mauzybwy··on U.S. science is in chaos
They do choose it though. Infra policies and budget allocations don’t just grow on trees. Every decision that got us here has been “chosen by Americans”.

LA could be fixed incrementally by improving frequency, signal priority, and dedicated lanes for buses. Then go from there, but technically there’s enough right of way to build out the rail network by sacrificing the monstrous car network.

The reality is that there will be short-term inconvenience for long-term gain, and it will only get worse the deeper we dig our heels in. And if there’s one thing that Americans hate: it’s short-term inconvenience.

mauzybwy··on AI should elevate your thinking, not replace it
Probably not your point but ultimately the Luddites were acting as a “Verein von Egoisten”, no?

> Do you think it is reasonable to expect a person with an arts degree to know this?

There are plenty of people with arts degrees who know this, and PLENTY of dogshit engineers with CS degrees who don’t

Couldn’t you expire the reflog entry and prune the db to remove it entirely?
mauzybwy··on Last gasps of the rent seeking class?
If my city kneecaps bus and metro service bc Waymo swindles them into cutting the transit budget I swear I’m gonna riot. America is almost too far gone as it is, but the ubiquity of self-driving cars will almost certainly cement in all the poor decisions we’ve made
mauzybwy··on Why craft-lovers are losing their craft
There’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem here bc you’re applying asking how to apply cooperative organization theory to a capitalist organization. Presumably in a largely cooperative economy, the cleaner would be a worker-owner of a cleaning organization that provides cleaning labor to the manufacturing organization in question.
mauzybwy··on “This is not the computer for you”
Man I got a computer engineering degree in 2015 with a $200 Chromebook chrooted into Debian. And I worked professionally for years on an 8gb MacBook Air. The Neo is definitely something younger me would be interested in.
