mcdillon··on Re-Designing the classic email client
So have you heard of www.mail-pilot.com?
mcdillon··on Online algorithmic event detection from realtime mobile photos
This is pretty awesome and its a great way to spark off additional analysis, such as triggering precise twitter feed filters for a specific topic.
mcdillon··on Show HN: my Mac app just got fireballed
There was an episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike Rowe was recording the narratives in a hotel room by simply going under the blanket of his bed with the microphone. I'm sure there was additional tweaking production value, but this is good advice!
mcdillon··on Why RubyMotion Is Better Than Objective-C
In addition to your points; I'm not a fan of sensationalist blog posts that start off with whining about how something is hard even though the 'about me' section states how awesome they are at writing code. This seriously just screams hey come read my blog!
mcdillon··on How a computer boots up
That just brought me back to McBryde 226 where I took OS, thanks for the good read!
mcdillon··on Google I/O Sells Out in 30 Seconds
Its definitely not sold out yet (academic tickets are gone though). As someone else mentioned it looks like they are releasing the tickets in batches.

Edit: it is sold out now: https://developers.google.com/events/io/register

mcdillon··on Anyone get Google I/O tickets?
I've hit the 'no available tickets page' twice so far, 10:03 and 10:07est. Are they really already sold out?
mcdillon··on Analysis of the Human Bird Wings
His results seem to suggest that the video wasn't CGI'ed, correct?
mcdillon··on Analysis of the Human Bird Wings
His take off speed and the angle of attack for his wings looks suspect. As much as I want this to be real it looks like he is in a stall the moment his feet lift off the ground. I am looking at this from a traditional fixed wing aircraft view though so my views could be flawed.
mcdillon··on I'm burning out and I can't tell anyone
Damn it edw519, lets drink already!

Seriously though, that is the mindset you have to take (there are exceptions) otherwise you'll gradually start to resent everything you've worked for.

mcdillon··on GitHub Impervious to Super Missiles
Designed bugs are still bugs.
mcdillon··on I’m calling it: Ubuntu is finally ready for the world.
I have a similar experience where my roommate's computer (windows)just became a bloated mess and he asked me how he could try something new. Aside from getting iTunes to run on his new Ubuntu install it was a smooth and easy transition. He ended up using it for about a year and managed to solve a majority of his own problems from the Ubuntu forums.
mcdillon··on I’m calling it: Ubuntu is finally ready for the world.
Good points there, I completely forgot about Lexmark printers because the last one I bought wouldn't work on Mac OS X or Linux and I returned it; haven't bought Lexmark again. That's not to say that people shouldn't buy them, just explaining my view.
mcdillon··on Twitter sells multi-billion tweet archive
The people who are shocked and offended don't understand that they aren't the user of these "free" social networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc). They / we are in fact the product and once it's realized that your data is being sold to others than you will change the way you interact with the networks.
mcdillon··on Visualizing Reddit with my graph drawing library
Very nice work!
mcdillon··on RIAA Insists That, Really, The Music Industry Is Collapsing
More on shitty services...

I have an hbo account through verizon fios, and typically watch shows through hbo go. Its hbo's streaming answer to being able to view the content you already pay for. The service is terrible, it constantly stops buffering and looses its place in the show / movie and you have to restart the player constantly. This can't be due to my connection because speed tests report everything as fine and dandy.

mcdillon··on How Target Figured Out A Teen Girl Was Pregnant Before Her Father Did
Thanks for the link; the Forbes article (while factually interesting) has some seriously distracting prose in it. I don't understand the write-a-news-article-off-the-cuff mentality at all.
mcdillon··on Roger Boisjoly dies at 73; engineer tried to halt Challenger launch
"When he was pressed by NASA the night before the liftoff to sign a written recommendation approving the launch, he refused, and later argued late into the night for a launch cancellation. When McDonald later disclosed the secret debate to accident investigators, he was isolated and his career destroyed."

This is quite simply astonishing; everything I have ever learned in my engineering classes said to do what McDonald did and look what happened to him.
