maury91··on Plant-based meat is turning out to be a flop
I translated "cotoletta" into "Schnitzel" to give an immediate idea of the dish to the reader ( because Schnitzel is more famous ), but in Italian cotoletta can be both with chicken or pork or beef, the recipe is the same with every meat ( beat the meat, bread it, shallow fry it )
maury91··on Plant-based meat is turning out to be a flop
Interesting, we say "If my grandma had wheels she would've been a wheelbarrow!" ( "Se mia nonna aveva le ruote sarebbe una carriola" ). And there's also the version with grandad, but it's better you look that one on Google "Se mio nonno aveva..."
maury91··on Plant-based meat is turning out to be a flop
Yes, that is true, if your body is healthy the two type of cholesterol ( LDL and HDL ) contained in foods should balance each other and you will not have cholesterol problems. Some people can have medical conditions and can eat maximum ~3 eggs/week. I can't know if OP is one of those people, this is why I suggested a way to avoid cholesterol rich ingredients.

Edit: replaced "have cholesterol rich ingredients" with "avoid ..."

maury91··on Plant-based meat is turning out to be a flop
Chicken is not red meat, and also it's an healthy meat ( not sure if in USA chickens are pumped with weird stuff that makes them unhealthy ), you can make a light version of schnitzel by using chicken breast ( mostly protein, low fat ), some healthy oil like EVO oil to shallow fry it, and you should be good ( also if you are worried about cholesterol you can avoid eggs and use other ingredients like oil to make the breadcrumbs/panko/flour/semola stick to the meat )

PS: I'm not a doctor, to my knowledge this is a healthy dish but if you have any health issue I recommend first talking with someone with a specialisation to know how much is healthy and much you can eat of it

maury91··on Plant-based meat is turning out to be a flop
I'm not a fan of plant-based meat, this is most likely because of my culture ( I'm Sardinian ), we do have many meat based dishes and many plant based dishes, and honestly I don't see the need to cook the meat based ones with processed food that tries to replicate the taste and consistency of meat.

I believe that if you don't want to eat meat there's a world of recipes that do not involve meat and are made to elevate the delicate taste of veggies. I've grow up with eating whole foods, we cook everything from the base ingredients, sometimes we even make those base ingredients ( for example we have sheeps and cows and we make milk, and out of milk we make cheese ), personally for me pre-packaged food appears as the sub-optimal choice

maury91··on New video of Tesla crash demonstrates the problem of semi-automated driving
Honestly it feels like a car is the perfect murder weapon, if you want to kill someone you can ran over that person, especially if that person is on a bike, and you will get a reduced sentence compared to if you did that with what is normally considered a weapon ( knife, gun, ... )

I think if you endanger someone’s life with anything, be it a car, motorcycle, knife, gun, hands; you should always get the same sentence

maury91··on New video of Tesla crash demonstrates the problem of semi-automated driving
I'm trying to reason "why the Tesla did stop?", in the second video on TheIntercept website, I can notice a left exit before the point where the Tesla stopped. Something I noticed with Google maps ( I don't have a Tesla, and maybe the navigation system of the Tesla is similar ), is that sometimes thinks tunnels can access the road above them ( in a tunnel near my home Google maps always tells me "turn right" in the middle of the tunnel without understanding that I need to get out of the tunnel first and take the ramp ). With this information I think the navigation system of the Tesla could have been similarly stupid and tried to turn left on a ghost road just to discover there's no road and so decided to stop.

This is just a possible reason, and I'm definitely not suggesting that this is what did happen.

