mhanberg··on Pop _OS 24.04's New Scratch-Built Cosmic: Hands-On, with Screenshots
It's somewhat common in the context of cooking. A recipe may refer to something as "scratch made" when its "made from scratch".

In this case, its an extension of the phrase but using the word built instead of made.

mhanberg··on Elixir 1.17 released: set-theoretic types in patterns, durations, OTP 27
Correct, a gradual type system is a form of type system and not the method for rolling it out.

mhanberg··on Validating Data in Elixir: Using Ecto and NimbleOptions
Next LS author here! I would love to hear about how your emacs experience went and what your setup/config is. My emacs skills are not the best (zero), so I've not been able to really work through any of the kinks.

I have recently gotten it working tho with vanilla emacs with eglot, as well as doom emacs (again, with eglot).

No pressure!

That's fine, but generally people on use that expression in a negative way, so I think it's reasonable to ask for explanation of why you think that.

In general I don't think it's fair to leave drive by comments like that without elaboration, as others might just see it and take it at face value when further clarification might reveal a misunderstanding.

I have also switched to rtx, and even use it in the Next LS build pipeline as an easy way to install Elixir & OTP.

I wonder if waynesonfire will ever return to elaborate on what the mean exactly by that.

I'm not really sure how 'Not Invented Here' applies to someone building an OSS project.

Well sounds like you came to the right place!

mhanberg··on Aspartame sweetener to be declared possible cancer risk by WHO, say reports
Literally read halfway down the article before they say that "working overnight" is also in the "probably carcinogenic" category and that the organization is known for publishing confusing results that cause panic.

mhanberg··on The Comprehensive Guide to Elixir's List Comprehension (2022)
I interpreted their message as saying Erlang is more functional than Elixir, which didn't really make sense to me personally. (I think they are both the same amount of "functional")
mhanberg··on The Comprehensive Guide to Elixir's List Comprehension (2022)
I'm not really following your comment about "more functional style".

Which are you saying is more functional? And why?

mhanberg··on The Comprehensive Guide to Elixir's List Comprehension (2022)
I generally default to a comprehension unless it becomes illegible.

mhanberg··on LICEcap: Simple Animated Screen Captures
I love LICEcap. I would use the built in video capture from macOS, but LICEcap produces files that are much smaller.

The quality isn't as good, but most gifs I am producing are meant to be viewed in slack or iMessage where the quality is not super important.
