Some examples of build quality issues are the metal sheets that are glued on and coming off during driving. As well as accelerator pedals that get stuck.

Not in the US.
mellow-lake-day··on Musk-Trump dispute includes threats to SpaceX contracts
Yes, it's quite disingenuous to say that USA is engaged a proxy war. Ukraine has military support from other countries but they are the ones making decisions at the end of day.

For example Ukraine just carried out a complex drone attack on Russia's bomber fleet, this was careful planned by Ukrainian miliary without any involvement of the US and US was not informed of this ahead of time. And after the fact USA got upset with Ukraine for doing that.

mellow-lake-day··on Musk-Trump dispute includes threats to SpaceX contracts
Ukraine is fighting a Russian invasion. And republicans are pressuring Ukraine to give up. How is that a proxy war?
mellow-lake-day··on Musk-Trump dispute includes threats to SpaceX contracts
>with whom the USA is currently engaged in a proxy war?

USA isn't currently engaged a proxy war with Russia

mellow-lake-day··on Workers are stuck in place because everyone is too afraid of a recession to quit
Not TSMC

> One big problem is that TSMC has been trying to do things the Taiwanese way, even in the U.S. In Taiwan, TSMC is known for extremely rigorous working conditions, including 12-hour work days that extend into the weekends and calling employees into work in the middle of the night for emergencies. TSMC managers in Taiwan are also known to use harsh treatment and threaten workers with being fired for relatively minor failures.

> TSMC quickly learned that such practices won’t work in the U.S. Recent reports indicated that the company’s labor force in Arizona is leaving the new plant over these perceived abuses, and TSMC is struggling to fill those vacancies. TSMC is already heavily dependent on employees brought over from Taiwan, with almost half of its current 2,200 employees in Phoenix coming over as Taiwanese transplants.

mellow-lake-day··on Reverse engineering Ticketmaster's rotating barcodes
Not sure why you are saying Taylor Swift's fans are 12 year olds because they aren't. The average age of a Taylor Swift fan is closer to 30.

And because of Taylor Swift there is now a DOJ investigation of ticketmaster. Taylor Swift is not on the side of ticketmaster like you are conspiracizing.

Not sure if it's stupidity on Russia's part or deliberately using civilians as cover in temporality occupied Crimea but it's not the first time Russia has placed military hardware near public beaches:

https://x.com/auto_glam/status/1804869425092313124

And as you highlighted this is Russia's own doing, as the damage was from its own air defense missiles

The ATACMS missiles that Ukraine is getting are soon to be expired because they are reaching their end of life (of course they are still in production but it shows these are not the current generation)

The current generation missiles "PrSMs" have not been given to Ukraine

The M777 howitzers are from 40 years ago

The stinger missiles have been used in the Afghanistan war

Even the F-16 planes are from 30 years ago

And Patriot air defense systems are several decades old

So it is fair to say that Ukraine has been using mostly older weapons

mellow-lake-day··on We're ending our Samsung collaboration
>Edit: also three colleagues bought iPhone 15 Pro phones this time round after Samsung last time. Don’t know what happened there but you don’t make a switch like that unless you dislike what you had that bad.

Samsung got rid of all the things that made their devices different (micro sd card, headphone jack, MST, IR blaster, etc) and then changed the design of the phone to look more like an iPhone. Software also has been moving that direction. There's nothing special or unique with main Samsung flagship phones anymore (with exception of s-pen and folding phones). So by jumping to Apple you aren't losing much in terms of hardware if anything.

On the other hand iPhone have been adding more customization features things like widgets on the home screen and allowing to change the defaults to make it more like Android.

There is 0 compelling evidence to support such claims (that Russia won in their invasion of Ukraine) in that article

>Marc Polonsky is a retired partner of an international law firm. His practice focussed on investment in the Russian hydrocarbons and infrastructure sectors.

The author has personal investment in Russia it seems which explains the article. This is more of a wanting to see Russia win than anything else.

>Kiev’s

Inability or explicitly going out the way to not to spell Kyiv correctly and having 0 perspective or input from Ukraine shows that is nothing more than a propaganda piece.

Soviet Union*

Which is more than just Russia

Ukraine, Belarus, etc are significant contributors and bore some of the heavy causalities

Another part of the reason why invading Ukraine was dumb, Russia forgot what Ukraine was capable of. Attributing all of its success to itself but discounting its partners.

mellow-lake-day··on Intel discloses $7B operating loss for chip-making unit
Russia has resorted to selling oil to North Korea because they no one else will buy it. That is isolation.

Russia is also working to remove Taliban from list of terrorist states.

These are Russia's "friends".

But isolation here also applies in political sense. There is no political support for Russia's invasion from the rest of the world. Even China has not approved the invasion.

mellow-lake-day··on Intel discloses $7B operating loss for chip-making unit
Invading Ukraine fucked Russia

Even if Russia could make their own chips invading Ukraine would still be a very bad idea and has completely dragged down Russian future prospects. They have isolated themselves on the world stage.

mellow-lake-day··on How to copy a file between devices? (2022)
It's ok but it won't let you copy multiple files at once on Windows
mellow-lake-day··on The Magic of the Blackboard
I disagree. Based on my uni experience classes with handouts and pdf files was where I learned the best. The problem with blackboard is that professors go faster than you copy and it ends up being that spend all your time trying to copy everything that you don't have time to even listen to the words that they are saying. And when you try to review the scribbles in your notebook it's hard to understand anything. A good set of slides with examples and annotations goes a long way. And to this day I have slides I saved that I still refer to.
