mfru··on Google urges Android phone users to switch off Wi-Fi calling
seems to still be maintained by Replicant

https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/GalaxyS...

which seems to be outdated by about 5 years now

https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/DeviceS...

i admire how long devices could be used, if they just were to receive security updates...

mfru··on APITable: open-source Airtable alternative
have you considered PayloadCMS? it has hooks for nearly any situation imaginable: https://payloadcms.com/docs/hooks/overview

not affiliated in any way

mfru··on What’s so great about functional programming anyway?
incompetence is most likely just the impostor syndrome speaking
mfru··on Tinygrad: A simple and powerful neural network framework
> You are (hopefully) focusing 8 hours "straight" during work _every day_.

I refuse to believe that 8 hours straight focus every day is common.

I have about 4 - 6 hours of really focused, deep work focus available. 6 hours if I am really interested in the project and 4 hours for normal days. The rest is doing low focus work like writing mail, planning ahead, attending workshops, reading up on updates for relevant libraries, reading documentation etc.

mfru··on Rakuten Mobile is replacing Red Hat as its Linux OS supplier
can someone explain to me, now that CentOS is upstream of RHEL, what the difference between Fedora and Cent OS Stream is?
mfru··on One trick Apple uses to make you think green bubbles are “gross”
I love how Anki is free on Android but paid on iOS. (Apple tax gets a totally new meaning here)
mfru··on Spaced repetition can allow for infinite recall
I am also very interested, are you planning on open-sourcing / selling it?
mfru··on Ask HN: What Happened to Evernote?
Second that, I switched from

- Joplin (Nextcloud sync)

- org-mode (Nextcloud sync)

finally to Logseq (org format, not md) and Nextcloud sync. It feels like I found a solid note taking / life organising / knowledge management solution for me now.

As soon as mobile is working as well I am set for a long time.

mfru··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
I am scratching my own itch and learning Clojure on the way with building a FLOSS alternative to a very famous project management tool.

I found that this tool is quite a sweet spot for bringing small teams of technical and non-technical people together and get stuff done, but I yearned for an open-source version of it to hack around.

It is all still in a very early prototyping stage, but I plan to release an alpha until summer.

mfru··on I Miss RSS
Apparently there are people keeping a clone of Google Reader alive: https://theoldreader.com/

(Not affiliated in any form and not a user of the service, just a random internet find)

mfru··on German state planning to switch 25,000 PCs to LibreOffice
I'd say a combination of Nextcloud together with Collabora Office.
mfru··on Google sends anti-regulation propaganda to small businesses using Google Maps
Thank you for this!

I try to use OSM as much as possible and this is perfect for me to contribute info on the go from now on.

mfru··on Differences with other Lisps
I can confirm that, Calva enabled me to get comfortable enough with the whole ecosystem to actually start with experimental projects.

I fully plan on making it my main language for my own projects, with that being Java and the web stack at the moment.

mfru··on Hetzner cloud servers are now available in Ashburn USA
If accurate this is a disgusting way of communication on behalf of the Hetzner employee.

I would immediately consider to move my projects to another provider if I were a customer with them.

They have an account on HN, so maybe they could clarify. I certainly wouldn't be considering to become a client with them.

mfru··on Private keys used to sign EU Digital Covid Certificate might have been leaked
The Austrian app is verifying it as well still:

mfru··on Legalizing gay marriage in Crusader Kings III with Ghidra
I read it as "Hey, there is this game trying to depict a historically accurate medieval scenario. I modified it for fun to allow gay marriage".

And the first paragraph seems to confirm this interpretation:

> Crusader Kings III is a pretty impressive game. It’s impressive not only for its official content, but also for its extensive modding tools. Even before its release, I was drawn in by its promises of an improved modding experience. Relevant to this post, I was also impressed by an apparent dedication towards improved inclusivity.

mfru··on 0 A.D A free, open-source game of ancient warfare
This reminds me of all the fun I had with Empire Earth. Will have to check 0 A.D out.
mfru··on GitHub, fuck your name change
No, you get upvoted for posting stuff that other people think are contributing to the discussion in a meaningful way.

Not everyone is going to be voting 100% according to HN guidelines, but it is in everyone's best interest here to hold each other to high standards regarding them.

> Ouch there goes my Sokal slant. Better read up on my Sartre.

Stuff like this will probably get you downvotes as your sarcasm is not contributing in a meaningful way (at least I think it doesn't)

mfru··on Speed of Rust vs. C
> It is an entirely different story if a project is started with sanitizers, Valgrind and best practices.

What are the agreed upon tools and best practices in the C community as of right now?

mfru··on Twitter Is the New ClubHouse
I wish there was a possibility to opt out of / hide things like Fleets and (in the future) Spaces.

I like my Twitter experience as it is – latest timeline, chronologically ordered, nothing else – and would prefer to keep that experience.

mfru··on Sonobus: Open-source app for low latency peer-to-peer audio

Have to link to that because I chuckled at your post.

mfru··on We now consider Moment.js to be a legacy project in maintenance mode
It would seem to be quite easy to do something like:

https://img.shields.io/badge/Maintenance-Legacy-success

or

https://img.shields.io/badge/Maintenance Level-Done-success

and have that as a convention.

Additionally to being easy to implement, it is literally a 3 second task for maintainers to add something like this into their Readme.
