mi_lk··on How Stylo Brought Rust and Servo to Firefox
Off-topic, but does anyone know why in FF on Mac the pinch to zoom functionality is disabled by default? Is there any performance concern?
mi_lk··on Confession as an AI researcher; seeking advice
A little off-topic, but hope this would be an another reminder that despite having huge success/hype these days, deep learning/machine learning are just another tools for solving problems, and you can't go really far if you just treat it like a magic framework (i.e. import tensorflow as tf) and fail to understand its underlying principles.
mi_lk··on What is a Bitcoin fork?
Do you have a non-fb link?
mi_lk··on Chalktalk – A digital presentation and communication language
Yes. “Still doing stuff” is an underestimate. From what I gather, he is very active both at the academic and the industry.
mi_lk··on Do you need a VPN?
Do you mean you can use SSH for anonymous browsing? I genuinely don’t know how that works out, isn’t that just transfer the risk to the server you ssh into, so you end up having to trust the server? Do you have some links for reference?
mi_lk··on Do you need a VPN?
> I'm on Verizon so I don't get to choose if I need one.

Can you expand on that? I’m also on Verizon and feel like having a panic attack.

mi_lk··on Do you need a VPN?
It seems like a promo link which gives you 500mb per month for free. You have to pay for unlimited data.
mi_lk··on Fun facts about Rust's growing popularity
What’s wonderful about Rustaceans, is it a play on any reference?
mi_lk··on Why Rust fails hard at scientific computing
If you have to grok the language to write concise code, you kind of prove the parent’s point isn’t it? That is, it’s easy for newcomers to write code that seems to be unreadable.
mi_lk··on Ask HN: Resources to learn blockchain and smart contracts?
Skip intro, jump right in the technical chapters, it really goes into necessary details as an introductory book.
mi_lk··on Firefox Focus – A new private browser for iOS and Android
Does this work in embedded browser? More often than not I don't open links within Twitter/Reddit mobile app bc I can't stand some intrusive ads.
mi_lk··on Show HN: Juggernaut – Experimental Neural Network in Rust
> All cool neural network research is done on Keras/Tensorflow

Add in PyTorch if you are really talking about nn research.

mi_lk··on 80-year Harvard study has been showing how to live a healthy and happy life
Do you exercise on a regular basis? I think I've learnt from Coursera's Learning How to Learn that interaction with people and exercise have similar effect to our brain cells, that both will help generate new cells (I don't know the details, but you probably get the idea).

So that's what I figure how to keep myself sane if I would enter a period of almost-to-none daily interaction with people.

The one probably can't replace the other, but I'm curious if you would still have those symptoms with regular exercise.

mi_lk··on A Path Less Taken to the Peak of the Math World
> Can someone explain how someone who has decided to distance himself from math can major in PHYSICS?!

And it takes a lot for an undergrad to take algebraic geometry class under a Fields Medal laureate. That gives a sight about his math maturity.

mi_lk··on Ways to Get Better at C++
Surely you are joking right? I just can't imagine one has to go through all those books to be proficient in one language.
mi_lk··on Is atomic theory the most important idea in human history?
Knowing things makes you more knowledgeable, not necessarily more intelligent.
mi_lk··on Most used words in programming languages
Well, Lua's word list starts with index 0...
mi_lk··on A Prettier JavaScript Formatter