This is Google maps saying "go right" in the middle of a tunnel: https://goo.gl/maps/G89cyQT2APUQuu6g6 ( the two roundabouts are connected by a tunnel )

PS: If you use street view you will see how it was 3 years ago, before the construction of the tunnel

maury91··on Study finds that buttons in cars are safer and quicker to use than touchscreens
"Study finds out that water is wet"

Jokes aside, I always found the touchscreen to be annoying to use in specific conditions:

1. I have to watch the touchscreen to find the button, with physical button I can just feel where the button is while watching the road

2. On bumpy roads touchscreen is almost unusable, it is so hard to press on the right point that I'm forced to use voice commands

maury91··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
I'm passionate about running. I started with it as a way to lose fat. In conjunction with diet, it worked flawlessly, and I continued to be passionate about it. Around a year and a half ago, I wanted to improve further, so I found a running coach and got better enough to compete in running events. The past Sunday, I competed in my first full marathon in Athens, placing in the top 3%
maury91··on Ask HN: How influential can physical appearance be in professional environments?
I'm not a big eater of Casu Martzu, so I don't know if getting is hard, but my parents usually ship me some homemade cheese without problems, I believe they could ship also Casu Martzu without problems ( I don't think customs check what type of cheese is being shipped )
maury91··on Ask HN: How influential can physical appearance be in professional environments?
Kind of the classic story, my wife is Lithuanian. We first tried living in Sardinia but the job market in Sardinia is terrible, so we moved to her country so she could even more chances, and because I'm an Engineer for me finding work is easy in every country.

Here in Lithuania Engineers are paid very well and are in high demand. For "very well" I mean compared to the average salary in the country, obviously you will get less money compared to UK or Germany. Cost of life is way cheaper than UK or Italy, both food and rent/mortgage is less than the other two countries

maury91··on Ask HN: How influential can physical appearance be in professional environments?
I'm sorry it wasn't understandable, but I was sarcastic, I'm doing great even if I'm the shortest
maury91··on Ask HN: How influential can physical appearance be in professional environments?
Then I'm very screwed, I'm a Sardinian in Lithuania

( Sardinians are the shortest population in Europe, and Lithuanians one of the tallest )

maury91··on Ask HN: How do you and your spouse handle big income differences?
Maybe it's because the sum of my salary and the one of my wife is lower than the salary of OP 12 years ago. But we don't really care how to split the money, because usually there's none left after paying mortgage, bills and groceries.

We do have a big disparity in money, and if we split the mortgage 50/50 she would not have enough money to pay her share, so we split based on what each of us can pay: I pay the mortgage and the groceries, and she pays the bills

maury91··on Tell HN: Unpaid home assignments are not ok
I had a similar experience, did go through:

- initial interview with HR

- technical interview with devs

- home assignment ( you can find it on my GitHub with the name 2048 )

- discussion of the assignment with the same devs of the technical

After every step they said they were very impressed, I did reach the step where they were scheduling the final interview with the CTO then they weren't able to schedule it and they disappeared for months with the excuse of hiring freeze. Apparently they hired someone else and they decided to put me on hold indefinitely

maury91··on Ask HN: Career Advice
This is exactly what scares me, the company I'm now is not bad on paper, work/life balance is good, various colleagues are friendly, it's not a bad place to work... I believe I can find other companies with the same good key metrics, the problem is that I have no way to know if is a company where I can succeed and move to the position I aim to. In theory the company where I work now had everything to make me believe I could move to Lead, it feels like my unluckiness started when I moved to the project that looked promising, and my main error was not understanding that the rest of the developers don't like change ( I will explain this better, when the team was being created it looked like everyone wanted to join it, a new project, exciting challenges, non-repetitive work. The reality was the opposite, only few people joined just to promptly leave, and I believe it is because developers like to work on repetitive task: create the n-th new page, create new components, refactor something too look more new, etc... they don't really like the uncertainty of having to research every sprint how to complete their tasks )
maury91··on Ask HN: Career Advice
The project is already a success, now we are in the maintenance and improve part.

