mhitza··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Thank you for providing context.

Are his public stances on immigration precisely stated as remigration, or does he describe a thing such as remigration without explicitly naming it as such?

About his quote from wikipedia "They will also be forced to leave, even if they are born in Sweden, because they have no natural connection to Sweden. They are not Swedish." which links to this video tweet https://x.com/AllardKlipp/status/2060109271635771457 can you give full context/translation?

mhitza··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Any of the Swedes in here can corroborate the claims in the article about this right wing group? Especially about the extreme anti-immigration statements and put that in full translation and context?

Also what this group leader has done in Örebro to contextualize this quote

> ”I hope they will do similar things on the national level as in Örebro”, writes Daniel Berntsson to Flamman.

mhitza··on Countries are competing to see which can carry out mass surveillance the best
By ignoring key implementation details. That's what has been happening in Romania with this topic for the last year.

Constant polling and reporting of opinion, and always phrased in terms of effect instead of how they aim to do so.

Once properly informed "do you want to go through an ID check on all websites and apps that you use?" people wise up quickly to the issue. But state sponsored media is pretty adamant about moving this topic forward.

Maybe an acknowledgement that is a limitation that they understand and it would be something they could change in the future. Maybe showing understanding that it is surprising that a credit based system goes into negative.

I don't know, this was not the first time I got surprised by their system.

Before that I preloaded my account for a couple of credits (+vat). Then they switched to monthly invoicing (+vat for my existing credit). Basically I got double VATed (?) for the single initial payment. Paid for 12 months upfront only to have to recharge more quickly. Why should it be my problem that they have problems understanding billing and building billing systems?

In the past when I signed up it was advertised as usage based billing with the fixed monthly fee somewhere in the fine print? But there is also some usage minimum because at some point I started getting credits used. But not in the first few months where my traffic was under some threshold.

It doesn't help that they constantly move things around in their website with no clear thought. Like how I was corrected in another comment thread with information that isn't on the expected pages like pricing or terms of service.

Maybe they just lack understanding of user experience. Or I'm just a dumb user. I accept either theory.

edit: honestly I don't know if I was double VAT situation or just became a non VAT except company, and ain't gonna dig that up, but if it's the later they should have swallowed the cost for existing credit because changing expected outcomes mid way is no bueno.

First one didn't happen, so I don't know what the threshold is. But don't sell me a credit based system if it can go in the negative. Again for a progress bar that doesn't represent negatives.

You are correct on the billing front. I checked the dashboard and I misremembered the day I switched off my resources. June was a slow moving month and I though it happened last month!

I'll retract my claim in the previous comment if I still can edit.

mhitza··on We’re making Bunny DNS free
That's a very uncharitable way of dismissing my claim that the parent claim of the service stopping automatically when you go over your credits is not true.

That's one thing. The second thing, I'm happy for you that you have more information about their pricing system than their pricing page and terms of service page state.

mhitza··on We’re making Bunny DNS free
My point was to correct one claim in your previous comment.
mhitza··on We’re making Bunny DNS free
It's not purely prepaid otherwise I wouldn't be charged into negative (see my other comment in this thread).
mhitza··on We’re making Bunny DNS free
My website traffic was a couple megabytes per month. I paid them for about 3 years for neglegible usage. Should I have zero expectation for paying because its cheap?

You can be metered or fixed price. Mixing the two in the most inuintive way possible is a true innovation. /s

Other cloud based provider have the option to pay for your usage to the cent. I guess that innovation didn't reach the EU. /s

mhitza··on We’re making Bunny DNS free
They are competitive price wise, but less competent human wise.

Their lack of user care shows when you start talking to support. I've never had this experience with an US company (except the US giants) where support basically gives me an "it is what it is".

The most recent that really put the cherry on top.

I was planning on dropping them when running out of prepaid credits.

ALL SaaS software I've used before that had a top up option would notify me when my credits where about to run out. Bunny doesn't.

What is a point of a credit bar (progress bar) of you can go into negative? I went into negative.

There is no option to pay only what you've used, but the minimum necessary is a 10er.

Which should remain as credits in your account for future use.

But then you can't even spin down your usage by dropping everything because merely having the account you pay the monthly subscription of 1+vat.

Support: paraphrasing "that sounds right". And I could be quoting them with this for almost all 3 times I've interacted with them.

Yes, I am very much unpleased on customer support experience. But they are not unique and a symptom of multiple EU providers I've switched to in the last 3 years.

mhitza··on Claude Tag
> You don't generally tend to have long sessions with agents in Slack like you would if using in the terminal.

You have to check the announcement fineprint. As long as they advertise it as proactive it needs to keep up to date with all the ongoing discussions. And I believe that means all group messages. Wouldn't that make sense?

From the announcement

> follows along with its channel, it builds more context about the work

> And Claude can even automatically learn from other Slack channels and data sources, if it’s granted permission.

And the additional "ambient" mode also seems to imply that it will work by itself in background tasks to check (I assume) in some scheduled fashion what stale topics it needs to reengage.

mhitza··on Steam Machine launches today
> However it might actually be the inferior gaming machine for CPU/main RAM intense strategy or simulation games (e.g. Stellaris).

On Stellaris: I remember having a pretty good experience (not stellar) playing on a 2012 AMD FX-8350 desktop cpu. The six year old midrange laptop cpu Ryzen 4650u smokes that desktop cpu.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/1780vs3766/AMD-FX-8350-...

