michaelvillar··on Ask HN: How did you earn your first $100 and first $1k online?
As a teenager in early 2000s

First $100 = selling PhpBB skin

First $1,000 = website contracting

michaelvillar··on Show HN: Automations for Tasks – Height.app
It's actually not based on other tools, it's automating tasks within Height.app.

Does that make sense?

michaelvillar··on Show HN: Interval, CLIs in browser with no front end code
Loved using Interval in the past few months at height.app. I highly recommend it if you don't want to bother building UI within your internal admin pages.
michaelvillar··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
It depends if you care about this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatekeeper_(macOS)

> A better fix to this is:

> - Turn off Wifi (to be usable)

> - Add "0.0.0.0 http://ocsp.apple.com" to `/etc/hosts`

> - Turn on Wifi

> This is temporary, don't forget to remove it tomorrow.

You turn around and see Father Féval standing behind you. He looks very old and frail. He doesn't even have any teeth left.

> kill him

You quickly shoot Father Féval dead, but he still manages to dodge your bullets. You run over to him and punch him several times before he falls down dead.

michaelvillar··on Show HN: Fileshifter – Easily convert files and videos between different formats
It's nice! Quick feedback for UX improvement: let the user upload a file first, detect the extension, then ask what file type to convert to.
michaelvillar··on Ask HN: Why does Google put the query in the URL hash instead of query string?
They could use `pushState` to change the query without reloading the page?
michaelvillar··on Snapchat Has Been Faking Growth Numbers, Ex-Employee Alleges
Interestingly, the tweet (https://twitter.com/APompliano/status/639097166405853184) mentioned by Techcrunch (https://techcrunch.com/2015/09/02/snapchat-hires-a-new-growt...) doesn't exist anymore.
michaelvillar··on Product Design of the Stripe Dashboard for iPhone
Some of them are created using After Effects, HTML/CSS and iOS code. Was this your question?
michaelvillar··on Stripe Dashboard for iPhone
Thanks for the feedback! Totally on point!
michaelvillar··on Stripe Dashboard for iPhone

michaelvillar··on Online Porn Could Be the Next Big Privacy Scandal
You couldn't be more wrong about this.

- You need to convince only one browser. People that care about privacy will use that browser.

- You don't need licensing, they still use the OS fonts. They just limit the fonts available.

- You don't need to convince web developers because they already use these fonts and only these fonts. Who's using Papyrus?

- 1997 websites are going to break. Again, new websites use only a set of system fonts or fancy web fonts.

michaelvillar··on Online Porn Could Be the Next Big Privacy Scandal
Interesting.

Maybe browsers shouldn't have access to system fonts except a specific set. Websites can't assume fancy fonts are installed anyway, I don't think it would be a problem?

michaelvillar··on Online Porn Could Be the Next Big Privacy Scandal
It always confused me of why this hasn't been fixed yet.

It seems like most of the uniqueness is from the list of fonts and plugins.

Couldn't browsers limit that by asking user permission before providing it? (Fair question and I'm waiting to be wrong)

michaelvillar··on Don't Fly Drones Here
Or should you ask him first if he's aware of it?...
michaelvillar··on Global heatmap of cycling and running routes
(I come from Belgium)

Belgium heatmap is really funny. Flemish people bike so much compared to walloon people: http://cl.ly/image/1R2G0z2k1K2S

We will maintain it on nights/weekends after the official launch!
michaelvillar··on Show HN: Slidescroll – view your slide decks together
There should be a different demo page for each visitor. I was confused and thought it wasn't working well at first.
michaelvillar··on The Apple Reaper
Indeed.
michaelvillar··on The Apple Reaper
What's the feature exactly? :)

(Never heard of the multiplatform thing before.. seems like bullshit)

[Sorry for bug report here, didn't find another way] I think there is a bug with get_my_item_count() and get_opponent_item_count(). These two functions don't return decimal. When players have 0.5, they return 0. This works locally though.

Example of failed match : http://www.scribd.com/job_game/match/295703 This line for example 1 / 1 / 0 / 0 / 1 - first number is the fruit type - second number is the total fruits - third number is my fruits - fourth number is opponent fruit - fifth number is irrelevant (You'll never see 0.5 in the third or fourth number..)

michaelvillar··on Scribd says: Beat our programmers at a coding challenge
OK. Will do that thanks !
michaelvillar··on Scribd says: Beat our programmers at a coding challenge
I think there is some kind of bug where a bot is stopping. Example : http://www.scribd.com/job_game/match/275573 I simulated two boards where this bug happens online, and it doesn't happen locally.

Also, the API is wrong here : "return the index of that fruit (starting with 0)" => It starts at 1

michaelvillar··on Scribd says: Beat our programmers at a coding challenge
Same here when trying to update the bot.
