Stonebraker recently gave a talk at my school on where he thinks databases are headed in the future[0]. Definitely worth a watch.

I know a few people that work/have worked there, and all say it is a fun place to work. However, the interns I know were severely underpaid. Not sure about full-time.

They gave a talk at my school. One of their head engineers knew his stuff, but it seemed the guy on the political side of things didn't "get it." They definitely understood they were behind, but said they had the same amount of data as the DNC, just they weren't using it.

Having grown up in Michigan, I can attest to this. It has made me want to abandon this state so heavily built around the automobile. Even downtown Detroit has wide city streets and few walkable areas. Ann Arbor, on the other hand, is pedestrian friendly, and one can manage without a car.

I'd love to see you expand more on alternative income sources. Are you referencing freelancing jobs that pay American (or equivalent) wages?

I lived in Shanghai for a period and would love to move back there, but I'm worried about salary.

If I have the chance to work with talented industry veterans, I'd absolutely love to do a tour of duty after I graduate.

Another great read, just like part 1.

Excellent read. Blazer looks great. Having all of that data available to more than just the engineers really allows more data-driven decisions. When combined with the insight of someone on the local level, I'm sure it leads to great results.

As a young software developer interested in what happens on the business side of things, this was a fantastic read. Thanks Patrick.

I'm so excited for this. I know both the people working on the team from the University of Michigan, and both are extremely smart people passionate about web encryption.

I go to the University of Michigan, and there is a huge amount of fragmentation in IT services. APIs are out there, but it's tough to know where to go. A group I'm a part of is going to approach the right people to hopefully fix this.

I'm curious what method they use for identifying the buyers as Chinese.

The SDKs are exciting, but being an ATT exclusive really limits the ecosystem.

Awesome list of resources! I'm currently working on a text-based Twilio app that simplifies updates on how their Senator/Representative votes on major legislation. Further down the line I'd like to tie in direct communication with Senators/Reps where they give a statement on why they voted the way they did, updates on when they're in their local offices, etc.

I did a write-up yesterday about why Square Wallet failed. I listed the receipt not living up to its full potential as one of the reasons. Their receipts should be a source of interaction between the merchant and customer. Good to see this announced today.

Any cool hack ideas to work on this weekend?

The fact that it's in The Big House should count as a +300 people.

I can't wait. This is going to be huge.
