meerita··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
I was asking myself the same question. Multibillion dollar business, but paid by pennies.
meerita··on Rust 1.99.0
I'm super interested in testing this: Rust 1.99 moves rustc to LLVM 23.
meerita··on Sudo – A dedicated music player designed around listening to music
One the picture depicts a really fat device. Feels like you will have a brick in your hand.
meerita··on ParadeDB Search Performance Improvements
Massive respect for ParadeDB for seeing a benchmark where they were 8x slower, taking it as an engineering challenge instead of making excuses, profiling the hell out of it, fixing the actual bottlenecks, and publishing everything they learned along the way.

This is what healthy engineering competition looks like.

meerita··on MTV Didn't Die of Bad Taste: It Died the Day the Doors Multiplied
MTV died because Youtube came out. That was the nail in the coffin.
meerita··on Why the Bronze Age Collapsed
The good thing about the accounts, it's their biased views about Spain were clear. That's why I like them. There was no unified feeling, and they were enemies in many cases. That's why the accounts offer a better view.
meerita··on Why the Bronze Age Collapsed
Including is not the same as reading the whole source. Authors love cherry pick. Better to read the whole thing from the actors who were there: Bernal Díaz del Castillo, Orellana, etc.
meerita··on Why the Bronze Age Collapsed
Maybe you should read the accounts of the Spanish and Portuguese that narrated the facts. The accounts are not pro-spanish.
meerita··on LinkedIn Larpmaxxing
Who really goes to Linkedin to get useful info? That's why I am in Hacker News.
meerita··on Apple in Colour. In an age of beige, Apple went all in on colour
I owned the Power Mac G4 Cube, but the iMac G3 in Blue was one of the computers I really loved both aesthetically and performance in the office. Previous to that I was using several expensive macs 9600/300 was the the last workstation I used before the G era. When I left the company, I asked if I could take away the G3 iMac.
meerita··on Coding is not solved
Although the article was written by a human and looks full of logical arguments, most of them are not. They're purely emotional arguments:

> "You can create a full spec upfront." If you're that naive, I know a guy in a white van who gives out free ice cream! Let me guess, you also believe software estimates are accurate and Santa is real.

These doomer articles just make AI development even more popular: https://www.minid.net/2026/9/18/three-plus-ones-and-a-prayer

meerita··on Improving site performance by shipping more CSS
And it's specially easy for the case of CSS: less CSS, more faster.
meerita··on Improving site performance by shipping more CSS
The beauty of functional CSS is that you can progressively transform everything. GitHub runs on entire modularized codebase, they can clean up the entire codebase within weeks, days if they use agents and see the effects of performance instantly.
meerita··on Improving site performance by shipping more CSS
I don't know how they perceive the performance. I see 41 network requests. That's 2.1 MB of CSS over the wire, blocking rendering and hurting painting and loading speed. There's 400 KB of Tailwind, 87 KB of general CSS, plus another 200 KB of other general CSS. They need to embrace functional CSS properly. I'm sure they could have a single CSS file under 80 KB that renders everything.
meerita··on What About Rails?
Sorry, but I need to know what makes Rust+Axum non-niche for ecommerce/CRUD.
meerita··on What About Rails?
Well, you have these:

- Rust: Axum, Actix Web

- Go: net/http + Chi, Echo

- C#: ASP.NET Core

- Java/Kotlin: Spring Boot 4, Quarkus

- Elixir: Phoenix

- TypeScript: Fastify, NestJS

- Python: FastAPI, Django

meerita··on What About Rails?
I don't know the expiration date of all software, I only know all software has some expiration date. Maybe that version you're using will not be usable in the next 5 years, and it will prove my point. That doesn't mean you cannot use it anymore, it means better options took over.
meerita··on What About Rails?
Every piece of software has an expiration date. You can extend its lifespan, but technology keeps moving. What was considered standard on the backend five years ago may look completely different today. I think that's a good thing. Rails worked extremely well for its time, especially around 2007–2015, but it started to show its age as newer, more capable languages and runtimes matured.

We should be celebrating the fact that we can now port almost anything with far less effort, or modernize an existing stack to meet today's performance expectations, requirements, and engineering standards.

meerita··on I am done with this shit
They will have really hard to prove that.
meerita··on I am done with this shit
Unless you're building the next OpenAI or Google, I wouldn't care HR and lawyers. But it is always wise to work on personal stuff on your free time, personal computers, etc.
meerita··on Grammarly will send unhinged messages to all your users if you try to cancel
All the LLMs. Both commercial and open. If you know how to setup the style, rules, you can outmatch any Grammarly setting.
meerita··on I am done with this shit
I crafted my own /investigate skill. Think of it as a version of /grill-me where you propose an investigation and dig into it until you come up with a spec backed by evidence.

My investigation skill can create one, two, or dozens of probes with benchmarks. Once you're confident in the solution, you can plan and author the investigation, then execute it phase by phase.

- GitHub repo with examples of skills and rules. https://github.com/meerita/monorepo-nextjs-golang-rust-pytho...

meerita··on I am done with this shit
I wonder if having a good account plan, a good ruleset, and a nice graph of the entire platform would give me tremendous leverage with companies like that. Nothing beats a swarm of agents checking everything, running multiple probes, and finding the best solution for every problem, including generating all the questions stakeholders need to answer before proceeding.

I believe I would end up enjoying life more while everything gets solved through agentic development.

If I compare this with my previous companies (publicly valued companies), I would definitely be on vacation while still delivering perfect PRs and features in a matter of hours, instead of the 2-3 week timelines it took me and my team in the past.

meerita··on Grammarly will send unhinged messages to all your users if you try to cancel
If you build a nice writing guideline, you can impersonate Mark Twain if you want with any model.
meerita··on Grammarly will send unhinged messages to all your users if you try to cancel
Grammarly was a great idea in the pre-AI era. Now I bet they're losing a lot with so many AI solutions that are better integrated across every ecosystem.

Some people will argue that Grammarly still has a better suggestion system, but models have become increasingly good at writing. I think this product and its revenue model will become obsolete pretty soon.

meerita··on Claude Opus 5.5
I tested it with Claude Code, and I can confirm it's way cheaper, better, faster and less verbose than Opus 5.
meerita··on Claude Opus 5.5
The current tests confirms Opus 5.5 is not verbose. In fact, it outputs using ASD-STEM100 as I recommend. It's a blessing.
meerita··on Claude Opus 5.5
Compared to Opus 5, and others, I also found DeepSeek 4.1 Max to be really good and cheap. I am testing right now with Opus 5.5 and I feel it way cheaper than Opus 5!
meerita··on Microsoft killed FoxPro in 2007. Anyway, here's FoxPro revived
My father built several projects in FoxPro. I was too young in the ’90s to remember much of it, but I’m sure he’ll be super happy to check this out. The kicker is that we’ll probably need to buy a floppy disk drive and dust off some old boxes to find them.
meerita··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
OpenAI, Antrophic and others are operating with 80% margins. They can lower the prices for a long while.
