mda_damico··on Ask HN: Desktop Pet
Nothing. I tried it when they were popular and realized that it's very distracting, pretty similar to a real pet walking around you while you work. :)
mda_damico··on Show HN: NearBye – macOS locks itself when your iPhone leaves the room
Good work! What data does the app use to measure the distance to a device? Received Signal Strength only or Channel Sounding too?

mda_damico··on Old Software Was Fast Because It Had No Choice
Old software is fast because it's built for old hardware and usually it was developed by good-taught engineers.
mda_damico··on Every independent nation should work on three things
There're no independent nations nowadays. Even the US and China are very dependent on trade with other countries. Informational independence is an illusion, only China could be named an mostly informational independent country.

And it's really weird to measure the country's independence by its public "hype" persons or its datacenters count.

mda_damico··on Chrome had the highest idle CPU and RAM usage in a 5-browser benchmark
I use Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on my laptop with Ubuntu (16 GB RAM) and see no major difference in memory eating. But with Chrome and Edge I have support of newest web APIs rather with Firefox and Safari don't. I'd used Firefox as my main browser before but once moved to Edge (Chromium) because some sites I used stopped opening and working in Firefox.

Dev tools are good as in Chrome as well in Firefox I think.

mda_damico··on Voronoi Village
Chrome 149 - "WebGPU is not supported in this browser."
mda_damico··on I Am Rich
"Black Square" of the modern era which we deserve.
mda_damico··on Google Alternative Search Engines in 2026
What about Bing and Yandex which are much more popular than DuckDuckGo and especially other items from this article?
mda_damico··on LeetCode is the best way to learn a new language
LeetCode mostly has algorithmic tasks. Of course it's helpful during learning syntax, working with memory, optimizing performance. However, the standard library and other useful libraries and frameworks take much more time to learn them.
mda_damico··on AI Agents Can't Help with Intent Debt
A hammer doesn't need to know your intent, it just needs to hammer nails well and pull them out well. LLMs at this period of time are only hammers, very complex and expensive but still hammers.
mda_damico··on Ask HN: What do you do with LLM articles?
AI just an instrument. It can't damage brains. However bad written articles can. If you see a bad article, just don't read it and everything will be OK :)
mda_damico··on What to read to become a better writer
Reread yourself after some time and compare your feelings with the best reading you used to read.
mda_damico··on Chrome, Opera and Vivaldi pen open letter to Microsoft saying "enough is enough"
History is cyclic :) Especially nice to see here Google Chrome, which has more than 70% on Statcounter.
mda_damico··on Publishers in UK can opt out of Google AI search results
Strange decision. The AI overview won't disappear but the UK news publishers will disappear from it. People who use a news publisher usually open their websites, not Google. People who open Google to look for news mostly are fulfilled by the AI overview content, if it isn't, they always can check links below the AI overview.
mda_damico··on It Will Never Be the Year of the Linux Desktop
It doesn't mind what Chromebooks have under the hood. They don't make the Year of the Linux Desktop closer rather the another Decade of Chrome browser.
mda_damico··on Please Use AI
Soulfully! AI just a tool. Person constantly uses the tool instead of itself is felt as a robot.
mda_damico··on Where is API tooling lacking?
I used to use Isomnia and it has a local mode. I also heard about Bruno but not tried.
mda_damico··on The Bug that Chromium wont Fix
In my experience, bugs like this (priority - medium, severity - unrated) only fix in case if they don't require a lot of time to fix.
mda_damico··on Show HN: The Front Page – Newspaper-style front page for Hacker News
Perfect! I have to increase the zoom to 200% on my laptop to read article text. However, it looks wonderful and stirs up warm nostalgia in me.
mda_damico··on Ask HN: How to learn how to develop real time applications?
Multiplayer games are a type of application that requires real-time networking. Try reading "Multiplayer Game Programming: Architecting Networked Games" by Josh Glazer and Sanjay Madhav. Another type of programming with essential real-time is microcontrollers. You can dig into this way.
mda_damico··on Show HN: Free Fonts – a collection of 400+ original, open-source typefaces
Thanks for sharing! Downloaded a couple interesting ones. But they only have 148 glyphs. Are there fonts with Unicode support and can the font generator make Unicode fonts?
mda_damico··on [dead]

mda_damico··on Show HN: Remove Background Noise – AI tool for cleaning up speech on videos
Under the hood, the SDK behind Background Noise Remover is built on three baseline models: DTLN, DeepFilterNet, and models from Open Model Zoo - which we’ve retrained and customized for our use case.
