··on Starlink ground station in Poland hit by fire in suspected arson attack
Effectively this is an attack on an American company’s infrastructure?

>It has been going for 11 years, moved two times and doesn't show any signs of going out.

I replaced my AEG washing machine last year after ±10 years of service. The new one, also roughly 200 euro, uses a fraction of the energy, and cleans better. I should have swapped it out way earlier to save money.

michelb··on Houthis used Claude Code to develop missile guidance software: Anthropic
It’s probably the influence of the current American administration, but I find all these AI weapons projects and startups so unbelievably uninspiring. Same with the fighting robots. We finally have a somewhat intelligent AI and we’re not advancing our healthcare, personal care, environmental problems, speeding up construction, finding new materials, etc.

The first one that gets to AGI will make the world worse instead of better. Depressing.

michelb··on iPhone Duo
Exactly, most Chinese/Eastern brands already standardised on the passport form factor, which is also why Apple chose it I guess. It has aspect ratio benefits.
michelb··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Maybe, but I would argue the Vision Pro is a devkit.
michelb··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Golden HN rule: the more complaints, the more successful the product will turn out because normal people like it. It’s like the inverse Cramer.

Yeah, exactly. I cannot wait to use this to take care of the boring stuff.
michelb··on We could save petabytes of cache storage with Zstandard and Pingora
Both were incredibly cheap until a few years ago, but I have no insights into their business.

michelb··on We could save petabytes of cache storage with Zstandard and Pingora
I suspect it just hasn’t been a priority problem in the past. This could very well have been a premature optimization when compared to getting services up and running reliably.
michelb··on Tim Cook's last day as Apple CEO
I think for that to happen we may need to replace one or two VP’s. But hey, maybe in the next MacOS Apple has used Claude to work through all the bugs and deferred optimizations.

michelb··on Manus will return to operating as an independent company
Simular stories. I work in an L&D company with about 15 coworkers. I think most of us use Cowork/Chatgpt Work almost fulltime. Haven’t used Word or Excel in two months other than to check or correct a bit of formatting from the AI. We now also go straight from Cowork to our CMS for finalizing. Tremendous timesavers but also better integration through our MCP. (AI is used for ideation, information research and writing the first version based on our guidelines. We finalize and/or rewrite material in the CMS by hand. No AI to consumer without verification or editing)
michelb··on Lost my phone at the office. Claude suggested tracking Bluetooth signal strength
That is of course the big question. Longest projects I have running are about 1.5 years old now and used daily by my coworkers. The projects got a huge rewrite when Opus came out.
michelb··on 70% of AI revenue comes from OpenAI and Anthropic [video]
I hope we can quickly escape these tasks and the focus on coding. It’s all very superficial. There are a ton of serious AI workloads imaginable and I haven’t seen anyone pushing those frontiers, at least not publicly. Nvidia had a shiny keynote about their digital twin of the world for solving large problems but i guess that one died already.

>A lot of code is being written and a lot of it is going to be a real future burden.

I don't think we'll be looking at code at all within the next few years. I know I already don't anymore. The code is not the product for me, and as long as any model, commercial or local, can maintain it (or recreate it), I'm fine. When I make a drawing in a vector drawing program I don't export to PostScript to see if they calculated the bezier curves correctly either.

I'm convinced most code will be ephemeral in a few years.

michelb··on LinkedIn Feed Blocker
I use it to keep tabs on competitors, finding out what potential prospects are posting, mapping out relations between companies in our focused industries, etc. Basically for new business signals.

It’s a great additional channel to find recent info on companies and people. Sites are usually stale, people post a ton of stuff on LinkedIn. We don’t get our clients through linkedin, but it gives our salespeople better angles to attack.

We used it for recruiting but it’s not great for that, tons of low quality replies. We never reach out, i personally hate that.

michelb··on “Gravity is worth asking about”
I think they could remove most of what they have added to the OS in the past 6-7 years and I wouldn’t even notice or miss it.
