mdolah··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025)
Recently, I upgraded some parts on my PC and started tinkering around with building a tool to show hardware metrics

https://github.com/MahmoudDolah/linux_hwinfo64 https://pypi.org/project/linux-hwinfo64/#description

I started out by copying features of HWINFO64 (which does not run on Linux). I'll probably keep hacking on this for a bit. It's been interesting to dig deeper into how hardware and software interface

Love this historical find. How did you find this relevant conversation? Was this something with HN search?
mdolah··on Ask HN: What websites simply make you happy to visit?
Huh interesting Yeah this was a page that I bookmarked as it used to just be a list of named decepticons from the different transformers eras Here's a link from the wayback machine https://web.archive.org/web/20190731000059/https://en.wikipe...

As silly as it sounds, I'll browse the wikipedia page for "list of decepticons" Often, I'll name various drives / devices on my home network after them, but it's just fun to see the names that the creators came up with

mdolah··on Ask HN: How have you turned a rejection into an offer?
I've never been able to convince a place to hire me after being rejected, but I have been contacted by companies some time later to interview again if I got far in the process.

Specifically, this happened to me when the candidate that got hired actually got promoted so the position opened up again, but by that time, I had already gotten a new job, so I turned it down

I had similar issues with my web browser and found out it wasn’t the graphics card, but a bad WiFi driver I ran the following command that I got from the below support page and haven’t seen any issues since

sudo apt remove backport-iwlwifi-dkms
