mervz··on Only 2.6% of the most visited websites have fully valid HTML
Legit who cares? It's not stopping people from visiting them
mervz··on Show HN: misa77 - a codec that decodes 2x faster than LZ4 (at better ratios)
how does it compare to macklin71?
mervz··on What it feels like to work with Mythos
We see the same thing when new laptops are announced and every employee all of a sudden needs to upgrade, despite the fact that 90% of people would be able to make do with a Macbook Neo.
mervz··on Elevated errors on Claude.ai, API, Claude Code
I've found my brain is a good alternative.
mervz··on We've raised $17M to build what comes after Git
Yep, something that is sadly becoming more and more common. People with solutions spending insane money trying to convince others that a problem exists.
mervz··on Is anybody else bored of talking about AI?
100% this; GitHub is littered with a bunch of AI shit projects that pollute the trending page.
mervz··on Ask HN: Is Claude Down Again?
Time for all of the cosplaying developers to sit around and twiddle their thumbs.
mervz··on Whistleblower claims ex-DOGE member says he took Social Security data to new job
This coming from the same group of morons crying election fraud without an ounce of proof is amazing.
mervz··on Show HN: Kula – Lightweight, self-contained Linux server monitoring tool
The README was AI generated, that's why.
mervz··on New iPad Air, powered by M4
ok
mervz··on OBS Studio 32.1.0 Beta 1 available
OBS is a great solution if you're on a budget or doing very simple streams, but I really urge anybody who is serious about live streaming professional shows to check out vMix. It's an incredible piece of software that is versatile and packed full of so many features professional broadcasts need all baked in.
mervz··on The Walt Disney Company and OpenAI Partner on Sora
wtf are we doing, man?
mervz··on I wasted years of my life in crypto
100%.

It's similar to AI... the only people trying to tell you "it's the future" are those with financial stakes.

mervz··on Show HN: Pbnj – A minimal, self-hosted pastebin you can deploy in 60 seconds
Crazy that people really need instructions on how to self-host stuff these days... this stuff used to be something most devs could figure out.
mervz··on Django 6.0 beta 1 released
I noticed this in development mode but performance improved substantially in production
mervz··on What I Self Host
You seem to be an extreme outlier and probably not the target audience for such applications. No offense, but nobody is carrying around multiple devices when the one device we all have can do everything and do it better.
mervz··on Hyperflask – Full stack Flask and Htmx framework
It's a dead end for your use case, let's be very clear about that.

And it's funny that you think anything about React and/or Vue is 'trivial'.

mervz··on Are we decentralized yet?
Everything you listed IS centralized, though.
mervz··on Go is still not good
I find Go's type system to be extremely lackluster.
mervz··on Go is still not good
This is a diabolical take
mervz··on Counter-Strike: A billion-dollar game built in a dorm room
Hate it all you want, but it's the sole reason Counter-Strike still exists today. Without skins, Valve would have shut the door on the game (and quite possibly the company entirely).

Skins is literally a money printing machine.

mervz··on Phoenix 1.8.0 Released
Congrats to Chris and the team... truly the best and most fun framework there is!
mervz··on Happy 20th Birthday, Django
I think Phoenix is very close to Django at fitting that bill.
mervz··on Phoenix.new – Remote AI Runtime for Phoenix
This is such a weird thing to say and I see it all of the time. It sucks people have been tricked into thinking a library must be updated every 2 weeks in order to still be relevant.

You think just because an author bumps the version number of a library it's somehow better than a library that is considered complete?

It boggles my mind that people actually think this way.

mervz··on Phoenix 1.8.0-RC Released
This is awesome... congrats to the Phoenix team!

Ever since going all-in on Phoenix/Elixir, I've been so much happier and excited to code.

Coming from Go where it felt like my soul was being drained every single day, it was a major step forward for me to actually enjoy writing code again.

mervz··on A 10x Faster TypeScript
It absolutely is... Go's type system is an abomination.
mervz··on Patterns for Building Realtime Features
I have not enjoyed a language and framework like I'm enjoying Elixir and Phoenix! It has become my stack for just about everything.
mervz··on Building a World of Warcraft Server in Elixir: 2024 Update
I love this and would love to contribute to this in 2025!
mervz··on Bitcoin miner purchases 112-megawatt North Texas wind farm
I don't understand why Texans get so insecure when people rightfully point out the issues with their infrastructure.
mervz··on Writing secure Go code
Meanwhile, error handling still can't get any sort of syntactic sugar
