I am currently a contract developer, I have 20+ years full stack development experience. (Desktop, web, mobile) I'm looking for a remote opportunity, either a new contract, or a permanent role.

mbuchanan··on Ask HN: Who is seeking a cofounder?
FundRider. I need a sales/marketing cofounder.

A fundraising tool for great causes. Find someone from your community(church, school, other) 1) Rideshare your commute 2) Rider gas money goes to a charity (easily can get to $1000-$2000 a year) 3. Save the planet.

mbuchanan··on Show HN: Fundraise by Carpooling
I am looking for a Business Cofounder! There are currently some issues with signup. Really looking for feedback on the concept.

Fundrider is a fundraising app(and fellowship app with members of a community[church, charity, school]). It not marketed as a carpooling app. Non-profits would use it to put together an event(Ride for Life) and/or have recurring donations by continuing fundrider.

Here's the math. 20mpg car uses 1 gal to get to work, thats $4. times 10 commutes a week thats $40. Times 50 weeks thats $2000 in gas that a fundrider can donate to a great cause. If their company does matching, they can give $4000 in a year to Dog Rescue without it costing then anything. It's green, it's changes the carpool game, and gives money to charity not oil companies..

Or... you find players that are obsessive 1st person shooter players, you cross reference their mental health history and access to guns. That pops up Adam Lanza in Newtown. You engage him and coerce him. hmm..
mbuchanan··on Ask HN: Please review my new website
Great looking site.. And that's a really good idea to contain it to a single sentence.
mbuchanan··on Ask HN: feedback on my startup?
It looks good and I bet it's very useful... but i don't understand it either.
mbuchanan··on Website of the future: what does it look like?
I've got some innovation going at http://www.nestedguis.com. (update: previous link was wrong)

Louis Gray blogged about it.. http://www.louisgray.com/live/2008/09/will-future-informatio...

mbuchanan··on So I started to twitter, who should I follow?
I just started a couple of days ago too, I picked about 50 people to follow. You can look at my follow list. http://twitter.com/michaelbuchanan
mbuchanan··on Ask HN: Feedback and CoFounder - privatetransit.org
Thanks... No it isn't working yet. I'll clean those bugs up and post again when I ask for private beta folks.

Good points about the marketing and tour. I really want it to convey this is the solution to outrageous gas prices, global warming, dependence on foreign oil. It's also the right time with wireless laptops and mobile phones to give up driving. and that these web technologies are the right product.

What do you think of the idea?

mbuchanan··on The Future of the Desktop
I couldn't agree more with this post... in fact I think it almost exactly describes Microspaces. http://www.nestedguis.com
mbuchanan··on 10 Futuristic User Interfaces
Here is another new concept.... http://www.nestedguis.com. Why have one UI when you can have lots? (there are some good videos there)
mbuchanan··on So you launched your startup here first (last week, month...). Now how is it doing?
I previewed Microspaces 'Nested GUI' technology on HN (http://www.nestedguis.com)... and based on the feedback made a few changes. I haven't launched the sites I've built on top of it yet. but very soon.
mbuchanan··on YouOS (winter 07) shutting down?
I would agree in some cases. I only said you don't use click to navigate because I didn't understand what your issue was. You can click out anywhere... On the title, the nav bar, or the web links. That will open in a new tab. Would that address the speed/clicking usability.?

btw, sorry to hijack this thread.

mbuchanan··on YouOS (winter 07) shutting down?
Thanks. I am tweaking the experience as to not have the UI in the way. I see some of that as well.

Where is the slowness you have? The pics loading, or the hover reacting? I don't have any.. except when previewing the hovered sites and waiting for them to load.

the feedback is really appreciated.

mbuchanan··on YouOS (winter 07) shutting down?
It's uses hover and zoom to navigate. not clicking. Did you watch one of the videos?
mbuchanan··on YouOS (winter 07) shutting down?
I agree... take a look at this... especially the videos(http://www.nestedguis.com)
mbuchanan··on Ask HN: Feedback on our technology - 'nested guis'
Thanks. I'm hoping people are receptive to the concept... Trying to blend it with the way you surf now. I think you'll see microspaces built that will be real helpful for novice to advanced.
mbuchanan··on Ask HN: Feedback on our technology - 'nested guis'
Thanks. hmm. I've tested in IE7 and Firefox and I haven't seen that. This is exactly the stuff I need to know. Please sign up for the private beta so maybe you could try as I improve it.
mbuchanan··on Microspaces (aka Nested GUIs)
It takes a few minutes to get used to... You still can click to open any portion in a new window so you're not relying on hovering.

I don't understand the codebase question?

Also, The UI is evolving.so please join the private beta. We really want feedback.

mbuchanan··on Microsoft researchers make me cry
Here's a good post. http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/brierdudley/2008/02/is...

I also bet it's a mix between seadragon and photsynth, that lets you scroll thru images going back and forth in time.

mbuchanan··on Y Not: Silicon Valley
Great job! I hope there's enough hungry teams that this gains momentum. I bet a small site like techstarsblog.com or startupweekend.com would keep the community active.
mbuchanan··on Y Not - YC rejects of the world, unite!
I think this is a great idea! in SV, I bet you easily could find more speakers and mentors than you need, and they could generate a buzz to get the VC community out for a demo day.
