meitham··on Linus Torvalds Expresses His Hatred for Case-Insensitive File-Systems
I grew to like case insensitive dbms like SQLServer as it makes me think less about casing when I write queries, but always wondered if that comes at cost of performance!
meitham··on NASA says this enormous construction in China is slowing down Earth
Life’s too short already, let’s slow it down to 25 hours a day
meitham··on Pytest for Neovim
Very nice! Congrats on your release!
meitham··on Music and the Decline of Civilization
I agree there were always be examples like that, but my point is kids hardly had any exposure to these, whereas kids feel entitled to listen to explicit music nowadays and when you try as a parent to enforce rules everyone else seem to say "it's okay, all kids do that", it's never okay to let kids watch or listen to these explicit Nicky Minaj or Dojo Cat songs, and I will always speak against it.
meitham··on Music and the Decline of Civilization
isn't that the defintion of decline? when every generation see morales falling slowly one generation a time?
meitham··on Music and the Decline of Civilization
As a father of young teens I find some of the music quite disturbing and borderline soft porn. Music in the 70s/80s were more about romance, today is more about sex and drugs. I agree with article about the correlation between society in decline and I see the nature of music as one of the signals.

That’s the spirit!
meitham··on The Origin of the Pork Taboo
git fork -> rebase -> cherry pick/unpick few commits etc
meitham··on The Origin of the Pork Taboo
The Quran hints on that similarity in a verse about punishing people by converting them to pigs and apes. Though this is not given as a reason of why pork is forbidden, but Islam places itself as a continuation of Abrahamic religion of Judaism and Christianity so most rules are kept and followed.
meitham··on Meta puts stop on promotion of tell-all book by former employee
I too am going to buy one and read, but genuinely curious what made you support Mark in the beginning of Facebook? Wasn’t he always known as a douchebag even in his university days?
meitham··on I hacked my company's SSO provider
I wish the article provided the name of the vendor!
meitham··on My legal last name prevents me from completing my Twitch affiliate onboarding
There’re few people on LinkedIn named “Swapnil Dev”! Amazingly all work in IT! That’s swap, nil and dev in one’s name. Such a cool name!
meitham··on Ladder: Self-improving LLMs through recursive problem decomposition
Oh god, I’m genuinely happy I didn’t google this book before bedtime. I hope the misery life will throw at me today will be bad enough to wipe the memory of what I read before I go to sleep tonight!
meitham··on Ladder: Self-improving LLMs through recursive problem decomposition
Glad I missed it before bedtime! Watched it in the morning, absolutely spot on, thank you! We’re doomed indeed.
meitham··on Ladder: Self-improving LLMs through recursive problem decomposition
I’ll take an organic enemy over an immortal, never-forgetting hive-mind machine any day

EDIT: this is getting dark, I asked Qwen2.5Max to verify my grammer and it responded with "I’d rather face a squishy, disorganized human villain any day than a hive-mind AI that never sleeps, never forgets, and is definitely plotting my demise in its silent, circuit-board heart. "

meitham··on Ladder: Self-improving LLMs through recursive problem decomposition
I'm shutting down my computers before I sleep tonight ...
meitham··on Bcvi – run vi over a 'back-channel' (2010)
As a vimmer I whole heartedly agree, there’re aspects of Emacs that’s very hard to argue against, another one is the client server model

>>> asking positively, with a smile on my face

Responding with unexplained fear in my heart, we’re just getting closer to Skynet!

meitham··on Delta Chat – Email Based PGP Encrypted Chat
The whole purpose of using a distributed IM like Delta Chat is to break free from big data leeches like Google. If you're just using Delta Chat with a centralized Gmail server as the backend, doesn’t that defeat the point?
meitham··on Delta Chat – Email Based PGP Encrypted Chat
For those unaware, this was created by Holger Krekel, the brain behind pypy and pytest! Another great product.
meitham··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
This is what you get when you put two former TV personalities in public offices and have them argue their cases in front of cameras , diplomacy takes a back seat and their ego and posture become the main focus

>>> Ukraine isn’t in NATO

Ukraine’s potential NATO membership is one of Russia’s main demands for ending the war. Additionally, Ukraine participated in the coalition that invaded Iraq in 2003.

meitham··on Waterfox: Fast and Private Web Browser
Thanks for keeping Waterfox alive despite Mozilla's hurdles. The feature list is great, exactly what people need when looking for a Firefox alternative. Putting it on the homepage would help a lot. Appreciate your work!
meitham··on Waterfox: Fast and Private Web Browser
You're absolutely right but attribution is still the core issue here. I clicked on the page because it seemed like a promising alternative to Firefox, and I expected the focus to be on how it differs from Firefox. Instead, I was surprised to see Firefox completely ignored, especially when the project is clearly built on its foundation and even borrows part of its name. It feels like a missed opportunity to acknowledge the very platform that made Waterfox possible in the first place. Transparency and credit matter, especially in open-source projects.
meitham··on Waterfox: Fast and Private Web Browser
I really enjoy seeing new projects, especially now with Mozilla's updated TOS, but this project's page really bothers me!

Why include a feature comparison table with browsers like Chrome and Edge, but leave out Firefox? Your project is built on Firefox, and you even borrowed half of its name. Attribution matters. If Mozilla were to shut down Firefox and all its users left, would Waterfox even survive?

meitham··on uBlock Origin dead for many as Google purges Manifest v2 extensions
Alternative title: Chrome is dead. Reads happier to me
meitham··on Y Combinator deletes posts after a startup's demo goes viral
In the UK and most of the west this is unethical but there is no explicit law that makes it illegal, curious what country you are from that deems this illegal?
meitham··on Vim after Bram: a core maintainer on how they've kept it going
I'm not sure admins of old mainframes from the 80s would be interested in getting latest vim running on their hosts! I still use whatever old version of vim that came with my freenas.
meitham··on Vim after Bram: a core maintainer on how they've kept it going
I love vim and I’m happy Chris stepped in to save the project, his vim CSV plugin is something I use daily. Though I really hope vim and neovim merge, I don’t see a reason for the two projects to stay separate.
meitham··on Show HN: Uscope, a new Linux debugger written from scratch
