mellutussa··on Spent brewer's yeast as a biosorbent for metal recovery from polymetallic waste
What do you then do with the contaminated yeast?

How do you prevent it from entering the food chain again?

mellutussa··on Step by Step: Thinking through and beyond the repair manual
Imagine if all our gadgets had a repair manual. Even if it was just schematics and assembly guide. Wow.
mellutussa··on Decline Invitations
What a piece of shitty advice.
mellutussa··on Losing faith in testing
There was this sailor who always did extra knots and shit on his ropes and lines. Because he wanted it to be extra safe.

Then in a storm the ship sank because he couldn't undo that shit quickly enough.

I guess you can tank your software project too by too much or wrong testing.

mellutussa··on Losing faith in testing
> was 100% sure that I know how the code works and that this can’t happen again.

No, no, no and nope.

mellutussa··on Researchers, please replace SQLite with DuckDB now
> Researchers, please replace SQLite with DuckDB now

I really don't like the tone of this article. Author, please change the tone to something more less aggressive.

mellutussa··on TextSnatcher: Copy text from images, for the Linux Desktop
Try https://github.com/ocrmypdf/OCRmyPDF - it uses Tesseract behind the scenes and it absolutely brilliant.
mellutussa··on JIT WireGuard
But why don't use the nice smelling IPSEC if that ticks your boxes?
mellutussa··on Apple announces ability to download apps directly from websites in EU
> How does that count as a "marketplace"?

I'm assuming that Apple is going to profit from that catalogue.

mellutussa··on Ask HN: How much to charge for an API call?
$1 per call.
mellutussa··on Show HN: I made a free animator. Think Adobe Illustrator but for animation
Nice! Feature idea: let me open the demos in the editor.
mellutussa··on Lie-to-children
Lucky you. I just got iterate answers like "it's just the way it is" and "oh it's too advanced and you wouldn't understand it".

Pardon my language, but seriously fuck those teachers. If it's too advanced then at least let me come to the conclusion myself and have something to look forward too.

mellutussa··on Building an Open Source Decentralized E-Book Search Engine
I think a distributed OCR project is needed. Problem is that a lot of books are PDF scans and missing raw text. OcrMyPdf does a pretty good job of is but it's cpu intensive.
mellutussa··on Airbnb is banning indoor security cameras
This is why I can't use AliExpress. Ordering by price+shipping is truly an awful experience. The people in charge of that feature take incompetence to a new level.
mellutussa··on Two scammers, a web of betrayal, and Europe's fraud of the century
I'd love to listen to a podcast about this.

When I saw "fraud of the century" I thought it was the OneCoin scam (Ruja Ignatova, "The Crypto Queen"). BBC did a very detailed investigative podcast about that one: https://www.podbean.com/podcast-detail/uj5nz-a0b8a/The-Missi...

mellutussa··on Context-switching – one of the worst productivity killers
Sadly boss says I have to be signed in and interrupted constantly.

I'd switch work if this wasn't just the status quo.

mellutussa··on Context-switching – one of the worst productivity killers
It's entirely different when you decide solely yourself when to switch.
mellutussa··on Read it never
Keep this in mind when you're writing a landing page for your project.

Way too often I click on an interesting link only to get confused or repulsed by marketing bs.

Also if you want people to engage with your software project, provide clear build instructions. I've aborted many bugfix PRs because while I like your project I'm not willing to waste hours on trying to get it to build.

mellutussa··on U.S. is said to open criminal inquiry into Boeing
We need a negative KPI for parts that fall off and people that die due to negligent shortcuts.
mellutussa··on U.S. is said to open criminal inquiry into Boeing
I have the truck on standby.
mellutussa··on U.S. is said to open criminal inquiry into Boeing
Handy for Boeing if they can just stick it as a criminal act to some low level employees and case closed.
mellutussa··on What Monks Know about Focus
He sums it up and then he confirms it. But yes, he might have missed out a word.

mellutussa··on Show HN: Flyde – an open-source visual programming language
The playground button on the front page https://www.flyde.dev/ links to localhost:3030
mellutussa··on Show HN: Flyde – an open-source visual programming language
Wow, impressive! I also have to congratulate you on the landing page. So often I click on something that I think is interesting only to scroll down in confusion before I close the tab.

I'm definitely going to check this out.

> cassettes are returnable

Of the fraction that gets returned, how many are actually reused? It's black plastic with a shine to it and it'll show scratches easily. Does the factory even have the facilities to clean them out and refurbish them for next use?

mellutussa··on [dead]
I love SSH tunnels, but why use them if you already have a Wireguard connection?

Also, the article is probably written with ShitGPT or equivalent.

mellutussa··on Detect when your installed Chrome extensions have changed owners
If someone is buying your extension with wicked, dark and nefarious intentions, he's gonna want the private key too.

Pretty much everyone is going to agree, with the only individual difference on how much you have to pay.
