meshugaas··on Redis is fast – I'll cache in Postgres
Love this. There's never just one variable to think about.
meshugaas··on Nvidia's OpenAI Deal Fuels 'Circular' Financing Concerns
Oracle & Coreweave deal coming soon to complete the circle…
meshugaas··on Fired for exercising free speech: irony
woke cancel culture at it again!!
meshugaas··on CoreWeave signs $6.3B order with Nvidia to cover unsold cloud capacity thru 2032
I don’t understand why nvidia would do this, other than to ensure the vibes stay good longer?
meshugaas··on Yes, AI Continues to Make Rapid Progress, Including Towards AGI
It would be fascinating to see numbers behind how many AI boosters are religious. Feels like a similar central belief. No matter the current state, boosters believe it will get better: essentially they have faith. Critics take it at current face value and don’t believe it can become AGI.

Although, people creating a digital god would be pretty blasphemous. Tough one.

meshugaas··on The AI bubble argument misunderstands both bubbles and AI
A financial bubble has a clear definition. You're just changing the meaning to be a different strawman so you can refute that. Are there lots of companies that are overvalued because of their AI offerings, and will those companies fail when they don't provide acceptable returns? If yes, bubble.
meshugaas··on The AI bubble argument misunderstands both bubbles and AI
> If they're talking about the 2023-2024 "chatbots = rich", that's a bad argument because hardly anyone believes that anymore

Oh yes, this must be why chatbot companies announced $25 billion of new funding last week.

meshugaas··on OpenAI reorg at risk as Attorneys General push AI safety
Really curious how OpenAI becomes a for profit at this rate, and thus gets the majority of that softbank funding.
meshugaas··on GPT-5 Thinking in ChatGPT (a.k.a. Research Goblin) is good at search
These answers take a shockingly long time to resolve considering you can put the questions into Brave search and get basically the same answers in seconds.
meshugaas··on Why language models hallucinate
Look at their stats though. If they did this, more than half of responses would end up as “I don’t know.” Nobody would use something that did that.
meshugaas··on Why Browser Company at $610M is cheap
it’s a dig at this https://techcrunch.com/2025/08/22/coinbase-ceo-explains-why-...
meshugaas··on Atlassian is acquiring The Browser Company
preaching to the choir in absolute terms. in relative terms, if a random feature flag company can be bought for over a billion by an AI company, an AI browser company should be able to be sold for at least that much.
meshugaas··on Atlassian is acquiring The Browser Company
their valuation from last funding in March 2024 was $550m, sold for $610m minus cash on hand. so basically at value...agreed that it's a nice windfall for these folks but relatively bad outcome. When you're building a new browser with AI a year before the trillion dollar AI industry goes bananas for AI browsers and you end up with 600 mil, that feels like an L.
meshugaas··on Linux Foundation's New Banned Words: Hung, Pow-Wow, & Sanity Check
“This guide is intended to encompass inclusive language recommendations for projects”

Interpreting this as “banning words” is genuine idiocy.

meshugaas··on Ask HN: Is building a Google Maps alternative from scratch bad idea?
If you enjoy building it, 10/10 great idea
meshugaas··on Are OpenAI and Anthropic losing money on inference?
exactly: it’s like making shoes if you’re really bad at making shoes :)
meshugaas··on Are OpenAI and Anthropic losing money on inference?
The "model as company" metaphor makes no sense. It should actually be models are products, like a shoe. Nike spends money developing a shoe, then building it, then they sell it, and ideally those R&D costs are made up in shoe sales. But you still have to run the whole company outside of that.

Also, in Nike's case, as they grow they get better at making more shoes for cheaper. LLM model providers tell us that every new model (shoe) costs multiples more than the last one to develop. If they make 2x revenue on training, like he's said, to be profitable they have to either double prices or double users every year, or stop making new models.

meshugaas··on Mark Zuckerberg Shakes Up Meta's A.I. Efforts, Again
Everything he's done was either copied or bought. The guy has never had an original idea in his life.
meshugaas··on I talked to Sam Altman about the GPT-5 launch fiasco
Phew, glad he let us know they had a dinner together. Otherwise might’ve just thought this whole article was made up.
meshugaas··on OpenAI in talks to sell around $6B in stock at roughly $500B valuation
2024 revenue was like $4B. So if your chart ends at 3B then yeah it’s way off
meshugaas··on Ask HN: Will Grok win as it will eventually train on data from Optimus androids?
Grok will lose because they won’t have any customers
meshugaas··on Altman says in 10 years college grads will work well-paid job in space
Really hard to understand why everything he says, which is always ultra vague and has no basis in reality, is reported as legitimate insight.
meshugaas··on Tesla training new FSD model with ~10x params
who cares if you’re right, as long as you’re bringing in the big bucks
meshugaas··on Why So Many Key Institutions Have Folded Rather Than Challenge Trump
We’re in The Dark Knight: American institutions are the mob and Trump is the Joker. Sure, he’s forcing what they want now. But just as quickly he’ll turn on them too…who is the hero we need, but don’t deserve?
meshugaas··on Demis Hassabis AI future:It'll be 10 times bigger than the Industrial Revolution
Wish the journalists would follow up at least once to these kinds of statements with, “ok, how big was the Industrial Revolution?”

Need some semblance of units here to really mean anything.

meshugaas··on Covid Contrarians Are Wrong About Sweden
The article offers good evidence to support its headline. And a good example of proper data literacy
meshugaas··on Ask HN: How you network in NYC as a founder from out of town

California became the 4th largest GDP in the world, among countries, in April. It has not "collapsed".

Also, $1000 on you not living in either California or New York.
