messh··on Codex for almost everything
SSH to devboxes is the exact usecase for services like https://shellbox.dev: create a box using ssh... and ssh into it. Now web, no subs. Codex can create it's own boxes via ssh
messh··on Show HN: Libretto – Making AI browser automations deterministic
how does it differ from playwright-cli?
messh··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
It doesn't solve recording and uploading later... say a movie. So how does it even make sense?
messh··on Show HN: Eve – Managed OpenClaw for work
you can spin similar instances very cheaply and billed only for the time openclaw actually runs in https://shellbox.dev ($0.02 for 2vcpu, 4gb ram, 50gb hdd, real linux with headless chrome etc)
messh··on Launch HN: Freestyle – Sandboxes for Coding Agents
Checkout shellbox.dev, you can do pretty much the same, automating it all bia ssh
messh··on Go hard on agents, not on your filesystem
How is this different than say bubblewrap and others?
messh··on Show HN: I put an AI agent on a $7/month VPS with IRC as its transport layer
Can be significantly cheaper on a vm that wakes up only when yhe agebt works, see for e.g. https://shellbox.dev
messh··on OpenAI's latest repo has Claude as the third top contributor
but if you move to gpt-5.4 ?
messh··on Ask HN: Is Claude down again?
It's down for me
messh··on After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changes
so.... is RTO optional
messh··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
idk, seems being single rocks :) I have not time for myself at all
messh··on Launch HN: Terminal Use (YC W26) – Vercel for filesystem-based agents
how does it compare to https://shellbox.dev? (and others like exe.dev, sprites.dev, and blaxel.ai)
messh··on Helix: A post-modern text editor
ohh Ki and Helix on the front page today... it's a good day! :)
messh··on Ki Editor - an editor that operates on the AST
I don't like the positional keybindings. There is no real difference from regular keybindings configured with profiles for Qwerty, Dvorak, etc. In practice, it just means presenting them drawn into keyboards in a way that is hard to quickly search or use in the terminal and anywhere really. Where's the "line" key? Search the drawing! (Oh... it is there in th top left corner, but which exact key?) I prefer a list. So, really, it is not even that big of a "special thing" except the presentation.
messh··on System76 on Age Verification Laws
"The child can install a virtual machine, create an account on the virtual machine and set the age to 18 or over."

No, the vm is for grownups over 18.

messh··on Anthropic Cowork feature creates 10GB VM bundle on macOS without warning
Yeah, very easy to do today. May VPS providers help with this, checkout:

https://exe.dev

https://sprites.dev

https://shellbox.dev

messh··on I think WebRTC is better than SSH-ing for connecting to Mac terminal from iPhone
Or... use something like https://shellbox.dev
messh··on Claude Code for Infrastructure
Yeah, I'm telling it to use aws cli to spin up instances, configure them, start servers, read cw logs etc.
messh··on Coding Agent VMs on NixOS with Microvm.nix
I use shellbox.dev to create sandboxes through ssh, without ever leaving the terminal
messh··on Deno Sandbox
And shellbox.dev
messh··on Deno Sandbox
This is exactly what I built shellbox.dev for.

SSH in, it resumes where you left off, auto-suspends on disconnect. $0.50/month stopped.

I have the same pattern - one box per project, never think about them until I need them.

messh··on What I learned building an opinionated and minimal coding agent
Right idea but the reason people don't do this in practice is friction. Setting up a throwaway VM for every agent session is annoying enough that everyone just runs YOLO on their host.

I built shellbox (https://shellbox.dev) to make this trivial -- Firecracker microVMs managed entirely over SSH. Create a box, point your agent at it, let it run wild. You can duplicate a box before a risky operation (instant, copy-on-write) and delete it after.

Billing stops when the SSH session disconnects.

No SDK, no container config, just ssh. Any agent that can run shell commands works out of the box.

messh··on Euro firms must ditch Uncle Sam's clouds and go EU-native
This matches my experience. I run a pay-per-use VM service (shellbox.dev) entirely on Hetzner auction servers with Firecracker microVMs. Sub-second boot, full Linux environment, SSH-only interface. The entire "cloud" layer is Firecracker + Btrfs reflinks for instant copy-on-write cloning. No managed Kubernetes, no proprietary orchestrators.

The total cost of that stack is remarkably low — cheap enough to offer VMs at $0.02/hr running and $0.50/mo stopped, which undercuts most hyperscalers for bursty workloads. The "billions in investment" framing is exactly the problem. Most of what hyperscalers sell is convenience wrappers around commodity compute, and the lock-in is the product.

Wrote up the economics here if anyone's curious: https://shellbox.dev/blog/race-to-the-bottom.html

messh··on Show HN: Amla Sandbox – WASM bash shell sandbox for AI agents
Docker and vms are not the only options though... you can use bubblewrap and other equivalents for mac
messh··on Linux boxes via SSH: suspended when disconected
it is not the cheapest on a per hr basis, so I hope it will self select to not be used for such purposes
messh··on Running Claude Code dangerously (safely)
the shellbox VMs work great as sandbox for Claude-Code. It uses ssh to create and connect to the boxes -- very simple and quick to setup

check it out: https://shellbox.dev

messh··on Linux boxes via SSH: suspended when disconected
Excellent point. This may be better proposition for more expensive instances
messh··on Linux boxes via SSH: suspended when disconected
But you cannot suspend these vps so easily and fast. Shellbox.dev aims to be frictionless in that regard
messh··on Linux boxes via SSH: suspended when disconected
Currently the price is in the same ballpark as dev.exe ($20/month no suspendind) ans sprites.dev (higher for suspended butnlowe for running)
messh··on Linux boxes via SSH: suspended when disconected
You are missing an ssh key. Run this first:

ssh-keygen -t ed25519
