mderazon··on ICJ orders Israel to prevent genocide in Gaza, stops short of ordering ceasefire
There's 0 chance of Putin get arrested if he lands in SA. This is international law summarized in one sentence
mderazon··on Chrome experimental AI features
I was excited to test it on my pixel 7 just to find out it's only available on Pixel 8. Why?....
mderazon··on Mozilla's new Firefox Linux package for Ubuntu and Debian derivatives
How's your experience with Firefox in ChromeOS compared to Chrome ? Doesn't it feel second class ?
mderazon··on Meta now lets EU users unlink their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram accounts
I don't know. The web is pretty unbearable here in the EU due to the cookies consent.

Even more, many times I find myself wondering why a site is not responsive to my clicks just to find out there's some hidden cookie consent that didn't fire up properly and now I have to inspect the DOM to remove it manually.

mderazon··on Meta now lets EU users unlink their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram accounts
Also lately, getting the newest LLMs features much later than the rest of the world, or not getting them at all
mderazon··on 30% of Portuguese people between the ages of 15 and 39 have left the country
I think the mass exodus happened before the digital nomad trend. Specifically after the 2008 crisis. At least that's what I hear from Portuguese people
mderazon··on How does Stripe do date-based API versioning?
Smart approach, writing their own DSL for version change and applying them backwards for each request.

I wish they would open source this

mderazon··on Do It Yourself Blind Repair
Wow this is amazing. This is what the internet should be like
mderazon··on XPath Scraping with FreshRSS
I've been using "Feed me up Scotty"[1] in combination with GitHub Actions (free) to periodically fetch and build my RSS feeds.

The only part that is still inconvenient is creating these xpaths which requires some trial and error.

mderazon··on Mailflare – Create Email Addresses with Cloudflare Email Routing
Browser extension that allows you to easily create email addresses in your domains for free using Cloudflare's Email Routing feature https://www.cloudflare.com/developer-platform/email-routing/
mderazon··on Stirling-PDF: local web application to perform various operations on PDFs
I'm looking for a tool other than adobe pdf reader that lets me upload an image file of my signature to sign a pdf. Most of the tools I found let me draw a signature and I can't draw my signature on a track pad or with the mouse
mderazon··on Did English ever have a formal version of "you"? (2011)
I am learning European Portuguese, which very much still has formal vs informal and interestingly, using Você (formal singular second person) can actually be insulting, as I think it means you think the other person is old.

So they drop the Você but still use the formal verb conjugation.

Navigating cultural language rules can be hard...

mderazon··on Did English ever have a formal version of "you"? (2011)
In European Portuguese the two forms are still equally used
mderazon··on Did English ever have a formal version of "you"? (2011)
Wouldn't you always need to think a little on how to engage with formal vs informal even if the language didn't have it built in ? I wouldn't address a child the same as a stranger or a boss even in English
mderazon··on Show HN: Heynote – A dedicated scratchpad for developers
This is awesome. Consider fitting in as a browser extension so that when you open a new tab this comes up
mderazon··on How to turn off Google's "privacy sandbox" ad tracking, and why you should
I don't compare it to Google's because it's hidden and not readily accessible like Chromium's version therefore I didn't consider them equal.

The part that has been requested is to make them accessible and first class and not tucked in behind screens that look like internal "power user" screens

mderazon··on How to turn off Google's "privacy sandbox" ad tracking, and why you should
I know about this actually, but it's tucked in where none can find it and not really the same visibility as Chrome profiles and easily switchable
mderazon··on How to turn off Google's "privacy sandbox" ad tracking, and why you should
Android version on a PC is not a good experience. The Linux Firefox is installable on ChromeOs but takes a lot of time to load and feels second class
mderazon··on How to turn off Google's "privacy sandbox" ad tracking, and why you should
Only thing keeping me out of using Firefox is the lack of multiple profile (one for work and one for personal). I know containers exist, it's not the same (they share extensions for example). It has been requested for many years but they think containers is the way to go which I disagree (or at least think it's not enough)
mderazon··on How to turn off Google's "privacy sandbox" ad tracking, and why you should
When I first saw this I was really confused about what to do as it seemed I was turning privacy off by turning these off. The use of the term privacy with this feature is confusing
mderazon··on How to turn off Google's "privacy sandbox" ad tracking, and why you should
I really wish other browsers were supported natively in ChromeOS as I really like the OS but would prefer to use Firefox
mderazon··on Google Promises Unlimited Storage; Cancels; Tells Journalist Life's Work Deleted
I've been looking for a solution to backup Google Takeout periodically to Back laze. Can rclone be used with Google Takeout ?
mderazon··on Kagi Search – Paywalled articles indicator and improved weather widget
For me, Chatgpt / Bard and similar (Perplexity) has replaced 85 percent of Google searches so I feel Kagi will be a step backwards in this regard

Perhaps better than Google, but the whole paradigm shifted

mderazon··on Show HN: Beeper Mini – iMessage client for Android
I love the concept of Beeper or now "Beeper Cloud" and I am trying really hard to use the app but the app is just too sluggish to be usable. I am not sure why, perhaps because it's built on top of the Matrix oss app, not sure.

Eventually, opening WhatsApp/Telegram is super quick and Beeper is too slow

mderazon··on Bitwarden adds support for passkeys
My biggest issue is when having to copy multiple fields from an entry into the webpage and having to use the search (because the entry is for a different domain or just a note or a card) you have to search for the entry again and again because the search key doesn't persist
mderazon··on ChromeOS is Linux with Google’s desktop environment
I meant to say that it "outperforms" less in terms of speed (although it's not bad relative to the price of the laptop) but more in terms of developer experience. Everything just works in Linux and it's fast compared to WSL which I get constant issues.
mderazon··on Launch HN: Tiptap (YC S23) – Toolkit for developing collaborative editors
Does anybody know of a good prose-mirror wrapper for Angular ?
mderazon··on Successful room temperature ambient-pressure magnetic levitation of LK-99
Don't think so. Friction, at least, is still unavoidable
mderazon··on Andrew McCalip demonstrates synthesis of LK99
What does setting up your own Nitter instance give you that the hosted one doesn't? Just additional privacy?

As for Reddit, is there another frontend?

mderazon··on Cloudflare Registrar now supports .dev domains
Is Google domains shutting down ?!
