max23_··on Tell HN: Thank You Dang
Thank you, dang!
max23_··on Teacher's low-tech laptop hack to display handwritten notes for online class
I have the same thought when I see the pencil tip is pointing upward instead of the other end.

Probably try to lower it down enough to fit one CD.

max23_··on Thank You MDN
Same, "MDN" is always part of my web dev search query.
max23_··on Drive through cities in the browser while listening to local radio stations
This is really brilliant! Reminds me of my time traveling in those cities.
max23_··on It's 2020 and I'm using image maps
On a side note, LINE Messaging API support sending image map message[0] where you can have multiple tappable areas.

max23_··on Show HN: Caddy 2
Found out about Caddy 1 when I was trying to enable https using Let's Encrypt cert years ago, it was easy to setup and it just work.

Well done on Caddy 2 and thank you!

max23_··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?
I have been looking for a Windows alike snapping tool for Mac. Just tried Rectangle and it works just fine, thank you!
max23_··on Show HN: A site to keep track of critters you can catch in Animal Crossing
Nice work!

I like how it is first sorted by fish/bug that will be gone next month.

max23_··on Show HN: A searchable list of self-hosted software with screenshots
Probably HN hug of death.
max23_··on Show HN: Broker-less simulation and mocking for Kafka
Do check out author's other project, Kafdrop[0], a web UI for Kafka.

max23_··on React Table is a “headless” UI library
Whenever I need a table with pagination and export, jQuery DataTables is my go-to tool and it does the job well.
max23_··on WARP is here
Same, just receive the notification about the 10GB.
max23_··on Show HN: I created Postwoman, an online, open-source API request builder
I have been using Insomnia since it was shown in HN. One of my recent favorite features is request chaining introduced in v6.4.2.
max23_··on Ask HN: What are you learning in 2019?
I am currently learning these too.
max23_··on VMware Octant web-based platform to better understand Kubernetes clusters
I like the "Resource Viewer" feature which is easy to visualize the resources. Too bad that it is read-only which is fine if you are trying to make changes.
max23_··on The GitHub registry public beta is live
I signed this up when they first announced it but I still don't get the invite to access it. I am not sure how they choose who will have early access to it.
max23_··on I Miss Microsoft Encarta
It was one of the first software I had when I got my first computer. To me it was the internet and I spent hours reading all the entries and interacting with the audio and video that come with it.
max23_··on The Durian King
> “The Musang King is my favorite,” said Teh Bin Tean, a Singaporean researcher who has studied the durian genome. “Don’t try it first because the rest is all downhill.”

I wouldn't say the rest would be all downhill, there are many types of durian and each has its own unique taste (I personally like the sweet & bitter one).

max23_··on Building a Stateless API Proxy
I am having the same thought too after reading through it. Good job on the step by step explanation together with the illustrations.
max23_··on Ask HN: Was GitHub Hacked or Me?
Yes, I got my GitHub page 'hijacked' in a similar way some time ago when I switched the repo to private (when GitHub announced free private repos for regular account).

Quick response from GitHub after raising a report and got my CNAME back after going through the domain ownership verification with them.

max23_··on Show HN: Create Chart Images from a URL
I never thought of using any service to generate a chart and this looks like it may come in handy in the future for me.

Glad that it is open source so people can self host it.

max23_··on HeidiSQL – GUI client for MariaDB, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
I have been using this ever since SSMS (when it was built with WinForm IIRC) was a pain to use in my old job and my OS was Windows XP.

Plus, I can update single column field from the query result by double clicking it.

max23_··on How to teach Git
Agree, I think this is sort of like a very simple introductory on what git is about and to me it does the job.
max23_··on DigitalOcean launches its container service
Always come back to DO for the concisely written tutorials. Thumbs up for the good work.
max23_··on Ask HN: Books you read in 2018?
I don't read that much in 2018 but below are the two interesting pick ups for me.

1. Bad Blood - John Carreyrou

2. Flash Boys - Michael Lewis

max23_··on How Does setState Know What to Do?
Never knew he started a blog until recently when someone posted his blog post on how React tell a class from a function.

Good stuff if you want to know how React work internally.

max23_··on Spectrum is joining GitHub
It is my first time knowing Spectrum and will definitely look into the code base for idea/solution when working in React.

Kudos and appreciate the team for open sourcing it too!

max23_··on Ask HN: What's your favorite elegant/beautiful algorithm?
Second to this.

Totally blew my mind back then when I was trying to understand how asymmetrical cryptography works.

max23_··on Every Byte of a TLS Connection Explained and Reproduced
Good work on the illustration.

Using Diffie-Hellman to generate a shared key with each party's private key and the other party's public key is the part that amazed me most when I was trying to understand the handshake back then.

max23_··on The Hacker News Habit
I too have the same habit of browsing HN on a daily basis. Normally I browse through the list of articles that I might be interested in and add them as favorite so I can revisit them later.

Anyway, good job on coming up with a solution to fix the addiction.
