mbloom1915··on Banks scramble to fix old systems as IT 'cowboys' ride into sunset
It's certainly not just banks, very much utilities too. putting off investments in core IT capabilities has become the norm and when you've dug a hole this deep, might as well keep on digging!!
mbloom1915··on Navigant Research Leaderboard Report: Automated Driving
if we're talking about level 1 autonomy, then I guess you could say every car is their product? or for that matter, every care of every manufacturer is autonomous since it has a backup camera and lane correction =/
mbloom1915··on Navigant Research Leaderboard Report: Automated Driving
the report just seems like a money grab and not necc. making a good case for any company or putting a tight criteria around the output
mbloom1915··on Navigant Research Leaderboard Report: Automated Driving
Anyone have more insight into how Uber is competing here?? They're lidar tech is currently tied up in a $2B lawsuit w/ Waymo and it looks like there are a few smoking guns. Perhaps the report is trying to make a consultant-like case but bottom line is there aren't a lot of autonomous vehicle cos out there today and Ford/GM can make noise (if they want to) since they have mature manufacturing capabilities

mbloom1915··on How automakers can drive electrified vehicle sales and profitability
solve the problem of making EVs useful for city livers and then we can start to talk about real adoption - suburbia has luxury of charging EVs overnight when affordable but people living in apartments/condos/etc and parking on the street every night do not have accessible EV charging infrastructure

mbloom1915··on Google says it will run entirely on renewable energy in 2017
This article is far more accurate and helpful: https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/google-will-ach...
mbloom1915··on Google says it will run entirely on renewable energy in 2017
the headline is quite misleading when you consider most google data centers still getting power from dirty sources - the 40% reduction in data center cost is impressive though (whoo AI!)
mbloom1915··on Google says it will run entirely on renewable energy in 2017
Note Google in some cases does sell electricity generated from their wind/solar investments to the locals and new FERC order allows anyone who has DG to sell into wholesale markets. Sometimes their investment is near a data center so it hits the same local feeder, othertimes they say 'we can't do DG near the data center, so lets do it somewhere else that offsets the data center demand'. This is where the renewable energy credits come in and make the long term strategy worthwhile
mbloom1915··on Google says it will run entirely on renewable energy in 2017
this has much more to do with the locked in rate utilities/the state demands when Distributed Generation (like wind and solar) are feeding into the grid. 'wind energy prices' is vague - not sure if it is getting at the relatively low fluctuating cost of standing up a turbine, OR the flat rate wind suppliers are paid for generation (like google)
mbloom1915··on ESPN Loses 621,000 Subscribers; Worst Month in Company History
I'd agree - but right tech will pave way for right biz model in this case
mbloom1915··on ESPN Loses 621,000 Subscribers; Worst Month in Company History
The WORST part of all of this is how Disney owns a great video streaming company who built our a killer product for the MLB, and they can't apply it to the ESPN ecosystem, whose video player is TRASH.
mbloom1915··on ESPN Loses 621,000 Subscribers; Worst Month in Company History
ESPN overpayed for rights fees years ago not expecting viewership to decline at all - nevermind so rapidly. I'm sure even at those high prices they make a boatload off ad revenue but clearly their poor content and lack of focus on a live internet outlet for games is killing them. Also, all their good employees left!! FoxSports has most of them..
mbloom1915··on ESPN Loses 621,000 Subscribers; Worst Month in Company History
I think you nailed it here - cord cutting is part of it (I've done it myself) but ESPN is failing to deliver internet content effectively. The 'watchespn' site/app is clunky, slow, and sometimes takes multiple provider logins to work. When you see how simple it is to watch the NFL on Twitter vs. the 5 step broke process of ESPN online - the choice is clear. It's too bad they won't upgrade basic site functions since they cover the most sports globally, including games with expected low viewership...YouTube has been an easier outlet for some to broadcast live.
mbloom1915··on Drug Agents Use Vast Phone Trove, Eclipsing N.S.A.’s (2013)

mbloom1915··on Twitter may receive formal bid, suitors said to include Salesforce and Google
Why can't youtube live replicate this streaming service and give even more split ad revenue back to NFL, CBS, etc.??
mbloom1915··on Twitter may receive formal bid, suitors said to include Salesforce and Google
Zuck offered Twitter a lot back in the day, Twitter leadership at time severely disagreed w/ Mark's vision of the merge. Particularly how he wanted to use Twitter to complement FB's goal of logging personal matters and in some cases over-stepping ethical and privacy boundaries. I commend twitter for not giving in at that time
