meagain20000··on Google confirms next Android won’t implement Oracle's proprietary Java APIs
Ok, so I think I'm half way there. Is passing a function pointer, or any pointer for that matter, the way it is done in C, related to lambdas?

I understand the use case of passing functions. Can be quite useful. Ok, still not fully there but I think I'm starting to understand what you are talking about.

meagain20000··on The Same Pill That Costs $1,000 in America Sells for $4 in India
You mean if india started doing their own research? Well of course, we the general population would benefit. Nobody is stopping them. Except maybe cost.

Please explain it like I'm five: what is the big deal about lamdas?
meagain20000··on 2015: The year that Microsoft started getting the benefit of the doubt
I would not happily return to them. In fact, I see no reason why. To me, they are still in their same embrace, extend, extinguish mode only that now their cycle is a lot longer. It could even be that nadella really thinks that he will always be in the embrace and extend phase. My gut feeling is that as soon as it becomes hugely beneficial to them somebody within the company will advocate for the extinguish phase. Don't trust Microsoft. It is in their DNA to screw you.

meagain20000··on The Ivy League, Mental Illness, and the Meaning of Life (2014)
I went to a CC in manhattan then to SUNY at Buffalo. At the CC I studied calculus, physics, chemistry, linear algebra, diff equations. I still think the education I got at the CC was better. The teachers were certainly better teachers.

You didn't really answer the question.

You can never have enough cpu power in gaming. You can always use more. The faster computers get, the more interesting games can get.
meagain20000··on Putting meditation to the test (2011)
Devil's advocate here. Lots people say the same thing about religion. In fact, you could almost replace meditation with religion in your comment. Quite illuminating.

Lime is a source of C, which you need if you want to stay alive.

Maybe with current technology. But as technology continues to advance things will continue to get cheaper. What costs a trillion dollars today could cost a couple billion dollars in a not so distant future

Still to this day I do not get the big deal about lambdas. Can someone please explain?

Hear, Hear! A Java fan here.

It is actually not a bad language and with an IDE like Eclipse or inteliJ you can be quite productive. Sure, they've screwed up majorly a couple of times like inventing JSP and going a bit overboard with J2EE. Overall it is not bad.

It is naive not to be cynical. You'll be taken advantage of otherwise.

meagain20000··on Will China Protect Kim Jong Un from International Justice?
Didn't read what he was saying. But free speech does not shield you from the consequences from other people i.e I can certainly censor him in my home. The USA government cannot censor him of course, up to a certain point. The government can censor your free speech if it consists of you yelling fire in a crowded movie theater, or so the theory goes. Trump getting a Yuuuuuuge amount of hate from the people is part of their right to free speech.