Just to draw out the fact that with the Steam machine you will have a better Stellaris experience than what I had 7-8 years ago. (Because I assume even better performance than this laptop class cpu)

My thoughts go more on the question if 15GB ram 8GB VRAM is enough for the next 7 years. And if Steam verified will all be split up, and become more confusing, between the 3 different devices they have.

mhitza··on Show HN: I rebuilt the only parts of my IDE I use, in Rust, over a weekend
Woah woah, temper down the assertion my friend!

Profiling is a tool meant for processes that relate to performance, or hot spots. Debuggers when integrated well[1], are great tools but compete with print based debugging which is a much more general skill one uses and needs to learn.

Let's reserve malpraxis considerations for writing code without any true thought given for security, privacy, accessibility and human rights affected.

[1] and I don't like the interface of any of the debuggers I used. Except maybe in ghci, if I had the patience to script a Tcl/Tk frontend one day.

mhitza··on Danish privacy activist Lars Andersen raided by police
I get that it's a secret location now, but I don't understand in context if this activist is the trigger of the situation. An if so how can this be considered a threat.

Stalking falls under the broad category of harassment in my eastern european country. I feel as if this would be a non issue given an official police warning. At most.

mhitza··on Danish privacy activist Lars Andersen raided by police
What security concerns? Of a person telling people where you live?

Are the homes of Danish prime ministers secret?

mhitza··on Building reliable agentic AI systems
The infra/agent architecture to run all this is becoming a bit much, if we want to have (some level of) assurable output, in any area of their application. Not only medicsl research needs citation-backed output.

This is an ongoing working project since 2024, I would like to see some KPI metrics to back off any productivity /job satisfaction improvement in the research department, or what have you, at Bayer.

Monthly average token usage would be another interesting information to read about. Paired with any latency numbers (time to first token, for example).

mhitza··on A backdoor in a LinkedIn job offer
Things like this where a tried and tested method on Upwork, particularly in the 2021-2022 crypto/nft highs. At some point they branched out from crypto projects and cast a wide net across different categories.

Last I recall was a download of a windows scr (screensaver masquerading) file.

Linkedin is a new low, and I'm sure the platform doesn't really care (look, more jobs), just as ad network companies (Google, Meta) don't really care about scam ads.

mhitza··on Hetzner Price Adjustment
Interesting over the price increase rollover now the setup fee is around 110 euros.

The machine itself is basically useless for any type of realtime inference, no matter what the marketing page states, but I still use it for prototyping LLM integrations and running comparisons across MoE models.

If only the alternatives to framework desktop wouldn't be so poorly built, I might swap it out for a local machine which has more ram but comparable performance for stuff like gpt-oss-20b (around 70tok/s)

mhitza··on Hetzner Price Adjustment
They are also becoming greedy. I rent their 20GB VRAM instance GEX44, for which they now ask a 500 euro one-time setup fee. Whereas it was something like 60 euros a year ago.

mhitza··on OpenAI Prepping for On-Prem Product?
Would be interesting if they released an updated open weights model to go along to whatever hardware dell will configure.
mhitza··on Policy on the AI Exponential
Does this guy have exponential breakfasts?

I agree on some points about the missuse of AI particularly for surveillance, military and propaganda.

But this reads like a post further glazing Mythos, and we are just one or two years away "trust us guys", and similar to Mistral's policy plea "please use AI everywhere or we are going to be left behind".

I had the hardest time accepting one of his first points that LLMs could barely write a line of code 4 years ago.

ChatGPT 3.5 was reasonable at code writing but hallucinated a lot of library functions. Yes we have better harnessing today, and models have been further finetunned with reallife code, but pushing this argument just to support his exponential narrative is deceptive. Like most AI marketing.

mhitza··on A €0.01 bank transfer could compromise a banking AI agent
This is downvoted, but the industry does want people to use such an approach. For example see IBMs Granite Guardian model which is targetted at this usecase.

If it is that much better in practice I'll await confirmation through some kind of research paper before building even more stacked layers of LLMs.

mhitza··on AI is slowing down
> Anthropic's revenue increased from $1 billion in Dec. 2024 to $47 billion May of 2026.

That's the kind of claim that requires and asterix, and things like this are what feeds into the AI propaganda machine.

That is an anualized revenue, which are projected numbers and not "real numbers".

mhitza··on EU-banned pesticides found in rice, tea and spices
That is one reason why I, at least try to, check the label and avoid products with non-EU ingredients.

Also one of my worries with the mercusour trade deal. And any deal that involves meat imports from the US, with specific laxer regulation requirements (at least what Trump would like).

mhitza··on Data centers consumed 264B gallons of water as drought hits nearly 63% of US
999 billion liters of water.

From a quick search I gather that US citizens' daily use is around 300B gallons https://watercalculator.org/footprint/how-united-states-uses...

I was just curious of the number and scale.

mhitza··on Harness engineering: Leveraging Codex in an agent-first world
Individual voices aren't strong enough to drown the marketing machine.

Artists and writers are unionized, why they have a more powerful collective voice.

Second, there are enough peole for which their jobs are very well paid and too cozy to dare to rock the boat.

The economy and job market isn't so hot either at the moment for people to quickly be able to jump ship.

Can you even be sure that you find a tech company that isn't jumping head first onto the AI hype train? Even politicians can't have enough of AI in their mouth.

mhitza··on Major P2P issues in Israel and possibly other Middle East countries
My favorite bug family, that somehow to sneak in every time, is how their react frontend (or whatever the store runs) manages to semi-crash and the controller inputs are no longer recognized.

I kind of hope at least they'll fix such issues permanently before the steam machine release.
