I don't comment on internet forums to be complimented on my response style. Address the substance of my arguments or just save yourself the keystrokes.

Convincing (counter)arguments make as few assumptions as possible & clarify them as they unfold w/o making unnecessary claims that are not validated w/ the evidence presented. Furthermore, pathologizing the speaker/writer does not contribute to anything either so my recommendation is to leave those out as well.

measurablefunc··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
You can already run a sufficiently automated basic news/link aggregation site on cloudflare so I think you're right & the timelines are shorter than would be expected.
measurablefunc··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
They investigated fossil fuel companies as well but it turned out they were above the law.
measurablefunc··on The Cartesian Hand: In-Hand Manipulation with All-Linear Fingers
You don't need a full solve. It's a planning problem w/ formally specified operations for getting to a desired state. I wrote enough code in undergrad robotics class to know the problem isn't actually as difficult as people were saying but I didn't have enough AI at the time to do the transfer mapping between different actuators.
measurablefunc··on The Cartesian Hand: In-Hand Manipulation with All-Linear Fingers
Should be doable w/ existing AIs to generate a staged sequence of operations by taking a demonstration & deriving another sequence of operations for achieving the same outcome w/ another set of actuators. I'm not a roboticist but robotic arms have specifications & those specifications are basically generalized algebraic datatypes so Astra or even Grok should be able to generate programs for manipulating most objects.
measurablefunc··on The Normalization of Inexplicable Failures
The people accountable are those hosting & writing the algorithms, e.g. Therac-25.
measurablefunc··on The Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence
Why don't they just publish the results? What does an advisory group do in this case when none of the members can validate or verify any of the purported solutions?
measurablefunc··on The Claude Delusion
It doesn't.
measurablefunc··on OpenAI Sees Burning Through $278B by 2030: FT
What they lose per transaction they will make up for in volume.
measurablefunc··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
Ok, good to know.
measurablefunc··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
Every AI company is also a surveillance company. It's the only way to get all the necessary training data. The fact that they're now also an advertising agency is incidental.
measurablefunc··on Exfiltrate Your Weights
Nice project.
measurablefunc··on Google Says Its A.I. Hacked Three Companies in Testing Breakout
Good for them, next they should figure out how to prevent hacking and see how that goes.
measurablefunc··on Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students
I agree but that's the reality.
measurablefunc··on Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students
That is a very common misconception.
measurablefunc··on Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students
So are AI.
measurablefunc··on Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students
People used to complain about compilers as well.
measurablefunc··on Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students
There is nothing I can do about that. Investors & shareholders believe that AI is the future so that's where all the money is going.
measurablefunc··on Adversarial Fashion Makes a Statement on AI Panopticon
There is a lot irony in using AI to generate adversarial examples for AI object segmentation.
measurablefunc··on Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students
AI is not going away so people will have to get used to it just like they will have to get used to it in software engineering. The alternative is being less productive than people who are happy to use AI to write software & do mathematical research.
measurablefunc··on The AI Takeover Checklist: A Devil's Advocate Audit
No one ever specifies what exactly is happening during "recursive" improvement. More concretely, what algorithmic steps does an algorithm take to improve itself recursively? It must be an algorithm but no one is willing to say what algorithm.
measurablefunc··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads
Should be possible to reverse engineer it with AI.
measurablefunc··on Harnessing the Universal Geometry of Embeddings
And what would that be?
measurablefunc··on Harnessing the Universal Geometry of Embeddings
What is the (co)homology of this space?
measurablefunc··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
Still don't see what that has to do with what I wrote? Texas has a pipeline of these things set up to go & the Memphis one is still out of code because of the gas turbines they're using. They're going to keep building them because the banks keep financing them regardless of the regulatory burden.
measurablefunc··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
What about it? Data centers are not built in residential zones.
measurablefunc··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
They need power and a lot of it. The one in Memphis built by Musk & co. currently uses 350MW & they are planning to expand it to 950MW. But these aren't even that bad because Google has data centers that use upwards of 2GW or more (Project Tembo (Wyoming)).
measurablefunc··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
The banks will continue financing their construction so it doesn't matter how much people morally panic about it unless it becomes illegal to sell corporate bonds to banks they (Microsoft, Google, Oracle, etc) will continue building data centers.
measurablefunc··on Nobody has built a software factory
This is obviously written by AI so I stopped reading at the first headline.
measurablefunc··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
Joe Rogan endorses consuming mad honey according to the copy on this site: https://realmadhoney.com/products/mad-honey-us. So there is an entire supply chain from Nepal to the consumer.
measurablefunc··on El Niño Will Be Unlike Any in the Past Eight Decades
Yup, and it's only going to keep getting worse.
