merqurio··on Ask HN: Tell us about your S2017 startup
Calendar + Social network + Job search; why the three ?

I always wanted an app that by giving it the amount of hours needed to study each class (at home or library) scheduled the whole semester.

merqurio··on Ask HN: Tell us about your S2017 startup
How are you checking the prices? Via API ?
merqurio··on Ask HN: Tell us about your S2017 startup
I've tried to schedule a meeting but it crashed choosing none at cronofy.
merqurio··on Why Dentistry Is Separate from Medicine
I just saw this week an endocarditis due to the lack of dental hygiene. None of us was properly trained to evaluate if the patients teeth were ok. Shame. Dental health is not even available in lot of public health system like the Spainish one. I'll never understand why it's treated differently.
merqurio··on Ask HN: Our first employee decided to leave. What should we ask him?
Thanks ! That's a nice start.

He came to learn and I'd love to show him somehow all he learned. It's a lot and sometimes it's hard to explain it without perspective.

merqurio··on Ask HN: Our first employee decided to leave. What should we ask him?
Sure ! Our doors will be open and we want to make everything as easy as possible. We want him to leave with the best taste of the company.
merqurio··on Ask HN: Which developers do you closely follow?
transcranial - Because he is an MD and works on ML like me - Because he is the guy behind kerasJS (Tensorflow on the browser)[1]

merqurio··on 4% of U.S. Series A Deals Involved Y Combinator Companies in 2016 – Mattermark
How much can an accelerator like YC ease your life as a founder? Isn't it more difficult to raise a series A when the other yc backed companies are your own competition (understanding that being yc backed is a kind of quality control) ? Our experience so far in Europe is that the low number of startups have ease the work of those that are doing their job right, it kind of sucks but they do not compete so much.

merqurio··on DeepMind’s work in 2016: a round-up
They had a vast presence on EWRL, it's really amazing how many effort goes into research. Really inspiring.
merqurio··on Odo: Shapeshifting for your data
I use odo a lot to take any data source into pandas or blaze and it's been great so far. For my it's the lazy and easy way of moving data around.
merqurio··on Inflammation halts fat-burning
I totally agree. Metabolism it's complex and not everything is well understood how is connected. It's difficult to measure and more those little contributions where in aggregate can have an effect.
merqurio··on Inflammation halts fat-burning
It's not a scientific statement on this case, it's what i see as MD. It's just an observation.
merqurio··on Inflammation halts fat-burning
This is something under active research, and it might have some true behind, there are some cases in the hospital where you see people doing diet as they should and not lossing weight at all and at the same time they have some autoimmune condition.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a true connection found in a couple of years between autoimmune conditions and weight in a reciprocal way.

merqurio··on Ask HN: How long did you work on a side project until it was your full time job?
Sure !

There is not a big entrepreneurship culture in general (at least in Spain & Southern France) so starting a startup, learning through others experience, next steps etc.. It's harder.

Also the social pressure is a big reason why entrepreneurship is hard. While in USA, failing and starting over is seen as something natural, in the various Spanish and French communities I have lived is seen as a disaster. Even more in some places is seen as an intent of showing everyone that you are smarter than them so you create your own product/service in stead of working in making better the existing ones. I think it's a cultural thing.

merqurio··on Ask HN: How long did you work on a side project until it was your full time job?
28 months a mean of 2~3h per day. Now It's my full time job and 3rd Start-up. The most time consuming part until now, finding good partners, product definition, market research.

So far so good, but it confirms me that Europe is slower for firing up a project.

merqurio··on Firefox’s latest Test Pilot: No More 404s
Let's see how long until someone claims to the Wayback Machine their right to be forgotten. I really like the idea of ephemerality on the internet. I kind of enjoy to see thing come and go; that nothing lasts forever.
merqurio··on Ask HN: $95,000 .cloud domain names – has the world gone crazy?
126,100€ for med.cloud !!! What's so special about these domain names ?
merqurio··on Spain Runs Out of Workers with Almost 5M Unemployed
Totally agree, i wasn't defending low salaries at all, just sharing my insider experience of the reasons why people is leaving Spain.
merqurio··on Spain Runs Out of Workers with Almost 5M Unemployed
I don't think so.. Most of my friends left Spain looking for better long term opportunities rather than money. Even if our economy (and politicians) sucks, quality of life is pretty high with those salaries.

I think the problem is the polarisation in the population. Very well trained people is leaving the country while non-skilled people remain.

Skilled people do not trust the system therefore they leave as soon as they can.

merqurio··on Crash Course – Educational course videos on YouTube
As Med student, i really enjoyed watching anatomy & physiology course. It's accurate and not over simplified. I have recommend it to a ton of people !
merqurio··on Ask HN: Would you use Tor to connect to your distributed servers?
Thanks tshtf! I will keep learning on Tor before making any decision.

Personally I think it can be great to go with Tor, having a great excuse to support it too.

merqurio··on Ask HN: Would you use Tor to connect to your distributed servers?
Great feedback! A couple of questions as we are new to

* What are the risks of unmasking a hidden Tor

* Planning a schedule to turn on tor will be a good solution for the resiliency problem ?

Thanks !

merqurio··on Ask HN: Would you use Tor to connect to your distributed servers?
Great ! That's a real nice bonus! Is there any security concern we should take into account about having tor running continuously ?

We tested with the instructions in the link above and worked really smoothly. The idea is the to orchestrate all the server with Ansible or Salt via tor SSH

merqurio··on ArangoDB 3.0 Release – A Solid Ground to Scale
That's a pretty cool idea.. Up until know I have used JSON whenever I wanted to use NetworkX. It shouldn't be too complex to connect them.
merqurio··on ArangoDB 3.0 Release – A Solid Ground to Scale
Foxx microservices are the best. I love them
merqurio··on ArangoDB 3.0 Release – A Solid Ground to Scale
We use joowani/python-arango, but I haven't test it with 3.0 yet.
merqurio··on ArangoDB 3.0 Release – A Solid Ground to Scale
Pure curiosity, why do you miss GridFS? I think ArangoDB it already does that, back in time there was journal size setting, I'm not sure if it still has.
merqurio··on ArangoDB 3.0 Release – A Solid Ground to Scale
Great news! We decided a couple of months ago to go with arangoDB, we have built already a 32Gb Graph Database and so far it has performed really well. It's easy to install and great as a first contact on the GraphDB world aside from Neo4J.
merqurio··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (June 2016)
