Lego works because it is so versatile.

megaremote··on Seeing red: Why cars are killing more people
> Yeah most cities are removing red light cameras, it's been universally accepted as a failed experiment.

This is bullshit. People just don't like them. People don't like having to stop at yellow lights, including the people setting the laws.

megaremote··on Seeing red: Why cars are killing more people
> Haven't red light cameras been linked to increases in accidents?

An increase in minor accidents, and decrease in major accidents involving death, which is exactly what you want.

megaremote··on Android 10
> Apple does also cut features when they roll out those updates though. Not all iOS versions are equal.

Only when the hardware does not support the features.

megaremote··on Traffic apps turned L.A.’s neighborhoods into ”shortcuts”
How did you imagine it worked?
megaremote··on Traffic apps turned L.A.’s neighborhoods into ”shortcuts”
This is partly because drivers aren't actually paying there way, and are subsidised by others a ridiculous amount.
megaremote··on Traffic apps turned L.A.’s neighborhoods into ”shortcuts”
I guess you bare no responsibility for blindly following google? Ridiculous that we just accept people driving these dangerous 2 tonne vehicles everywhere for their own selfish reasons.

I don't understand? Walking a dog is not a fulltime job. Not sure how you could work, and still not have time to walk a dog?
megaremote··on China squandered its chance to build a home-grown semiconductor industry
> just because China is not a major player in the semiconductor industry today, doesn't the CCP is not placing its state resources (both state financial backing [1] and the industrial espionage kind [2][3][4][5]) to try and incubate a semiconductor industry

Did anyone ever think that?

megaremote··on Apple expands parts access to more independent repair businesses
> If you pay $149 to get your iPhone 8 screen replaced, but Apple charges us $135 for the screen, we can't realistically make any money off of that.

I mean, ok. Doesn't that just mean you aren't charging enough? Is apple charging you a percent of what you charge?

You wanted to play the game, but didn't care to lookup the rules.
megaremote··on China’s CCTV network took just 7 minutes to capture BBC reporter (2017)
> The BBC willingly plays along and does not even question the capabilities either way.

What should they do? Not run the story? It is of interest, it is scary to a lot of people. It does also warn people wanting to hide from it.

Should no one talk about this technology, or China's current capabilities? Do you think that would be better?

megaremote··on Harvard Student Says He Was Barred From U.S. Over Friends’ Social Media Posts
Shame, it is a wonderful place with wonderful people in it. So is Canada, who gave me grief last time I went there. Still worth it.

For me: Running, Cycling (around different places), sailing, creating apps, creating games, creating AI models.

It is not just that, growth in fast food has been stagnant for a while now. Anything new they are looking to adopt in a hope to change that. And they will all jump in in case that new thing does have a big growth effect.

Ebay grew by $200m, shopify by $500m.
megaremote··on Apple's petition against RED
It can only mean lossy. It makes no sense to talk about visually lossless if it is exactly the same image.
megaremote··on Manufacturers want to quit China for Vietnam, but find it impossible
> That kind of development can't be replicated in a few years, is likely out of reach for smaller nations (read anyone except India) or viable in a geographically distributed fashion.

Vietnam started a long time ago. And it doesn't have to replace China, just part of the manufacturing process.

megaremote··on Germany for First Time Sells 30-Year Bonds Offering Negative Yields
> I could just hold on to my money, "keep it under my mattress" and still make a better ROI than bonds with negative yields. Why would anybody buy these bonds?

You think you would do that for millions and billions?

megaremote··on WeWork Isn’t a Tech Company
Cool, so it doesn't really matter.
megaremote··on WeWork Isn’t a Tech Company
Why? Who cares whether something is a tech company or not? How does that change the conversation? Is it no longer a startup?

There are enough things wrong with wework that this is just muddying the issue.

megaremote··on WeWork Isn’t a Tech Company

megaremote··on Open letter from an Android developer to the Google Play team
Apple have also gotten rejection happy. But the good thing with Apple, is that they have a team of people, who will tell you why, and help you fix your issues. I have had those guys help me track down bugs, and suggest UI fixes.

Apple have gotten better, and it seems Google have gotten worse.
