mebr··on Computer Vision and the CCPA: What You Need to Know
Very timely, I have been trying to learn more about what the new privacy laws mean for small saas startups. I wish there were more info on this for startups.
mebr··on Is there any RGBD photo format yet? (Image+Depth)
The most common format currently probably is jpeg, with the depth data stored in the metadata.
mebr··on Ask HN: Salary offer significantly lower than consulting arrangement
I would definitely ask for $120k, or even 10k more. The cost of replacing you is going to be higher if you have worked almost a year with them and contributed to their code base. The fact is that you should be selfish, they will not give it a second thought if for whatever reason they decide to let you go. You can ask for a sign on bonus, if they don't want to have a larger salary on the paper (say they want to show their burn rate is low).
mebr··on Super Trees
The title does not do justice to the content. This is a superb article, it explains why these 3 trees are so special and can help fighting the climate change.
mebr··on Learning at work is work, and we must make space for it
I have also been working remotely for multiple years now. Since I started taking learning new things as part of the work, I can say my efficiency has increased drastically. That has added value to myself and companies I have worked for.
mebr··on Using machine learning to choose compression algorithms

This is using machine learning to predict on the given heterogeneous tabular data which compression algorithm will yield a higher compression rate.

There are multiple other ways to do this approximation.
