This is to be said for any addiction

Disgusting
metaltyphoon··on We'd be better off with 9-bit bytes
Ideally you learn with what you are both with. It’s easy to have base 10 as you have ten fingers. If we only had 8 fingers we could have ended up with octal

So… pretty much how C does it.

This, so, many, times :)

Curious, what keywords were those? I think Chris Lattner was not involved with Swift after version 3

He gave an interview on YouTube, which contradicts this.

metaltyphoon··on Replacing tmux in my dev workflow
Hahahaha this was a fun read ;)

How is this even possible? Just pipe result from a command into a file and open in vim and search it that way? Perhaps use Neovim's built in terminal where you can search at will? I find it hard to believe that "I don't ever search" is a thing.
metaltyphoon··on Replacing tmux in my dev workflow
Zellij has added a "locked" mode (defaults to Ctrl + g) where it acts just like Vim's normal/insert modes. So when to do mux commands you unlock it first.

It seems that WezTerm can do what you asked

That's the most annoying part of ghostty at the moment. I have no idea why it isn't a priority :( https://github.com/ghostty-org/ghostty/issues/189
metaltyphoon··on Carbon Language: An experimental successor to C++
> Swift seems to be doing a decent job of this

It keeps adding keywords and it has become way harder to keep it in your head. It’s over 220 at this point. Don’t take my word for it, Swift creator doesn’t agree with its current direction either.

metaltyphoon··on Zig Interface Revisited
Agreed, this puts me off using Zig. I can’t endure this level of boilerplate any longer.
metaltyphoon··on C# Language Design Meeting for June 30th, 2025
OP specifically said .net 6.
metaltyphoon··on C# Language Design Meeting for June 30th, 2025
I agree with the first example. I wish C# could do “free” floating functions which just lives in the namespace itself. Your second example could do with the extra namespace indentation by doing

namespace math;

metaltyphoon··on C# Language Design Meeting for June 30th, 2025
This would break every codebase in C# where a file lives in a folder where it is NOT in sync with the file system.
metaltyphoon··on C# Language Design Meeting for June 30th, 2025
This is just a preference. CSP in Go has its warts too, such as idiosyncrasies with channels.
metaltyphoon··on C# Language Design Meeting for June 30th, 2025
> the code from back then does not compile

Are you to share the code? C# 1 code still compiles today, so I don’t understand this statement at all.

metaltyphoon··on C# Language Design Meeting for June 30th, 2025
> It's not only JS/TS. Python, Go, Rust

Rust allows you to move modules around without you changing using.

> given that most projects already have them in sync

What makes you think this? I’d wager that most C# code is not open source.

How does any of this relates to the amount of hours one works?

metaltyphoon··on Zig's new I/O: function coloring is inevitable?

So we are just going to forget Go exists?

metaltyphoon··on Error handling in Rust
I 100% agree with you. I wanted OP to see:

> So much ceremony over something that could be Foo | Bar | Error

Is not really a good idea and he can see this done in Zig.

metaltyphoon··on Error handling in Rust
Look at Zig then, as it does exactly this. However you can’t carry any context and it’s also a problem.
metaltyphoon··on Error handling in Rust
> The current standard for error handling, when writing a crate, is to define one error enum per module…

Excuse me what?

> This means, that a function will return an error enum, containing error variants that the function cannot even produce.

The same problem happens with exceptions.

metaltyphoon··on Why is the Rust compiler so slow?