We have now 5 microfrontends released to production

We successfully split the old monolith into 3 microfrontends, and meanwhile 3 more teams have been created and each of them is working on a new microfrontend, two of those have already been lunched into production ( one of these teams was created and started working while the work from my team was almost stable ( for stable I mean that the contracts between the various pieces is unlikely to change, not that the app is full of bugs ))

maury91··on Ask HN: Career Advice
Honestly, both of them, I feel ready to take on more responsibilities and extend further my impact on the work that is being done by helping other developers do a better job. I did believe that taking a project that "shakes the foundations" of almost every team in the company could have been a good proof of that. I do agree obtaining the skills and experience is extremely hard, especially on Covid times were you see your teammates once every company party ( we are doing hybrid work, you can go to the office when and if you want, I go often, my teammates of the new team never )
maury91··on Ask HN: Career Advice
My team is the only one with too many managers, other teams are more balanced with usually one manager and 6±1 developers
maury91··on Ask HN: Career Advice
I do agree was excessive, and even now that we are only two developers still feels a little bit overkill, ceremonies like daily end up being very fast, and ceremonies like retro feel very forced ( it gets very hard to say what went well and what wend bad when nothing really happens... )

maury91··on Blue Zones, where people reach age 100 at 10 times greater rates
McDonalds in Cagliari closed recently ( I'm talking about the most popular one, the one next to the train and bus stations )
maury91··on Blue Zones, where people reach age 100 at 10 times greater rates
I never tried any American meat, but I grew up in Sardinian and worked in UK and Lithuania. Quality of meat in Sardinia is vastly superior to the UK one but also more expensive, also we in Sardinia is almost impossible to find dry aged meat, I didn't knew aged meat existed until I did go out of the island ( we have Salami etc..., I'm talking about an aged steak ).
maury91··on Blue Zones, where people reach age 100 at 10 times greater rates
I'm Sardinian and I can confirm we are the opposite of vegetarian, big majority of typical Sardinian dishes are meat based, the most famous of them being "Porceddu" that is simply slow cooked on open fire baby big.

In the mountain areas is typical to eat sheep and on the costal area is typical to eat fish

maury91··on A fake job offer took down Axie Infinity
I tend to separate work and life affairs, and using the work computer to talk to recruiters sounds bad to me, it is something I feel more ethical to do on my personal computer. This would have easily prevented the hacking because only the personal computer would have got hacked
maury91··on Why I’m Cryptophobic
People being paid by the hour is just a result of simplifying work, in the very past everyone was a merchant and they sold their goods/services.

The same old behaviour should be applied to machines, it doesn't matter how much resource a machine takes to do the job, what is important is the output. The pay should not be X*Watts, but X agreed in advance for training that specific neural network, this type of market incentives evolution, where the machines that can do the same job with lower resources have the lower hand

maury91··on List of Tech company layoffs in Europe
You take those scooters for 2 reasons:

1. For fun 2. To go somewhere far and fast ( cause you are in a hurry )

maury91··on List of Tech company layoffs in Europe
That is only partially true, at least here in Europe, I notice many riders and drivers working for multiple companies at the same time. So these company they do share load. You can notice this easily when you take an Uber and you put your trolley in the cargo and notice that there are a Bolt and an Uber eats thermal box
maury91··on Remotewide – Find remote jobs with location independent pay
Not all the jobs are fully location independent, for example the ones with "HelpScout" when you read the section "About the role" near the end is written:

> At this time, we are only able to hire in the following: United States, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, United Kingdom.

I believe this information should be presented near the top so as a consumer of the product I can skip reading a long description just to know that I cannot apply

maury91··on Dozens of Russian troops ‘fall ill with radiation poisoning’ at Chernobyl
Article also says:

> one worker on duty when the Russians seized control of the area said the convoy had kicked up clouds of radioactive dust while driving through the highly toxic ‘Red Forest’

From what I know when you go with a tour guide in Chernobyl they don't drive through the 'Red Forest', and they say to not pickup anything and bring your own food and water. The problem with driving in the 'Red Forest' is that the movement of vehicles creates clouds of dust, that go on the vehicle itself and especially on the vehicle behind, and I believe that inhaling radioactive dust is terrible for your health
